Dynasty Injury Report: Week Seven
My name is Kyle Trimble, I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy, the other half of the injury analyst team here at Dynasty League Football. We are here each and every week to break down the latest injuries and provide perspective on how to navigate the pitfalls that are injuries.
The weekly injury roundup will be posted on Wednesdays to discuss injuries that just occurred. I would also encourage you to tune in to the DLF YouTube channel (make sure to subscribe!) to tune in to helpful content throughout the week.
Let’s start with injury updates as we enter week eight of the season.
Jaylen Waddle, WR MIA
Injury: Back spasms
Return to Play: Week 8
Waddle left during the second quarter with a back injury, questionable to return. Fortunately, he was able to return but was wearing a heating pad to help out with the spasms. While the team may do some imaging to ensure there are not any underlying issues, there should not be any concern heading into week eight.
Jerome Ford, RB CLE
Injury: Right high-ankle sprain
Return to Play: Week 10-11
Ford went down with a right high-ankle sprain after collecting 74 yards and a touchdown on the ground on Sunday against Indianapolis. While reports indicated that this is a “low-grade, high-ankle sprain”, I would expect that he misses closer to two weeks, if not even more. Even when he does return, he will still struggle out of the gate. Go grab Pierre Strong who should see a workload increase in the backfield.
Luke Musgrave, TE GB
Injury: Left ankle sprain
Return to Play: Week 8-9
Musgrave took a hard hit from Denver Broncos CB Kareem Jackson that saw Jackson later getting suspended for four games. On the hard hit, Musgrave’s left ankle got caught underneath and twisted inward, similar to a classic low-ankle sprain. While he was seen in a walking boot, he should be able to return to play rather quickly. I would not expect him to miss more than one week. If he misses week eight, look elsewhere for a tight end replacement rather than in Green Bay.
Mohamed Ibrahim, RB DET
Injury: Right dislocated hip
Return to Play: 2024
Ibrahim suffered a right hip dislocation in the middle of the third quarter on a play on kickoff when he was landed on by a Ravens player. He underwent surgery to stabilize the hip and repair the damage. He will miss the rest of the season and while he did not have much fantasy relevance, the significance of the injury warranted a brief discussion.
Saquon Barkley, RB NYG
Injury: Left elbow hyperextension
Return to Play: Week 8
Barkley suffered a left elbow hyperextension early in the game after he was tackled out of bounds while trying to brace his fall. He briefly left and returned with a compression sleeve on his elbow and he finished the game. When he does return in week eight, he would be best to avoid carrying the ball on that side and blocking, but he can still be quite effective. Start him without hesitation.
Dawson Knox, TE BUF
Injury: Right wrist surgery
Return to Play: Week 12-14
Knox suffered a right wrist injury back in week five due to a direct hit from a helmet late in the fourth quarter. Despite taping up the wrist, the past two games saw him struggle, as he secured four receptions for 27 yards on nine targets. On Monday, the team announced that Knox would undergo surgery without a timeline to return. Depending on the injury, he may have ligament damage that could see him miss the next four to six weeks at least. Keep in mind that the Bills have a bye in week 13 which could play to his advantage. Look to see Dalton Kincaid increase his targets and with Quintin Morris out with a right high-ankle sprain, consider Reggie Gilliam for a high-risk, high-reward pickup.
Pat Freiermuth, TE PIT
Injury: Hamstring strain
Return to Play: Week 11
Freiermuth aggravated a hamstring strain in practice last Thursday, originally injured back in week four against the Houston Texans. That injury cost him two games before this latest setback. The Steelers elected to send him to injured reserve for at least the next four weeks and activated Diontae Johnson coming off his own hamstring strain. Johnson will get a heavy dose of targets but Darnell Washington, the hulking tight end out of Georgia could see enough targets to make him fantasy-relevant.
Christian Watson, WR GB
Injury: Right knee
Return to Play: Week 8-9
Watson suffered a right knee injury on the final Packers drive when he attempted to catch a pass, missing and falling awkwardly. He clutched his right knee in pain before getting to the sideline for further evaluation. By video, there is concern for an MCL sprain or even potentially a meniscus injury. This will be an injury to watch in the coming days to see how he progresses in practice. Look at Romeo Doubs or Jayden Reed to get more targets if Watson is out.
