Dynasty Stock Market – Week Four
Many have complained about the lack of parity in the NFL in the recent past. You wanted parity, you’ve got it in 2010. The Chiefs are your only unbeaten team, the Vikings are struggling mightily to find offensive consistency and the Saints and Colts are beaten by the Falcons and Jaguars, respectively – parity we’ve got.
Through four weeks now and things are getting interesting. Some of last year’s bell cows are better left in the pasture and new faces have emerged as every week starters.
RISING
Trent Edwards QB, JAX – Don’t go crazy on me here. Many in the league still like Edwards and he does throw a nice ball. He has been stuck in the fantasy wasteland known as Buffalo for his entire career and now finds himself backing up a floundering David Garrard. Garrard had a nice showing last Sunday and his head is off the block – for now. Edwards is still young, has good size and should get a shot in 2010.
Bruce Gradkowski QB, OAK – He’s looked serviceable.
LT RB, NYJ – Not a sexy pick but one that is sure to be shaping the standings across fantasy football. High draft pick Shonn Greene is getting a minority share of touches and LT looks like he’s 28 again.
Arian Foster RB, HOU – Hard for Foster to rise much more than he has, but after a sub-par week and subsequent benching, he remerged and answered any lingering questions.
Ryan Torain RB, WAS – Torain looks to be the new starter in WAS, pending the outcome of further tests on one Clinton Portis.
Peyton Hillis RB, CLE – He’s turning out to be what all Gerhart owners hope he can be. Chances are, however, that it’s a quick burn for Hillis.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis – It’s obvious that Belichick trusts him. He’s not dynamic or special, but he’s capable and gets the job done. You could do a lot worse at RB3.
Braylon Edwards WR, NYJ – Could he be actually returning to the Edwards of a couple years ago?
Brandon Lloyd WR, DEN – Lloyd has to appear on the list, if not a week late. 17/284/1 over his past two weeks should be enough to exist on any fantasy team. He’s a WR2 at that pace.
Santonio Holmes WR, NYJ – The return of Holmes makes the Jets offense more potent. Give him a few games to get in synch with Sanchez, but the new toy will be a welcomed sight.
Davone Bess WR, MIA – Doing his best Wes Welker imitation. Bess is scrappy, runs great routes and has great hands. In a PPR league, his value is climbing rapidly.
Aaron Hernandez TE, NE – As one of our readers pointed out, Hernandez deserved to be on the list last week. He’s emerged as a viable TE1 thus far into the 2010 season.
James Anderson LB, CAR – Mr. Anderson has emerged a true play maker in Caroline and he’s sure to get plenty more opportunities. He’s averaging over 11 tackles per game.
FALLING
Matt Hasselbeck QB, SEA – The clock is ticking – he has one more week.
David Garrard QB, JAX – As mentioned previously, his head is off the block for now but the signing of Edwards is notice served. Even still, Garrard probably only has 2-3 weeks left or one bad half of play.
Brandon Jackson RB, GB – His value continues to leak away as the weeks roll by. Jackson looked better on Sunday but he’s obviously not going to be a back of the every-down variety.
Clinton Portis RB, WAS – Another injury and a new emerging young back makes Portis a declining commodity.
CJ Spiller RB, BUF – This isn’t an indictment of Spiller as much as it is Buffalo. Not enough balls to go around and even if there were, you’d still have to stay away.

Cadillac Williams RB, TB – Things just got a lot muddier in Tampa. Huggins is said to be getting more touches going forward and LeGarrette Blount is the new short yardage back. Not enough yards are available in Tampa to warrant starting any of these backs and Williams is quickly losing dynasty value.
Larry Fitzgerald WR, ARI – As a fellow Fitz owner in multiple leagues, it’s painfully obvious just how much a good QB is needed for a WR to keep his top status. In Fitzgerald’s case, his frustration (and the frustration of his owners) is all too obvious as he continues to struggle. Max Hall took over for D.A. in week 4 and is likely to be named the QB for the rest of the year. This move can only boost Fitzgerald’s value in the near term, if only for a week or two until more is known about Hall’s abilities.
Mike Sims-Walker WR, JAX – Two straight weeks of sub-par performance and lingering injury issues equate to a steadily declining dynasty value.
