In case you are reading this, there is one bit of information to know before you start reading names. Just like last year’s series, we will be utilizing player rostership percentages, courtesy of real dynasty rosters from 1,700 MFL leagues. While this may not be entirely accurate for every individual league, it is very reflective of how managers view who is worthy or not of a roster spot. Now that that’s covered, let’s dive into the waiver wire after week 13!

Players to double-check availability and immediately add:

Mike White, QB NYJ

Is Mike White legit? Seriously. Because in the four games he has started and finished, he has put up 28 points, 24 points, 16, and 6 – an average of 19 points per game. Two of those games were last year on a worse Jets team, too. If White keeps playing like this and takes the Jets into the playoffs, I think there’s a strong case that they just roll into 2023 with him as the starter again and continue building around him. Worst-case scenario: they’ve built their team up and you just insert a quarterback into the mix in 2024, like what Denver tried to do. Or, White is actually good and you have your starting quarterback on probably a REALLY cheap deal.

So, if White is still available in your league, which he’s available in 14% of superflex leagues on MFL and probably more on Sleeper, I would be spending EVERYTHING I have left to go get him. This could be a Davis Mills situation, which obviously didn’t pan out this year, but you could’ve sold Mills for a second in superflex leagues all summer, so there’s your out if you’re betting against White. Or, best-case scenario, you found a Tony Romo or Kick Cousins just right off the waiver wire.

Brock Purdy, QB SF

The other quarterback to mention this week is Purdy and I’ll be honest, I don’t want to pick up Purdy, there’s just no upside here. Are you going to play him in your fantasy playoffs? I really hope not. Are you holding him for next year? Definitely not. Unless your trade deadline hasn’t passed or you don’t have a deadline and you think you can flip Purdy for like a third or even a fourth this week, then fine, add him. But I don’t want to waste FAAB or a waiver priority for him, save that for someone actually worth it.

Zonovan Knight, RB NYJ

Going back to this Jets offense, we got more answers on Knight this week, as he totaled nearly 120 yards on 20 touches, including five receptions. James Robinson was active, but was basically irrelevant with four carries and Ty Johnson worked exclusively as a pass-catcher. This is Knight’s backfield as long as Michael Carter is out. When Carter returns, Knight probably still has a role, but he won’t be startable for fantasy.

The Jets also play in Buffalo this week, so even if Carter is out, Knight is a tough play against a really good rush defense. However, the Jets end the season with Detroit, Jacksonville, and Seattle for the fantasy playoffs, all good/great matchups for running backs, so if Carter misses any of those games, fire up your Knights.

DeeJay Dallas, RB and Tony Jones, RB SEA

You know at this point, if you’ve been reading this article for the past month or so and DeeJay Dallas is still on your waiver wire, I don’t know what to say! It’s not like I have been preaching to grab handcuffs for so long and first it was Samaje Perine, then Travis Etienne had an injury scare and JaMycal Hasty did well, and now Kenneth Walker has an ankle injury and DeeJay Dallas is the next man up. To be fair, Dallas was in and out of this week’s game with injuries himself, which is why I included Tony Jones in here too, but if you’re choosing between the two, it’s DeeJay Dallas (mainly because Jones is not good).

Jordan Mason, RB SF

The specific handcuff I want to highlight picking up this week before their starter goes down is Mason. Much to my dismay, Elijah Mitchell was placed on IR (again), leaving Mason as the primary backup to Christian McCaffrey. He looked really good on Sunday as the change-of-pace back for the Niners, totaling 51 yards on eight carries. Since Mitchell is out for at least three more weeks and Tyrion Davis-Price looks like an afterthought at this point, Mason could be an extremely valuable pickup for contending teams in case McCaffrey were to get hurt. We have years of data that shows us whoever is the main RB1 in this Niners backfield will be fantasy-viable, and if Mason finds himself in that role, he could be the difference between you advancing in the playoffs or getting booted.

But since we’re here, let me just take this time now to re-emphasize AGAIN the importance of grabbing handcuffs at this point in the season, regardless if you have the starter. If any of these players are on your waivers, add them:
