NFC IDP Snap Counts: Week Ten
There are only a handful of regular weeks left in the fantasy season. So keep fighting for those breakout players who you can rely on for a few games here and there.
Arizona Cardinals – 75 snaps
Rookie LB Zaven Collins (23) has now played a total of 33 snaps in his past three games. He’s played just 190 snaps all season long. Sure, there have been knocks and injuries, but he’s played in all ten games. He’s just not ready to be a full-time player yet.
Isaiah Simmons and Jordan Hicks (both 75) played every snap.
Atlanta Falcons – 77 snaps
Safety Richie Grant (33) played the second-most he has in a game as a pro. Of his 128 snaps for the season, 89 have been in the slot. Even with Jaylinn Hawkins out Grant was the clear third man behind Duron Harmon (70) and Erik Harris (33).
Edge rusher Dante Fowler (31) returned to health after three weeks out. The Falcons remain one of the very worst pass-rushing teams in the league.
Carolina Panthers – 55 snaps
The Panthers have averaged just 62 snaps per game – the lowest in the NFL this season.
LB Shaq Thompson (43) finally reclaimed his role as the premier LB on the team (following his injury) but Jermaine Carter (37) was not far behind. Thompson had a savage sack that made him a good IDP this week, but his 48 average snaps per game are extremely disappointing.
Corner is interesting for the Panthers. Donte Jackson (51) is the lone full-time player. They seem to be trying to play corners situationally; similar to how the Patriots acted in 2020. This week A.J. Bouye (34), Keith Taylor (25), C.J. Henderson (22) and Stephon Gilmore (13) all also saw action.
Given the team traded for Henderson and Gilmore, their lack of usage is a little puzzling. They’ve had a total of seven games as Panthers, and neither of them has yet played 25 snaps in a week.
Chicago Bears
The Bears enjoyed their bye this week.
Dallas Cowboys – 54 snaps
The Cowboys took the opportunity to rest and rotate some players in a blow-out win.
Micah Parsons (40) has been the only full-time LB and he was sat down early. Leighton Vander Esch (20) and Keanu Neal (25) are nowhere near getting that sort of volume.
At safety Donovan Wilson (51) led the unit in playing time. 31 of his snaps were deep as he mainly filled in for Damontae Kazee (26). Jayron Kearse (39) and Malik Hooker (18) had severely reduced workloads.
DE Randy Gregory is out hurt, so Tarell Basham (40), Chauncey Golston (31) and Dorance Armstrong (38) picked up the slack.
Detroit Lions – 86 snaps
The Lions played a high amount in their tie against the Steelers.
Safety Will Harris (80) led the unit by some distance after Tracey Walker (47) was injured. Walker should return next week. Dean Marlowe (50) and Jalen Elliott (17) filled the gap.
The Lions are the very worst pass-rushing team in the league. On the edge this week we saw Da’Shawn Hand (67) play an enormous amount – even though he’s missed virtually the whole season so far. He played on the inside at times, but this was a weird decision. Trey Flowers (53), Julian Okwara (36) and Charles Harris (68) all saw the field too.
Rookie LB Derrick Barnes continues to be a work in progress. He played just 15 snaps this week with Alex Anzalone (86) and Jalen Reeves-Maybin (56) dominating time.
Green Bay Packers – 61 snaps
Rookie corner Eric Stokes (60) returned after a week out. Nickel Chandon Sullivan (61), Rasul Douglas (42) and Kevin King (20) rounded out the unit.
Mainly this has been a very consistent defense in playing time and personnel though.
Notably the team racked up an extraordinary 32 pressures against the returning Russell Wilson – but turned only three of them into sacks.
Los Angeles Rams – 68 snaps
Von Miller made his Rams debut on the edge. He played 45 snaps. Leonard Floyd (51) was largely ineffective on the other side.
Ernest Jones (56) nosed Troy Reeder (52) at LB. This is the seventh straight week a different LB has led the team in snaps.
Minnesota Vikings – 59 snaps
With Harrison Smith still injured, Camryn Bynum continues to partner Xavier Woods (both 67) at safety. Bynum is a cornerback on some platforms so he’s a potential cheat-code while he holds the job.
LB Anthony Barr missed the game hurt. He’s one of the most inefficient players in IDP, so it was no great loss to us. Nick Vigil (59) filled in again.
New Orleans Saints – 60 snaps
DE Marcus Davenport (46) recorded two sacks this week. He had one last week too. He’s playing okay, but bear in mind he has just four pressures in that period. Obviously, he cannot continue to covert 75% into sacks so regression is likely coming unless he can play much better. On the plus side, he’s way ahead of Tanoh Kpassagnon (13) and Carl Granderson (9).
Demario Davis (60) has dominated playing time as expected. He’s played 573 snaps for the season so far. Pete Werner (25) has 267, Kwon Alexander (34) has 157 and Kaden Elliss (23) has 161. This Saints defense only supports one LB. This has been the case for years – and every season someone gets overhyped as the number two.
New York Giants
The Giants enjoyed their bye this week.
Philadelphia Eagles – 71 snaps
The LB situation has well and truly flipped. T.J. Edwards (54) has now played 161 snaps in the past three games. Alex Singleton (10) has just 41 in that time. It was fun while it lasted.
Davion Taylor (40) has been relatively productive but has played just 128 snaps in those same three games.
Seattle Seahawks – 74 snaps
The Seahawks are playing so much more than any other team. At the time of writing, they’ve averaged 76 snaps per game, which is five more than any other team, and around ten more than average. Extrapolated over a 17-game season, that means the Seahawks would play around 170 more snaps than average – which is the equivalent of nearly three extra games.
The chief beneficiaries are LB Bobby Wagner (74) who has played 681 snaps, corner D.J. Reed (74) who has played 651, and safeties Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs (both 74) who are on 681 and 672 snaps respectively.
The defensive line rotation remains impenetrable and one to avoid if possible.
San Francisco 49ers – 56 snaps
Jimmie Ward (55) returned at safety after missing last week. He managed to haul in two picks too, so it was a big week for him. Tavon Wilson lost his place and did not play, while Talanoa Hufanga (56) maintained his place.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 73 snaps
LB Devin White (73) finally had a huge game with two sacks and high tackles. That was great for all those who drafted him, but one spike week in ten is still very disappointing for those that invested serious capital into him.
Rookie edge Joe Tryon-Shoyinka (19) recorded a sack too from limited playing time. He’s still very firmly behind Shaquil Barrett (55) and Jason Pierre-Paul (58).
Washington Football Team – 48 snaps
Note the extremely low volume for this game.
This was a weirdly mixed game. They managed to sneak an upset win against the Buccaneers but saw both star edge defenders pick up serious injuries. Montez Sweat missed this week and has moved to IR, and Chase Young (12) seriously injured his knee and will miss the whole season. 2021 has been a disaster for him.
The next DEs up were James Smith-Williams (39) and Casey Toohill (29) with Shaka Toney and Olubunmi Rotimi (both 8) also seeing the field. Smith-Williams is well worth adding if you have roster space.
Cole Holcomb (48) continues to be the only full-time LB. Jamin Davis (27) should be sitting on the bench in most leagues.
Corner William Jackson III (48) returned from injury to play opposite Kendall Fuller (48).
At safety Bobby McCain (48), Kamren Curl (44) and Landon Collins (44) all played most of the game.
Thanks for reading and good luck with your playoff push.
