The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Fourteen

Ken Kelly

Editor’s Note: On weeks without significant waiver wire suggestions, the Dynasty Aftermath may post later than normal to instead cover any developments on Tuesday or Wednesday. Lucky for us we had the Michael Floyd saga take a bit of a weird turn. This week, there really weren’t any hardly owned prospects worth dropping previous week’s suggestions for. As always, things get a little thin at this point and the danger is dropping a player you picked up earlier for this week’s shiny object. Remember, we’ve covered Kenneth Farrow and Bilal Powell is certainly already rostered in your league.

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

The name of the game at this point is easy – Stayin’ Alive.  This is the most exciting time of the year and all you need to do is survive and advance in the playoffs.  It may not be pretty, but that’s the only thing to be concerned with. In the end, crazy dumb luck may sink you, but the building process can be the best part of it all.  Sometimes it’s the journey and not the destination. At least that’s what the losers say. Heh.

Week Fourteen Fantasy MVP

Le’Veon Bell likely vaulted any team he was on into the fantasy playoffs as he posted 236 rushing yards, four receptions, 62 receiving yards, and scored three touchdowns against the Bills.  Bell is now averaging over 33 points per game (PPR leagues) over his last five contests, which is downright ridiculous.

Week Fourteen Fantasy LVP

Dez Bryant has a tendency to be a feast or famine player and this week was no exception as he recorded one catch for ten yards, then promptly fumbled it, bringing his total in many leagues to either zero or even minus one.  Thanks, Dez!  That does wonders for our playoff hopes.

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I was counting on Michael Floyd to do much for New England. He has been incredibly disappointing this season and the Patriots are loaded with receivers. He’ll be a free agent this off-season as well.  The biggest beneficiary of his departure from Arizona should be JJ Nelson, who is now an intriguing play in the fantasy playoffs.  As for Floyd he’s likely a hold at the moment, but don’t expect him to become Randy Moss in New England.  If my league didn’t have a trade deadline and someone was interested, I’d move him for a mid-round rookie pick without much hesitation.

I’d be worried if I had Matt Forte or Melvin Gordon.  Happens every year right before the playoffs to a player or two and it just so happens to be these two this year.

I’d be worried if I owned Brandin Cooks. He looks to be limping to the finish line here.

I’d be worried if I was playing TY Hilton. He may not be the flashiest receiver out there, but he sure can destroy an opponent.

I’d be worried if I still didn’t believe in Tyreek Hill.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think JJ Nelson was going to decide some league titles.

I’d be worried if I was playing against LeSean McCoy in the playoffs.

I’d be worried if I was still counting on Rashad Jennings.

I’d be worried if I was starting any running back on the Eagles.

I’d be worried if I owned Kelvin Benjamin.  He’s really faded since the beginning of the year.

I’d be worried if I was hoping for Nick Chubb or Sony Michel in my rookie draft.  Uh oh!

I’d be worried if I was still playing Duke Johnson.

I’d be worried if I owned Jermaine Kearse. It looks like Tyler Lockett has taken his job.

I’d be worried if I didn’t seek to get value from Tyler Eifert or Jordan Reed in the off-season. The injuries are just too much for me with these two.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t paying attention to the maturation of Malcolm Mitchell.

I’d be worried if I thought any New York Jets quarterback was the future in fantasy or reality.
