Four Quarterbacks to Buy, Sell, or Hold in Dynasty Leagues
Welcome to the 'Buy, Sell, or Hold' series where each week I’ll be focusing on one position to analyze four players and what we should be doing with them. This week we’re back to talking about quarterbacks and I’ve got four who haven’t lived up to expectations recently.
Justin Fields, QB CHI – Hold
In his third year, and with the addition of DJ Moore, Fields was actually worse as a fantasy quarterback than he was in 2022, dropping from 19.7 points per game to 17.7. Even if you remove week six in which he left early with injury, his PPG only rises to 18.8.
Many had hopes Fields would be able to ascend to top-five status. Maybe this is just who he is. The rushing will always mean his fantasy floor will be high but without improvement as a passer, he could just live in the mid to low-end QB1 conversation as long as he’s starting. That’s okay though. Fields is a player who will likely always, or for at least as long as we care about, be starting somewhere.
Chicago or not, Fields will be a starting QB in 2024. Any team trading for Fields - which would presumably happen if the Bears take a quarterback with the first overall pick - will be trading for him to be their starting quarterback.
The Move - Fields is the definition of a hold. Everyone knows the ceiling he possesses so managers have no interest in selling for less than full market price yet at the same time no one else wants to buy for that same price because of the uncertainty about where he’ll be playing in 2024. I have faith that no matter what team Fields is with, he’ll be QB1 for fantasy and would buy if I could find the discount. I just don’t believe a discount exists in most leagues.
