IDP Snap Counts: Week Seven

Tom Kislingbury

Hi everyone. This is a long enough read anyway so let’s get straight to it!

Arizona Cardinals

Deone Bucannon is actually starting to look better which is great news. He’s playing every snap at this stage and given the injury at QB will be getting a lot of work going forward.

Justin Bethel was finally benched at corner after being pretty bad for a long time. Tramon Williams is his replacement and worth adding although I expect teams to run more on the Cardinals from here on out given that Drew Stanton is not keeping this team competitive.

Atlanta Falcons

Duke Riley got hurt at LB and Kemal Ishmael stepped in. He’s been a career safety but the team said he’d be a backup LB and proved themselves true to their word.

On the edge Vic Beasley is fit again but played just 35 snaps. He only played 26 the week before. That is not enough volume for him to be an elite pass rusher.

Baltimore Ravens

Brandon Williams returned on the interior of the D line this week with 45 snaps. That should make a big difference to the team’s ability to defend the run but is not an IDP worth owning. Willie Henry missed out in return.

Matt Judon predictably couldn’t replicate his huge performance the week before at outside linebacker. Obviously part of that was due to his 70 snaps dropping to 49.

Buffalo Bills

Matt Milano again started at LB coming out of the bye. He managed 47 snaps and a decent day. Hopefully you snapped him up when he first started getting time four weeks ago.

At cornerback EJ Gaines returned to fitness. I like him for the rest of the year given Tre White is rapidly becoming a player to avoid for QBs.

Carolina Panthers

Firstly; every Panther had a big drop in volume this week. The game just worked out that way given the Panthers offense couldn’t hold the ball. So a lot of panthers had disappointing weeks. Don’t assume that means anything. Total volume will go back up.

Luke Kuechly missed the week at LB. Shaq Thompson and Thomas Davis played 38 snaps and David Mayo got 29.

Chicago Bears

This was a weird game. The Bears were pretty great on defense obviously aided by Eddie Jackson’s two turnover scores. He played 72 snaps alongside Adrian Amos. It was a huge day but he’s still a free safety. It’s worth trying to cash in on him if you can.

At LB Christian Jones continues to start alongside Danny Trevathan but DT is the man to own. Especially with Nick Kwiatkowski returning soon. On the outside Pernell McPhee is maddeningly not getting the volume Leonard Floyd is. Nothing against Floyd – I just like McPhee. Over the last three weeks Floyd has averaged 66 snaps per game. McPhee just 42.

Cincinnati Bengals

Vontaze Burfict saw some discipline issues in this game. I wouldn’t be surprised if he picks up a suspension. Remember we know that Vincent Rey is the man to own in his absence.

On the edge Carl Lawson has lost a bit of his shine. He played just 17 snaps this week.

Further back it’s worth noting that Clayton Fejdelem did not play at safety. Shawn Williams and George Iloka were of course full time back there with Williams never leaving the field.

Cleveland Browns

I get to go and watch the Browns this week! I don’t know whether that’s a good or a bad thing.

With Jason McCourty missing the game Briean Boddy-Calhoun stepped up to play full-time. He’s annoyingly good and doesn’t get much action. Mike Jordan came in on nickel snaps.

Myles Garrett played more again this week. In his three weeks he’s now seen 19, 33 and 57 snaps. He’s a must-start of course.

It’s worth noting that with Jamie Collins fit again the Browns leave all three LBs on the field all the time. Christian Kirksey and Joe Schobert played 72 snaps this week with Collins on 71. It’s not an old-fashioned defense with three LBs – Collins gets moved around and plays plenty on the edge or in the slot. I hate to say it but Collins is the least impressive player of the three. In NFL and IDP terms.

Dallas Cowboys

Taco Charlton got a bit of a bump this week! He saw 37 snaps which is the most he’s played so far. Benson Mayowa’s absence is the main reason but I don’t care. It’s positive.

At linebacker Sean Lee returned to play 49 snaps. Anthony Hitchens played 41, Jaylon Smith 32, Damien Wilson 18 and Kyle Wilber 7. What a mess. Hopefully Lee plays full-time again next week and this clears up a bit.

Denver Broncos

LB Todd Davis played just 28 snaps this week with safety Will Parks managing 32. Tis usage is gameplan-dependent and neither should be in your starting line-up if you can possibly avoid it.

Detroit Lions

Bye

Green Bay Packers

Blake Martinez has suddenly started getting some love at linebacker. I get it. He’s playing a ton and he’s putting up numbers. It is worth noting however that he has played over 70 snaps each of the last three weeks. With Brett Hundley at QB the Packers defense will see a lot of time but even so that’s not sustainable from Martinez. He’s an LB1 at this stage but be aware current production won’t last.

Josh Jones continues to be a part time player even with Morgan Burnett out. I’ve been advocating selling him ever since his monster week. Hopefully you did. This week jones played 20 snaps fewer than both Haha Clinton-Dix and Kentrell Brice.

Houston Texans

Bye

Indianapolis Colts

At corner Rashaan Melvin picked up a knock and played just seven snaps this week. Kenny Moore (46) was the man to step in and may be useful going forwards.

At outside linebacker John Simon got hurt. In his absence Barkevious Mingo played 41 snaps.

And lastly at free safety Malik Hooker shredded his knee and is out for the year. This is a great shame for a talented young player of course. In his absence Darius Butler will move into a full-time role.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Paul Posluszny played just five snaps last week. His game average for the full season is 20. He does not deserve a spot on your roster I’m afraid.

At DE Dante Fowler continues to defy his low snap number but I still say it can’t last. He’s played 163 snaps fewer than Calais Campbell for the season so far. That’s three or four complete games worth of playing time.

Kansas City Chiefs

As we expected Dee Ford played a full load and is back fully healthy at OLB. He saw 80 snaps this week compared to Frank Zombo’s five. Justin Houston is the full-time player on the other side of course.

Los Angeles Chargers

I am seriously worried about Jatavis Brown. He’s been fit enough to play the last two weeks but seen just 20 and 18 snaps respectively. The team appear to be using him purely as a passing-down LB at this stage. He’s clearly good enough to be used more but Gus Bradley doesn’t appear to believe he can manage it physically. Hayes Pullard has led the team in LB snaps the past three weeks now.

On the edge Jeremiah Attaochu got back on the field and played 21 snaps. He’s got a tough job seeing the field behind Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram but he’s a good player and I’m happy he’s fit.

Los Angeles Rams

Some poor people started Cody Davis at safety. I was one of them. He didn’t see the field at all this week with LaMarcus Joyner fit again (44 snaps).

It was generally a low-snap game for the team with the Cardinals woeful. Don’t be put off by any of them based on this game.

Miami Dolphins

Cam Wake is a superstar even at his age. I had him down for eight sacks on the season which seemed high. After last week he’s on six already which is amazing at his age. He played just 32 snaps this week. Charles Harris had more (34) but I half the player Wake is.

Ndamokung Suh managed 53 snaps this week (which is also his season average). Only DeForest Buckner and Gerald McCoy have averaged more amongst DTs.

Minnesota Vikings

Phew! Linebacker Anthony Barr was back to a full workload this week and managed 65 snaps. No sign of the rotation that we saw last week when Emmanuel Lamur subbed in for him. Lamur didn’t see the field this week.

At safety Andrew Sendejo was fit again (65 snaps) and Anthony Harris did not play.

New England Patriots

The Patriots remain impossible to predict. Last week Jordan Richards played 35 snaps at safety. This week just six. Davis Harris played 19 snaps this week at linebacker. He’d managed seven in the whole season until then. DT Malcom Brown played just 16 snaps in the fog. He’d been averaging 44 per week before.

New Orleans Saints

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson has now played over twenty snaps the last two weeks straight. He’s gathering momentum. Stash him in deep leagues ahead of a 2018 breakout.

AJ Klein had a big day of course with six solos. He only played 55 snaps compared to the 81 he managed the week before (when he recorded no solos at all). Maddening.

Craig Robertson also played 55 snaps and is locked in as a starter t=at this stage.

New York Jets

There were no major changes at all week on week. Kony Ealy continues to play only around 30 snaps a week behind Muhammad Wilkerson and leonard Williams who play 55-60 each.

New York Giants

Kerry Wynn is dominating snaps across from Jason Pierre-Paul. Wyn has played over 50 the last two weeks now.

At LB Keenan Robinson was top dog this week with 67. Devon Kennard hit 53, BJ Goodson 41 and Curtis Grant 34. I cannot say enough times how much it’s not worth your time trying to figure this mess out.

Oakland Raiders

NaVorro Bowman walked into 60 snaps in his first game as a Raider (and the green dot). Nicholas Morrow was behind him with just 38 snaps. Brice Irvin of course continued in his Sam role that does not generate IDP stats. I’m looking forward to seeing Cory James fit into this when he’s fit but I’m not optimistic. I’ve traded James and Marquel lee away this season already. I advise taking any sort of value on Raiders LBs.

Philadelphia Eagles

With Fletcher Cox back healthy Timmy Jernigan again saw low volume at DT. He’s played just 42 combined snaps in the last two games.

Jordan Hicks played just two snaps at linebacker. Najee Goode stepped up to play 49 snaps with Mychal Kendricks missing out. Nigel Bradham managed 64 as lead dog.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Stephon Tuitt was out again with Tyson Alualu (41 snaps) again filling in for him. Alualu managed four solos and a sack but we know that’s not going to be what he produces going forwards. Ignore him unless you’re in a 32-team league.

Seattle Seahawks

Frank Clark played 50 snaps at DE. Since Cliff Avril went down hurt Clark is number two on the depth chart behind Michael Bennett and has picked up around ten snaps per game. He’s still an idiot. I want no shares. Branden Jackson(17) is now the fourth DE behind Marcus Smith fighting it out for relief time.

San Francisco 49ers

Eric Reid was fit again and played 48 defensive snaps. That was significantly behind Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward who both played 75. I loved Reid pre-season but Tartt (who leads the NFL in defensive snaps with over 500 already) has played himself into a starting gig.

Reuben Foster managed 53 snaps on his return to fitness. I just hope he’s OK this week after that rib injury.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Vernon Hargreaves has been a lovely IDP player since he entered the league because he’s been so inept at corner. He got moved to the slot this week and correspondingly played just 36 snaps. There is a short window to trade him away if you own him. I recommend you take advantage.

At linebacker Kwon Alexander is fit again. He and Lavonte David dominated snaps with 68 and 67 respectively. Kendell Beckwith played 53 and managed a few tackles. Again I recommend trading him whilst you can.

Tennessee Titans

Somene asked me about Adoree’ Jackson this week. Rest assured he’s still playing every down. It’s just the Titans had some low-volume weeks. It shot up again this week with Jackson playing 70 snaps. He’s hit 70 snaps three separate times already now. He’s also averaging 13 special teams snaps per week too.

DaQuan Jones randomly played 53 snaps this week and had a good week. He’d been averaging 35 snaps per week beforehand.

Washington Redskins

Montae Nicholson managed 65 snaps and was a full time starter again at safety across from DJ Swearinger.

Ryan Anderson picked up about 10 snaps at OLB from Preston Smith. Anderson isn’t relevant yet but this is one to watch.

I hope you have another great week and your IDP teams are dominating your leagues. Good luck everyone!
