20/20 Interview with Brandon Gonzalez-Cottrell

Amy Garcia

This week, DLF writer, Brandon Gonzalez-Cottrell, spent a few minutes with us so you could get to know him a bit more. Enjoy!

Where are you from?

Born in Toms River NJ; Live currently in Waterford, CT.

What do you do for your regular job?

Executive director of The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in New London, CT.

What is the worst job you have ever had?

Organized the backroom of a footlocker.

What is the best job you have ever had?

Current position- Love working with kids and helping inspire them to be their very best.

What do you consider your dream job?

Play by play of any sport. I love watching sports and telling the story of the game.

How long have you been in the industry?

Three months

How did you get your break into fantasy football?

Helped manage the Destination Devy Discord all 2020 season. The rest is history.

What tool do you use the most on DLF?

I use the trade finder the most on DLF. The finder gives me a sense of where managers are currently valuing certain players.

What tool do you use the most outside of DLF?

Destination Devy has a really detailed Analytic sheet produced by Jordan Backes. For someone who isn’t huge into the analytic side, it has something from very basic breakdowns to very thorough analytical details.

Who was the best sleeper you pegged that broke out?

Justin Herbert- I am an Oregon Duck college football fan and got to watch much of his college career. It was nice to see someone who has knocked down a peg in the draft season in 2020 blossom into one of the top fantasy QB options.

Who was your biggest whiff?

Chris Herndon: thought for sure he would be a great security blanket for Sam Darnold. Obviously, that ended up not happening.

What is the worst trade you have made?

Last season traded Jace Sternberger for the rookie pick that would end up being Antonio Gibson.

Who is your favorite underfollowed Twitter account?

@jmthrivept- Our injury analyst Jeff Mueller. The guy provides a ton of solid injury analysis in season and is not afraid to stick to his convictions.

Who is your favorite NFL team?

New York Giants

Who is your favorite college football team?

Oregon Ducks

Who was your favorite player growing up?

I loved watching Amani Toomer as a kid growing up. Being a Giants fan, I loved watching him make the big plays and leading the Giant’s offense.

Who is your favorite player of all time?

Barry Sanders. His ability to shift gears, stop on a dime, and make something out of nothing was nothing short of incredible and fun to watch. I’d pay any price to watch him live.

What other hobbies or passions do you have outside of fantasy football?

I love golf. The season is far too short here in New England, but it’s a great escape from the day-to-day routine of life.

What are some of your favorite movies?

I could watch A league of their own/ Braveheart/ Happy Gilmore on repeat all day long and be content.

Who are some of your favorite bands?

I listen to just about anything, but I guess I grew up on bands like Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, and Linkin Park.
