The goal of this space is to provide potentially actionable advice that can ideally help your team for both the short and long terms. It’s going to be dependent upon your explicit league setting, the depth of your waiver wire, and the attitudes of the other owners. Some moves may manifest earlier than others, for better or for worse, and strategies may change on the fly thusly. I once foolishly traded a rookie Odell Beckham thinking I was selling high, which caused me multiple trades and picks trying to make up for it. In another league I caught a falling Justin Jefferson, meaning I haven’t had to worry about my WR1 position for years. Actions, reactions, and subsequent reverberations will continue to occur over time.
And then you run into DJ Moore (49.0 PPR points) or Ja'Marr Chase (52.2 PPR points) and suddenly none of that seems to matter! But hey, that’s the way it goes sometimes – to quote Maverick (and of course the OG Viper), “there will be others.” Whether you take these or other recommendations, keep grinding and keep the long game in sight.
Disclaimer time! Now that real, live football is upon us, I need to clarify the overarching rationale behind my advice. As you’re well aware by the fact you’ve come to a website entitled dynastyleaguefootball.com, we’re still taking a long view into account in addition to each player’s weekly (and year-to-date) output. Therefore and for example, when I say a player is a “buy high,” it’s not solely due to the week he just had. Instead, guidance will also take into account his current stature in tools such as DLF’s ADP and rankings, in addition to how he performed.
Much as in previous iterations of this weekly series, I will list one player apiece who I’ve bucketed into the following categories:
One last note, as I’m referencing DLF ADP and rankings, advice herein is for a 12-team, non-superflex setting with full PPR scoring. Divergent league settings (both for starting positions and scoring) hopefully shouldn’t render this advice as not actionable, but it’s an important disclaimer nonetheless.
With that preamble in hand, here are the tactical transactions you should consider before week six:
Week 5 Line: 16-56-1, 1-9-0 (1 target)
Following a lackluster first week where the Chiefs were upset by the Detroit Lions (though that has begun to look better in hindsight), Pacheco has compiled 370 total yards and three scores, including seven receptions. This has led to an average of 15.5 weekly PPR points over that timeframe, and a current standing as the PPR RB12. Owners who bought in during the off-season or early going of 2023’s regular season are being rewarded with RB1-level output for RB3 cost.
