Dynasty Injury Report: Week 10

Jeff Mueller

We review relevant weekly injuries and provide helpful insight into how bad the injury is and what the expected timeline for recovery is for your key player. The weekly injury roundup will be posted on Wednesdays to discuss injuries that just occurred. I would also encourage you to tune in to the DLF YouTube channel (make sure to subscribe!) to tune in to helpful content throughout the week.

Derek Carr, QB NO

Injury: Concussion

Return to Play: Week 12-13

Fantasy Impact: Carr’s shoulder injury is reportedly not a concern and tests came back negative, so the primary concern here is the concussion. It does not sound like the Saints are seriously considering a quarterback change, so once Carr clears protocol he should return to start. They have a bye this week so watch his status closely for week 12.

Deshaun Watson, QB CLE

Injury: Left Ankle, Right Shoulder

Return to Play: Season-Ending

Fantasy Impact: Via video regarding his ankle, his injury appeared to be a high ankle sprain while being tackled and rolled up on. While he was able to continue playing through this one, it was likely painful and swollen after the game. However, the real concern here is the news that was just reported this morning regarding a fracture of his glenoid, which is a surface on his shoulder blade where the humerus sits and rotates in. This injury likely occurred during a dislocation or subluxation event while being tackled, and unfortunately, it will require season-ending surgery to fixate. It comes with a four to six month timetable to recover and return to full velocity in throwing, so I would anticipate Watson being a full-go for 2024 OTAs and healthy for the 2024 season.

Taylor Heinicke, QB ATL

Injury: Hamstring

Return to Play: Week 12-13

Fantasy Impact: Heinicke suffered a reportedly mild hamstring strain that may not wind up costing him any games considering the Falcons have their bye week. The real question remains, the Falcons will be assessing and deciding who their quarterback will be for the remainder of the season between Desmond Ridder and Heinicke.

Baker Mayfield, QB TB

Injury: Right Thumb

Return to Play: Week 11

Fantasy Impact: Testing revealed no significant damage to his thumb on his throwing hand and has been labeled as day to day. I would anticipate him playing in week 11 but potentially with a small effect on his accuracy, especially on intermediate to deep throws. Monitor his status in practice.

Alexander Mattison, RB MIN

Injury: Concussion

Return to Play: Week 12

Fantasy Impact: Mattison now enters the concussion protocol and will need to clear all stages in order to play. Majority of players to enter the protocol wind up missing at least one game. If he is out, it would likely be a large boost to Ty Chandler.

Keaton Mitchell, RB BAL

Injury: Hamstring – No Setbacks

Return to Play: Week 11

Fantasy Impact: Mitchell entered week 10 with a hamstring strain but looked like his explosive self and did not suffer any setbacks. Head coach John Harbaugh indicated that Mitchell should be more involved for Thursday night, so he may wind up being a solid flex play with teams on bye (but make sure not to set him in a flex spot since he plays on Thursday night).

Keenan Allen, WR LAC

Injury: Left Shoulder

Return to Play: Week 11

Fantasy Impact: I do not anticipate this AC sprain limiting Allen or keeping him from playing next week. Monitor his practice status, but as of now based on initial reports I am not projecting any production dip.

Michael Thomas, WR NO

Injury: Knee

Return to Play: TBD

Fantasy Impact: Early reports have indicated that the knee injury is serious but not season-ending. This could be a high grade MCL sprain or something else, but for now I would anticipate him being out for 4-6 weeks. Hopefully this means an increased role and utilization for Chris Olave, but Rashid Shaheed will also need to step up.

Tee Higgins, WR CIN

Injury: Hamstring

Return to Play: Week 12-13

Fantasy Impact: This is technically on next week’s injury report but as projected, Higgins is unlikely to play week 11 on the short week for Thursday night. This should lead to another boost to Trenton Irwin, and I would anticipate Ja’Marr Chase being utilized in his normal high volume role after largely being a decoy for most of the game but coming out of the game without issues.

Gerald Everett, TE LAC

Injury: Back

Return to Play: Week 11

Fantasy Impact: Everett has been listed as day to day with a mild back sprain. I would anticipate him being able to suit up for week 11 but with a production dip and reinjury concern. Plan to have another TE option for week 11.
