Week Seven Aftermath

Week seven gave us a few epic performances, notably from Drew Brees and Arian Foster, who both showed they’re still very much in contention to make a run at fantasy MVP of 2011. We also got a first hand look at the possible future of the Dallas backfield in former Sooner DeMarco Murray. Let’s take a look back in a DLF staple, the weekly aftermath.

Week One Fantasy MVP

Arian Foster reminded the fantasy world that the Houston running game still runs through him. With 115 rushing yards, 119 receiving yards and three total touchdowns, Foster was an absolute beast. As we move forward, Foster looks poised to build on last year’s success in an important contract year.

Week One Fantasy LVP

Darren McFadden had a juicy matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, but left with a foot injury after three touches and just seven total yards from scrimmage. Many a team out there lost their games after losing McFadden early in the afternoon.

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if…

I own Tim Hightower. Early word is he could have a torn ACL. Regardless, his grasp on the Redskins running game is over.

I own Felix Jones. DeMarco Murray may still be the backup when Jones returns, but he’s at least earned a time share with his dominant outing this week. It looks like Jones has teased us all yet again.

I own Rashard Mendenhall. We’ve been giving him the benefit of the doubt all season, but he just looks out of sorts at the moment. I’d be attempting to secure Isaac Redman if I’m a Mendenhall owner right about now.

I’m relying on Chris Johnson. Will someone please take this mediocre, impatient and seemingly out of shape running back who plays for the Titans and re-insert the body of Chris Johnson, please.

I expect big things from Knowshon Moreno with Willis McGahee sidelined. I think we’ve seen enough of Moreno to know not to get our hopes up.

I have Peyton Hillis in my dynasty league. All the people who have been berating us for the past year over our apparent disrespect of Hillis are awfully quiet at the moment.

I own Vincent Jackson or Philip Rivers. This is just getting weird.

I expect consistency from Tim Tebow. While he’ll have undoubtedly have some big games, he’ll need to play much better early since he won’t play the Dolphins each week.

I’m hoping for a big season from Denarius Moore. He’s hit the rookie wall and hit it awfully hard.

I have Santana Moss as my WR2. He’s going to be out for some time now with that injury. While he should be back for the fantasy playoffs, he won’t be helping you get there.

I’m playing a team with Jimmy Graham. Antonio Gates 2.0 seems to be legit.

I have Kevin Kolb as my future at quarterback. The way he’s playing, he may not even be Arizona’s future at quarterback.

I have Chris Cooley as my TE2 or better. Fred Davis doesn’t look to be giving that job up at this point.

I have James Starks or Ryan Grant as a flex player. They’re cancelling each other out a bit, but the Packers simply have no desire or need to run the ball at this point.

I own Joe Flacco in my dynasty league. We were all anticipating him taking the next step this season. He has, but it was backwards.

A Look Ahead to Hot Names on the Week Eight Waiver Wire

1. Alfonso Smith RB ARI
With Wells out for a bit, Smith deserves another look.

2. Niles Paul WR WAS
Armstrong, Gaffney and Hankerson are all likely owned in a dynasty league, but Paul could get some looks with Santana Moss out.

3. Lance Ball and Jeremiah Johnson RBs DEN
Let’s just say our confidence in Moreno isn’t that high.

4. Chris Ogbonnaya RB CLE
He was quietly signed and quietly had a pretty good day.

5. Kregg Lumpkin RB TB
Don’t expect a lot, but Tampa Bay is running out of healthy bodies.
