Dynasty Fantasy Football Rankings: Cornerstone Report, Week Five
Welcome to the Cornerstone Report where we will check in on the young players in football (2024 eligible, rookies, and second year) each week! As the hottest commodities in dynasty and devy, these players can make or break your teams in the future. Here are some of the top headlines and reports for the future of the league.
Blake Corum, RB Michigan keeps moving up the board
After a knee injury ended his season early in 2022, Corum has been the consistent lead in the Michigan backfield this season. Averaging 5.74 yards per carry, he is getting chunk yardage. He has also scored nine times in five games. The short back is agile in short space and making his case to be the top RB selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Jonathon Brooks, RB Texas and Ray Davis, RB Kentucky emerge onto the scene
Some new names at big schools have emerged in the devy market at RB. Many thought true freshman CJ Baxter would take over the Texas backfield, but Brooks, in his third year, has flashed NFL potential early. In the past three games, he has 487 yards rushing and four touchdowns. With good patience, explosiveness, and long speed, Brooks is becoming a name to know.
Ray (formerly Re’Mahn) Davis has bounced around college football throughout his career. After an early breakout at Temple, he transferred to Vanderbilt. With success in the SEC last year, he moved up to Kentucky and has been running wild. This past weekend, Davis ran for 280 yards and three touchdowns against Florida. He also added a receiving touchdown to boot. The Wildcats didn’t even try to throw the ball when Davis can take over. Check and see if he is on a devy roster, and potentially trade for Davis and his day two potential.
Jahmyr Gibbs, RB DET playing second fiddle in the offense
Fantasy owners were frustrated once again with the usage of Gibbs by the Lions this week. With David Montgomery returning, Gibbs took a backseat to Monty’s three-touchdown performance. After drafting him at 12th overall, the Lions seem to be saving Gibbs’ receiving ability and explosion in space for harder defenses that they can’t bully at the line. Though it may be disappointing fantasy owners, the Lions may have a longer-term plan for Gibbs.
Sam LaPorta, TE DET remains a consistent target
Staying in Detroit, LaPorta has quickly turned into a top-five week-to-week option at TE. Receiving 27 target in only four games, it seems like LaPorta is schemed up for shorter targets, and he flashes athleticism after the catch. Though he was behind Dalton Kincaid and Michael Mayer in many predraft rankings, LaPorta seems to have emerged as the best option early in his career.
Zach Wilson, QB NYJ shows some promise
Wilson went into a primetime game against the Kansas City Chiefs and was expected to be overmatched. Instead, he pulled together a great game and nearly pulled the upset against Patrick Mahomes and company. He looked more comfortable in the offense and may have proven himself to be capable. For Superflex leagues, Wilson is worth rostering or maybe even trading for cheap as a rest-of-season option.
Kyren Williams, RB LAR continues early season success
Williams has been one of the most unlikely fantasy studs this season. This past weekend against the Colts, Williams had two touchdowns and over 100 yards rushing, along with three receptions. The Rams offensive line has created good space and Williams shows why he was once thought of as a top RB prospect in college football. The quickness and vision are on display in a Rams offense that has been surprisingly potent. It appears Williams will continue scoring fantasy points all season long and may have some longevity in this offense.
