Dynasty Fantasy Football Trading Post: 2025 First-Round Pick

Russ Fisher

The NFL Draft is less than a month away. This means if you are a degenerate like us then your rookie drafts are coming soon too. With every day that passes, your 2024 rookie picks are getting more valuable and more tempting to trade. But that’s not what we are going to be talking about!

The problem we face when getting close to rookie drafts is hope. People look at the incoming rookies with stars in their eyes and dreams of what they can do in the league. This can make it very hard to trade for a rookie pick in this year’s draft. Sometimes the right move is to pivot away from the here and now and focus on the future. The 2025 NFL Draft is a year away and so many things in your league, in the NFL, and the world, will change by then. At least that is what you will tell the other managers in your league when you try and trade for their 2025 first-round rookie picks.

Now is the perfect time to go against the grain, zag while others are zigging, and other cliches that mean don’t do what everyone else is doing. While everyone is stuck in their rose-colored 2024 rookie glasses, you are going to start stocking up on next year’s picks. Acquiring as many future first-round picks now will set you up for next season with all the ammo you need to either rebuild that burned-down roster or trade for the studs you need to make the run on the championship.

… Or!

Maybe you are a little like me and patience is not a virtue you possess. Sure, stocking up on those future picks can set you up with a strong foundation of value to build your dynasty upon but what good does that do me now?! There are no doubt people in your league who will be in the previous mindset, so why not take advantage? You don’t want to wait an entire year to see where that draft pick is going to be and what possible dart throw you will make when drafting a rookie. Just like Veruca Salt and myself, you want it now!

Let’s look at the DLF Trade Finder and Trade Analyzer to see what some trades involving 2025 firsts are looking like.

Usually, when trading out of one draft and into the next, I would want something thrown on top of the future first. But at pick nine in a one-quarterback league, this feels like a nice pivot point. The 2024 pick is ninth out of sixteen which means there is a decent chance that the random future first could be earlier than the ninth pick. If you find yourself in the situation at your late first pick and there isn’t anyone you feel the need to draft, making the move to next season is a great strategy. But as usual, the reverse works here. If the ninth pick hits the clock and there is a player on the board you really want I would easily throw my future first pick at the manager to go and get that player.

12 team, SF, PPR, TE premium, start 10.

One of the overarching themes of these off-season articles is that if you want to load your rosters with players who score a lot of points, the best time to do it is when they aren’t scoring points. This can only be a team that decided it was time to blow it all up and start over. Just to be sure I checked out this league and this team made the playoffs this year so that future first isn’t guaranteed early at all. It seems like such an easy decision to grab those Rams by the horns and pull them onto your roster.

I am not the biggest Brock Purdy fan. He is a good quarterback on a very good offense. But if you are telling me I can send a random future first and get a guy who just finished QB6 in points per game and is young and on that good offense. I do that all day.

Whether you are looking to go all in, blow it all up, or somewhere in between, the important thing is to stay active. Always look around your league and see what moves you can try to make your roster better. Send out some offers just to keep communication open and sometimes you might just get someone to accept sending you Purdy for your 2025 first.
