Happy Thanksgiving From DLF!

Ryan McDowell

Happy Thanksgiving! Here at Dynasty League Football, we all have a lot to be thankful for this year, both as a group and individually. Like all of you, we are most thankful for our faith, family, friends, and all other positive things in our lives. But we’re also really thankful for football and all that goes along with the game we love, dynasty fantasy football. And of course, you. Thank you for reading, commenting, using our tools, rankings, etc, and your support of DLF.

This year, I reached out to the team here at DLF to ask them, when it comes to dynasty fantasy football, what are you most thankful for this year?

Enjoy.

Adam Tzikas: I’m most thankful for the league mates that have turned into great friends. After battling it out year after year, an excellent group has become some of my best friends. We have our shared love of football, league competitiveness, and now our commonalities around families as time has passed. Truly there is nothing I am more thankful for.

Mike Faiella: I am most thankful for trading and trade negotiations. The leagues I enjoy most have unique settings that encourage movement, but dynasty itself is more active than redraft just by nature.

This is nothing more enjoyable for me than discussing football with people and trade negotiations can be the most exciting part of that. Whether I am going for it all, rebuilding, or just retooling, trading is the best part!

Michael Moore : I’m thankful for the mountains of data and information that is put together. Using sites, including this one, makes it fun for me to draft, set lineups, etc.

Cody Mortensen: What am I most thankful for in Dynasty FF? It really is how supportive the community is. For years, I was lurking every dynasty site out there for content and somehow would always run out of things to read. Then I started thinking, “I love this and I spend so much time on it. I should do something” because I was sure there were other people like me who wanted more. However, I wanted to do something a little different from what was already out there. It took me a few years to figure out what that was (and get the motivation to put pen to paper). But right before the 2023 season, GAAP (Good at Analyzing Players) was born. The concept of applying my professional life (accounting) with a hobby seemed unique enough and something I thought at least other accountants would enjoy. In the beginning, I was just posting to Reddit and sharing. However, I quickly learned that people really enjoyed the accounting & finance themes and, after only four memos, I was invited to join the DLF team and become a “published author“. The validation and support that the community (and DLF) has given me is truly incredible and I do not take it for granted. Plus, I now have an excuse to just sit on the couch all day on Sundays because “I’m working”. On top of that, I’ve gotten to chat with some of the people I had listened to for years on different podcasts and a few even follow me on Twitter/X, which was a surreal moment.

Bonus: I’m also really thankful that my Justin Fields and DJ Moore stack is back. I have 100% ownership and I really missed that across my leagues. Oh, and Jordan Addison. Him too.

Richard Cooling: I’m most thankful for this incredible community.

I first dove into the world of dynasty four years ago at the start of Covid lockdowns when I was looking for something to do in the evenings. Since then I’ve gone on to join huge volumes of leagues and make some amazing friends. I’ve joined DLF as a contributor and become part of the amazing community within. I’ve been part of numerous charity leagues raising incredible amounts for charities across the globe. I’ve also been able to be a part of the UKFFC meeting many of the incredible people within this community in the flesh.

The whole community has been more welcoming and supportive than I could ever have imagined and I’ve made numerous friends for life!

Levi Chappell: Fantasy football has brought me a lot of great things over the years… but nothing greater than the connection with my dad and brother. I have been lucky enough to play fantasy football with my dad and brother for close to 20 years now. What started as redraft league, then morphed into keeper leagues, which are now the die-hard dynasty and C2C leagues we enjoy now.

My dad, brother, and I get together with our families almost every Sunday to watch football, cheer on our teams (GO LIONS!), yell and complain about our fantasy players, and go through the highs and lows of winning and losing matchups. It’s easy to take things for granted, but I am beyond thankful for those times that we have had over the last 20 years. I guess I have fantasy football to thank as a big reason for that. Thanks FF for giving us a reason to get together and cheer.

I love you Dad and Jeremy!

(now please lose just enough for me to make the playoffs)

Kevin White: FAAB – I’m most thankful to FAAB (Free Agent Acquisition Budget). I find it hugely beneficial to be in the running for any waiver pickup in any given dynasty week. The traditional waivers punish the most engaged fantasy player. Unearthing a FAAB diamond can be a massive edge in dynasty for many years to come.

Weekly game vs median – I’m most thankful for the weekly game vs the median. Any rule or league setting which reduces luck and amplifies skill is a positive one. It softens the blow of losing whilst the second-highest scorer on the week and rightly punishes the extreme luck at the other end of the scale.

Mike Havens: The other owners and friendships made along the way. Any form of fantasy football impossible without the willingness of others to do the same.

Tim Riordan: This year, I’m most thankful for the Chuck Dynasty League. Back in 2017, I was sick of hearing so much about how great dynasty leagues are, but not being invited to join one. I finally decided to skip the whole invite thing and start one on my own. I gathered a group of 11 other guys to join me, mostly coworkers at SiriusXM, mixed in with some close friends and family. We were all very new to dynasty fantasy football, so we were all starting off on the same foot. It was a superflex startup, and only one QB was drafted in the first round! We were learning as we went. We are in year seven now, and I’m proud to say there has been no turnover. While people have moved, changed careers, and even become dynasty analysts themselves, we’ve all stuck together through this league. I’m proud to say I finally won the league in 2019, but I have to shout out Brian Martin, who has been a dominant force in this league since year one! It’s by far my favorite league, and the reason that I’m writing for DLF now! To the members of the Chuck Dynasty League, I’m so thankful for you!

Jaron Foster: I will always be thankful for great league mates. Those who are active, engage in trade talks, understand differences in valuation and opinion, and are generally fun to be in leagues with.

Wyatt Bertolone: I’m incredibly thankful for the community as a whole. Dynasty fantasy football helped me meet people who I now consider some of my best friends and expect to be in my life for a very long time. I never thought this game could have such an impact on my life. It’s corny but it’s true.

Tyler Justin Karp: This is going to sound really, really corny, but I’m most thankful for DLF for giving me a shot as a content creator in February 2021. I don’t think I’d still be making fantasy football content if that hadn’t happened. So yeah, the corniest answer possible, but that’s what I’m going with.

Eric Hardter: At the risk of sounding trite, can I just be thankful for dynasty fantasy football in general? This hobby of ours has enabled me to better stay in touch with colleagues of years past, from schools I no longer attend and jobs I’ve left. My passion for it caused me to submit a writing sample to DLF over a decade ago, which subsequently enabled me to meet another great group of folks here and also engage directly with industry stakeholders. As for dynasty football itself, it has turned into one of my biggest hobbies, a true, yearlong endeavor with a minimum of 14 weeks of direct game activity, and the rest of the time spent consuming content, strategizing, and making moves. So for these reasons and others within the cornucopia of fun it provides, I am thankful for dynasty fantasy football.

Dave Wright: There’s so much I’m thankful for when it comes to Dynasty fantasy football. Whether it’s the helpful commissioners in my leagues, my league mates who let me draft Tank Dell in the 4th round of rookie drafts, or the countless hours I spend entertained playing fantasy football with some of my closest friends. But I’m most thankful for how supportive the Dynasty community is of Fantasy Cares. This community goes above and beyond supporting, donating, and raising awareness for Fantasy Cares so thousands of kids can get presents around the holidays who otherwise would go without. Thank you all for helping fantasy football bring a little happiness to so many. Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving.

Josh Brickner: I’m thankful for buying low on Dak Prescott in my contending Superflex leagues after the San Francisco game.

Aaron St. Denis: I am thankful for NFL teams with consolidated production. As the fantasy playoffs inch closer it’s never more important to have a reliable player on your dynasty squad. The luxury of having players on teams like Dallas and Philadelphia is critical. These teams produce high-end fantasy numbers for 2-3 players and have no one else to consider. This is far more ideal for fantasy than a team like Green Bay that has 3-4 receivers taking turns producing mediocre fantasy points.

Andrew Francesconi: What I’m most thankful for when it comes to dynasty FF is the community and friendship. My first dynasty league started after I graduated from law school. My law school friends and I had the same league for three straight years and decided to turn it into a dynasty league in order to keep those friendships we built alive and thriving. It’s a great way to stay connected with friends year-round while also being competitive with each other.

Ken Moody: I am most thankful for the amazing team of fantasy football people I work with (and have worked with over the years) at DLF.
So many people who are not just awesome at what they do, but who are more importantly just awesome people.

John Kinsley: As the dynasty season reaches the holiday spirit, it’s important to be thankful for those that help deliver you wins. And for that, I am eternally thankful for Steelers running back Jaylen Warren. Granted, he’s been on my bench the last few weeks, but he’s given me an option I can trust as my team looks to cement a playoff spot in regular fantasy, and someone I can invest in for future dynasty seasons.

A talented running back who’s always oozed potential, Warren has finally been unleashed in the last two games, rushing for a combined 230 yards on 24 carries, 9.6 yards per carry, and two touchdowns. He runs with incredible purpose, with the quick vision the Steelers’ run game has sorely needed and the athleticism needed to shed off tacklers.

Warren’s usage will be important not just for the Steelers’ playoff hopes, but for anyone looking to find the next big gem at the position. And for that, I am thankful he has made that search a little bit easier.

Justin Taylor: This Thanksgiving season, I am most thankful for all my league mates in my fantasy football leagues. The camaraderie and the competitive spirit in fantasy football are what makes it so fun. My home keeper league has been around for more than 15 years with very little turnover, and our live draft is one of my favorite days of the year. My home Dynasty IDP League has been around going on 10 years and continues to be my favorite league I’m in. What makes Dynasty Fantasy Football so great is the ability to build a team and mold your roster however you want. I also want to thank Christian McCaffrey, my favorite fantasy player, for having a great season and proving me right when I traded for him everywhere the last couple of seasons.

John Hesterman: I would say that for this season, the thing that I am most thankful for is Puka Nacua and how he was valued by the dynasty community. I drafted him in five of my dynasty leagues, the earliest being 4.03 and the latest being 5.04. The production versus cost and the trade value he fetched in the one league where I sold high have been exceptional. He has been fun to watch and a fantastic ROI dynasty asset.

Bruce Matson: I’m thankful for the dynasty fantasy football community, there are a lot of great people in this space.

For the 2023 season, I’m grateful for CJ Stroud and the Texans team for pushing the offense. We’ve seen multiple fantasy contributors in their offense this season from Tank Dell, Nico Collins, Noah Brown, and even Devin Singletary as of late. Seeing a rookie quarterback-wide receiver tandem be productive like this is very rare and I’m very thankful to witness this in 2023.

Matt Price: When it comes to dynasty fantasy football, I am most grateful to the managers who are engaged all year long. Managers who answer trade offers promptly, send out offers of their own, pay their league dues on time, and refrain from repeatedly asking questions about rules clearly stated in the bylaws. These are the true heroes of fantasy football. They make the time we invest in this hobby worthwhile. If you aren’t playing in leagues filled with managers like this, make it your New Year’s resolution to leave leagues that make you unhappy and join or create new leagues that will.

Thank you to all the managers in my leagues, especially the ones that make it easy to act as commissioner in my Red List wildlife conservation leagues, which are filled with people willing to donate a significant portion of the prize pool each year to people and animals less fortunate than we are.

Russ Fisher: The cheater’s answer is I am thankful for everything about dynasty fantasy football. Every ounce of this game brings me joy. the real answer, and the easy answer is the people. Through dynasty fantasy football I have met some amazing people, made some great friends, and have found some people I now consider family. I am thankful for everyone out there who plays this silly game of ours and has fun with it.

Rob Willette: This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the tight end landscape. I am not making a middle school joke; rather, I am acknowledging the rare depth we have seen emerge at the position. Young players such as Sam LaPorta, Dalton Kincaid, and Trey McBride have emerged as TE1’s. Luke Musgrave, Greg Dulcich, Jake Ferguson, and Michael Mayer have all flashed promise to varying degrees. Maybe we can bully Arthur Smith into featuring Kyle Pitts. For once, all managers can have a viable TE.

Jeff Smith: I am thankful that a game I love that brings me so much joy allows me to give back, even if it is just a tiny fraction of what I receive from it. This season, I competed in three leagues for a good cause and was inspired enough to start my own in my professional industry.

I played in the Scott Fish Bowl (Fantasy Cares), Polly’s Playoff League (Walt to End Alzheimer’s), and the Warrior Bowl (Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice). Each of the foundations received extra funding because of a game we love. I had an epiphany to check for interest in my industry (Lease-Purchase of home goods) about raising money through a fantasy football contest. Thus, the first-ever RTO Bowl was formed. I was able to get ten other rental dealers together to contribute a minimum of $50 to enter, with the winner being able to donate the
prize to the charity of their choice. Needless to say, it has been a success as dealers who aren’t even in the competition are donating. At the end of the day, one lucky charity will receive close to $1,000 in funding. What a great community we have, and we are truly blessed to
have forward-thinking individuals such as Scott Fish amongst us.
