Lineup Advice: Week 16

Jeff Haverlack

camWell … this season is basically a wrap.

As we enter what is typically the final week of the fantasy season, a lot is on the line for many of you.  For most others, it can’t end soon enough and the work for ‘next year’ begins.  To be sure, we have you covered whether all the marbles are still up for grabs or you’re looking up from the bottom of a glass.  I hope you’ve enjoyed the lineup advice here in 2016, we’ve had another great response to this, one of our most popular offerings.  You’ve all challenged me greatly this year and I hope I came through consistently for you.

I always try to put a lot of work into each question; sometimes that desire is challenged by the number (or the length) of the queries.  But my aim is true each week:  I endeavor to treat each question as if it was my own team with a championship or elimination on the line.  Various match-up tools, projections, Vegas over-under lines, player vs. player tools, trending performances and even weather predictions all factor into my decisions.  Even with all of those in the equation, as much as I’d like, I can’t get every one correct.  You’ve all been very gracious in not holding me personally accountable when, perhaps, my thoughts are in direct contrast with your own and the decision costs you valuable points, or worse – the game.  I haven’t had a single frustrated member lashing out and I thank you.

But I do want you to know that as I review my picks, I do feel each poor outcome personally.  Nothing any of you could or would say would make me feel any worse.  But it is with those thoughts that I steel my resolve in doing better ‘next week’ regardless of my success rate.

So here we are, week 16!

For me, it’s been probably my best year in dynasty.  In nine dynasty leagues, I’m playing in the championship game (including one with an odd format) in five.  Just can’t expect to do much better than that.  As great as it has been, it’s been an equally odd year.  Perusing our forums, the frustration and disdain is both palpable and broad.  It’s been a year like no other.  The injuries, rise and fall of top talent and the sheer number of waiver wire talent players that will play prominent roles in this, championship week, leaves me shaking my head and asking:  what in the heck has changed?

If there was ever a time when fantasy may have become boring and routine for you, you’ll remember 2015 as the year where the wild west was revisited and the game stood on its ear.  Be it good or bad for you, you have to admit, it was a year of entertainment and frustration unlike that which we’ve seen, perhaps, ever.

I’ll be writing a piece shortly about what we’ve learned in 2015 and I can’t think of any better way to explain it other than to show you the top ten running backs (PPR) in fantasy through week 15:

  1.  Devonta Freeman
  2. Adrian Peterson
  3. Danny Woodhead
  4. Lamar Miller
  5. David Johnson
  6. Doug Martin
  7. Mark Ingram
  8. DeAngelo Williams
  9. Todd Gurley
  10. Chris Ivory

How many of those players would you have projected to be in the top ten this year when it was all said and done?

SMH.

Good luck to all of you.  I hope you’ve enjoyed our weekly ‘chat’ here and that regardless of your outcome this week, you’re going to be locked and loaded for a great off-season here at DLF!  Unlike most sites, January through August is our wheelhouse and September through December is where we see the results of what we’ve cultivated.  Everyone can be excited  when we reach January as we queue up another incoming class of rookies and start anew.  I can guarantee that you’ll want us in your hip pocket for this next year! Remember, at DLF:

THERE IS NO OFF-SEASON!

….now go get that ring and report back here!
