The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Fifteen

Ken Kelly

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

This weekend marked the opening of Rogue One: A STAR WARS Story.  I won’t fill up this column with a ton of spoilers, but let’s just say a bunch of people with little to no chance of changing the world make a pretty significant difference. Unfortunately, a couple of people changed the landscape of the fantasy football season this week as well.

I was reminded yet again just why dynasty leagues are the best on the planet. Many titles were lost this week to underdog rebels like Ty Montgomery and Bilal Powell, but in a dynasty league, you can hang on to the hope your monster squad can have another shot at it next year.  In a yearly league, you have to start over and that stings even more.  After all, you can’t build a DEATH STAR every season in a re-draft league.

Anyway, on to the recap.

Week Fifteen Fantasy MVP

Three weeks ago, Brandin Cooks put up a shocking “goose egg” on no targets against the LA Rams. In the weeks since, he has 17 catches for over 310 yards and two touchdowns. This week was a playoff dream as he posted seven catches for 186 yards and those two scores. Cooks is hit and miss in terms of WR1 performance, but he showed yet again that fewer players in the league have the potential for bigger games than he does.

Week Fifteen Fantasy LVP

Marcus Mariota had an eight game stretch this season where he was simply incredible.  Unfortunately, he posted his second straight dud this week with 241 yards, one interception and a lost fumble. There will be better days ahead, but owners who rolled the dice on Mariota likely lost their chance at a fantasy title.

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I was banking on Jordan Reed the rest of the way. He’s injured and frustrated.

I’d be worried if I was needing a big game from Stefon Diggs right about now.

I’d be worried if I was banking on Terrelle Pryor on any other Brown.

I’d be worried if I was playing Ty Montgomery or Bilal Powell this week.

I’d be worried if I was still starting DeVante Parker.

I’d be worried if I was needing a big game from Todd Gurley.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t already thinking about what to offer to get the 1.01 or 1.02.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think DeAndre Hopkins could finish strong now.

I’d be worried if I had sat Drew Brees this week.

I’d be worried if I was needing Doug Martin to perform.

I’d be worried if I expected that again from John Brown.

I’d be worried if I thought I knew which Bears receiver was going to perform this week.

I’d be worried if I was starting Amari Cooper.  It’s just not working at the moment. You likely have to play him, but consider big numbers a bonus.

I’d be worried if I owned Randall Cobb. Wow.

I’d be worried if I was counting on Coby Fleener.

I’d be worried if I was starting Rashad Jennings. It’s just too tough to call.

I’d be worried if I owned Allen Robinson. This has been unbelievable.

A Look Ahead to Hot Names on the Waiver Wire

1.) Tom Savage, QB HOU

It only took the Texans fifteen weeks to realize Brock Osweiler is awful.  Savage did a nice job last week and could find his way into a quarterback competition next season if he can show well again this week.  Let’s see how he does when a team game plans against him this week.
