Trautman was still sitting on our wavier wire at the end of our season last year so I picked him up hoping I’d get lucky. Now I’m hoping to P/U Anthony Firkser in the 3rd round of our rookie draft this year with my 3.1 or 3.5 pick since I like using the 3rd round for possible sleepers. I don’t see any reason to pick a 3rd round rookie with my bench players that I have now.

I have the following TEs on my dynasty roster: Kittle, L. Thomas, OJ Howard and Trautman. I have to cut 2 before the season (I have 11 picks to add to the team and determined 2 TEs must go) so I am most likely trading or dropping Thomas and Howard. Unlike WRs, TEs usually do not come into the league as rookies and contribute enough to be fantasy relevant. Some like L. Thomas take years (he is 30 now) until he gets into the right situation. I don’t want to drop any of them but I am taking a chance on Trautman’s upside. The biggest variable appears to be the saints offense post-Breeze. I liked Trautman coming out of college and believe, if given a chance, he will produce, especially in the red zone. I wanted to draft him last year (I only had 6 picks in our 4 round draft) but he went undrafted and I he was my first pick up at the beginning of last season.

Logan Thomas took years because he didn’t convert to TE until he was 25.
