Sanders, Hubbard teeter on the edge of oblivion

Miles Sanders RB CAR
By: Apr 26: 7:38 PM EST

With the early selection of RB Jonathon Brooks (in a trade up, no less), the Panthers seem to have consolidated their backfield.

Dynasty Analysis

Both Miles Sanders and Chuba Hubbard will have a little more time in the sun as Brooks rehabs his torn ACL and gets back into playing shape. But make no mistake, the move to draft Brooks signals an intention in Carolina to feature him in the running game. Sanders will be in the most peril, considering his cap hit, but both backs could be cap casualties and, in the meantime, will serve as backups to Brooks once he is healthy.

Jonathon Brooks drafted by Carolina

Jonathon Brooks RB CAR
By: Apr 26: 7:18 PM EST

The Panthers traded up in the second round to select Texas running back Jonathon Brooks.

Dynasty Analysis

It's a good landing spot for Brooks, who looks like a player who has a skillset of a premier running back in the NFL. He'll need to get healthy and return from a late season ACL tear but the Panthers are likely playing the long game here. With Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders not doing much to impress, it's hard to see Brooks not grabbing the top spot on the depth chart as soon as his knee will cooperate. Dynasty managers are also going to need to exhibit some patience here with Brooks as well but he still looks like a late first round rookie pick.

Ja'Lynn Polk drafted by New England

Ja'Lynn Polk WR NE
By: Apr 26: 6:41 PM EST

The Patriots drafted Washington wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Dynasty Analysis

As expected, Polk was drafted right in the middle of a big receiver run in the NFL Draft, going to the Patriots early in round two. He was the tenth receiver taken but amazingly the 37th overall pick, which just shows the depth of this draft. Polk lands in a desirable spot as the Patriots depth chart at receiver is a mess. He'll need to grow together with Drake Maye but some patience could be rewarded here. Polk looks like a pretty solid pick in round two of conventional rookie drafts.

Herbert wins again with the Chargers' second pick

Justin Herbert QB LAC
By: Apr 26: 6:39 PM EST

After getting a new left tackle in round one, Justin Herbert's stock continues to rise as the Chargers trade up for Ladd McConkey.

Dynasty Analysis

Even after the team used it's fifth overall pick to protect Herbert's blindside, skepticism remained due to a lack of weaponry. But the Chargers moved up three spots to acquire a new top pass catcher (and Keenan Allen replacement in the slot), Ladd McConkey. The Chargers likely aren't done building the offense around Herbert, but with just those two draft picks, the franchise has made their quarterback a dynasty value. DLF's QB6 has QB1 overall upside with his own skillset and a little help from his supporting cast.

Travis Kelce benefits from Worthy pick

Travis Kelce TE KC
By: Apr 26: 6:29 PM EST

Kelce is the sneaky winner of the defending champs' first round selection of WR Xavier Worthy.

Dynasty Analysis

Adding another burner opposite Marquise "Hollywood" Brown gives the Chiefs the fastest receiving corps in the league. While neither WR expects to command an overwhelming target share, the biggest benefactor will be TE Travis Kelce as he operates in the wide open spaces of the middle of the field. Kelce's dynasty value has been creeping downward due to his age (34), dropping from his long time throne as QB1 all the way to QB6 in DLF's dynasty rankings. With the field-stretching speedsters on the perimeter opening up the field, Kelce is a virtual lock to outperform most of the tight ends currently ranked ahead of him.

Ladd McConkey drafted by the Chargers

Ladd McConkey WR LAC
By: Apr 26: 6:24 PM EST

Ladd McConkey was drafted by the Chargers with the second pick of the second round in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Dynasty Analysis

McConkey was taken early in the second round by the suddenly receiver-needy Chargers. A precise route runner with serious quickness, McConkey is going to be thrown into action early and often this season. He had a meteoric rise after the NFL Draft Combine and that, combined with a great landing spot, should keep him right around the turn of rounds one and two in rookie drafts.

Keon Coleman drafted by Buffalo

Keon Coleman WR BUF
By: Apr 26: 6:20 PM EST

The Buffalo Bills drafted FSU wide receiver Keon Coleman with the first pick of the second round in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Dynasty Analysis

Coleman was shut out of the first round but landed in a great spot, taken with the first pick of the second round by the Buffalo Bills. It's a dream scenario for Coleman, who lands with an elite quarterback in dire need of new weapons after losing so many this off-season. Coleman has work to do for sure but his landing spot is going to place him in the first round of virtually every rookie draft.

New weapon for Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence QB JAC
By: Apr 26: 6:17 PM EST

The 23rd overall pick in the draft, Brian Thomas, Jr., gives Trevor Lawrence a premier downfield threat.

Dynasty Analysis

After losing Calvin Ridley to free agency, Lawrence was facing a dearth of receiving options like he hadn't seen in his three year career. Bringing in Brian Thomas, Jr. may even prove to be an upgrade for Lawrence as he looks to bounce back from a disappointing season. Lawrence was able to maintain a top 10 ranking among DLF rankers, but has been closer to dropping below his QB9 rank than rising back into the top five. The selection of Thomas might not move the needle for Lawrence's immediate dynasty value, but should give him every opportunity to outperform his projections.

Xavier Legette drafted by Carolina

Xavier Legette WR CAR
By: Apr 25: 11:04 PM EST

The Carolina Panthers selected wide receiver Xavier Legette with the final pick of round one in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Dynasty Analysis

The Carolina Panthers moved up and secured the final pick of round one to draft Legette 32nd overall. It's a tricky landing spot for his value as he'll have an immediate chance for playing time but also a project being paired with a quarterback who has a whole lot of question marks moving forward. Legette looks like a boom or bust rookie draft pick who will likely go in round two of most rookie drafts moving forward.

Ricky Pearsall drafted by the 49ers.

Ricky Pearsall WR SF
By: Apr 25: 10:58 PM EST

The San Francisco 49ers drafted Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Dynasty Analysis

A major pre-draft riser, Pearsall ended up going late in round one to the San Francisco 49ers. It ends a crazy period where his workouts and a final review of his tape truly put Pearsall on the map. This is a great landing spot for him as well as it looks like the futures of both Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk could be in question. While some patience may be needed here, Pearsall will be used creatively in the offense and his draft stock should rise all the way up to the second round as a result.
