20/20 Interview with Ethan Turner

The DLF Team

This week, Doctor of Physical Therapy and injury analyst, Ethan Turner, took some time to let you get to know him. Enjoy!

Where are you from?

A small town in Central IL, about 30 minutes away from Eastern IL University. College home of Sean Payton, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Tony Romo.

What do you do for your regular job?

I run two sports and orthopedic physical therapy clinics. Everything from seeing patients to scanning papers. It’s a lot more fun than it sounds!

What is the worst job you have ever had?

One summer I pumped sewage out of houseboats…paid well but I dealt with a lot of crap. Literally.

What is the best job you have ever had?

Probably my job now. Working with athletes every day and healing people is super rewarding.

What do you consider your dream job?

ESPN injury analyst or maybe just not needing to work at all. Work is still work.

How long have you been in the industry?

4 years and counting.

How did you get your break into fantasy football?

I wrote something on Reddit about Allen Robinson’s ACL injury, a week later I was writing articles for 2 different fantasy websites.

What tool do you use the most on DLF?

The ADP apps. I love seeing who is gaining/losing value and trying to find ways to leverage consensus value to make my teams better.

What tool do you use the most outside of DLF?

Probably my 2020 Rookie Injury Guide. Having injury histories for players is such a great advantage when it comes to recognizing player risk. It’s a must-have on rookie draft night.

Who was the best sleeper you pegged that broke out?

I was super bullish on Antonio Gibson last season. That’s working out well for my dynasty squads.

Who was your biggest whiff?

Probably OJ Howard. I thought he was the next Gronk…

What is the worst trade you have made?

About 4 years ago I traded Travis Kelce for Clive Walford and 2 seconds. Woof.

Who is your favorite underfollowed Twitter account?

Probably @HollywoodTitan he’s one of the best IDP minds in the game and helped me win my first IDP championship this season.

Who is your favorite NFL team?

Steelers

Who is your favorite college football team?

I would say, Notre Dame. I didn’t go to a college with a football team so I don’t have a strong allegiance to any one team.

Who was your favorite player growing up?

Hines Ward or Peyton Manning

Who is your favorite player of all time?

Ryan Shazier. The dude is an inspiration.

What other hobbies or passions do you have outside of fantasy football?

I like to disc golf and enjoy rec league basketball. Trying new restaurants with my wife.

What are some of your favorite movies?

Oh man too many to count. I loved The Dark Knight, Inception, Step Brothers, Pacific Rim, pretty much any James Bond Movie, the MCU. Basically, if it’s a good movie I liked it.

Who are some of your favorite bands?

I listen to just about everything. I was never really a concert goer so I wouldn’t say I have a favorite. Just depends on the mood I guess.
