Devy Stock Market

Nathan Powell

The fantasy football stock market is constantly fluctuating and it is always important for us to stay on top of player stocks going up and downs. In devy stock market, each week I cover the best and worst performances of the week and how they impact the value of these players in devy fantasy football leagues.

Patterson Power – Jaret Patterson, RB Buffalo

Patterson’s devy stock was up before the first quarter of last week’s game ended. He had 156 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter against Kent State. Patterson ended the game with 36 carries for 409 yards and eight touchdowns and that is after 301 yards and four touchdowns the previous week at Bowling Green, meaning in the last two games he has averaged 355 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

Patterson is playing his way into being a day two pick in the NFL draft. If you are in a deeper devy league where he is rostered, the owner who has him may be scoffing at the lesser competition, but the competition isn’t the only reason for Patterson’s gaudy numbers, it’s also his skill. As long as he stays healthy, Patterson will end this season with his third consecutive 1,000-yard season with touchdown numbers of 14, 20, and now 16 in only four games.

Chuba Who? – Chuba Hubbard and Dezmon Jackson, RB Oklahoma State

Chuba Hubbard has not had the 2020 he expected after returning to Oklahoma State. First, of course, is the abbreviated season due to COVID-19, but then the lackluster production and battling injuries have not helped Hubbard either. He had three straight games below 80 yards rushing and is now out with an ankle injury. After five performances above eight yards per carry in 2019, Hubbard has just one game above six yards per carry in 2020. His stock has not only been hurt by his own performance, but also by the success of his backup.

With Hubbard out against Texas Tech, Dezmon Jackson had a career game with 235 rushing yards on 6.5 yards per carry, and three touchdowns. The sophomore back has shown enough that if and when Hubbard returns, it will be much more of a split backfield than before Hubbard’s slump and subsequent injury. Jackson is a player to watch the rest of this season as he looks to be the RB1 for Oklahoma State in 2021.

Erik Does The Trick – Erik Ezukanma, WR Texas Tech

Ezukanma has been one of the best deep threats in college football in recent weeks, averaging 24.8 yards per catch in the last three weeks for Texas Tech. The 6’3” 220-pound wideout had the best game of his career last week against Oklahoma State with seven catches for 183 receiving yards and two touchdowns. With this being his first big performance, this junior is likely not a candidate to enter the NFL draft, but he is worth looking at in deeper devy leagues.

Kyren Keeps Cooking – Kyren Williams, RB Notre Dame

Williams could have a weekly blurb in this article, he has been that good in 2020. Against North Carolina, Williams had his fifth 100-yard rushing game and his fifth game with multiple touchdowns on the season, rushing for two and receiving one to go with 144 scrimmage yards against the Tar Heels.

Williams is the RB1 for me in 2022 over Breece Hall and Isaiah Spiller who are also having impressive seasons of their own. Williams will be one of the most coveted assets in devy fantasy football this off-season.

Likely Under The Radar – Isaiah Likely, TE Coastal Carolina

Likely is probably not a player you’ve had on your devy radar, but he has been one of the best big-play receivers in all of college football this season. He is second in all of college football in yards per catch with 24.9 yards per catch. He has eclipsed 70 receiving yards in four of his last six games, including being above 30 yards per catch in three of those four games.

Likely’s size and production at the non-power five-level is reminiscent of Dallas Goedert in recent years. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Likely commit for the draft after an impressive junior season, and if he stays in college, he will be an intriguing option in TE premium devy leagues.

Adams Aims Higher – Jonathan Adams, WR Arkansas State

Another small school prospect who has been impressive throughout the season is Adams. The 6’3” 220-pound senior has 95 or more receiving yards in eight of ten games this season, including 19 catches for 279 receiving yards and four touchdowns in the last two weeks. Adams was unimpressive in his first three college seasons, failing to eclipse 900 yards with a high of five touchdowns, however, an impressive senior season with 1,111 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns could play his way into being a late day two NFL draft pick, especially if he has a good combine and/or pro day to help his draft stock.

Add Adams to the growing list of intriguing adds for rookie drafts in devy leagues. With the abbreviated season, I thought that rookie drafts in devy leagues would be thin, but this is looking like one of the deeper drafts in recent memory for rookie drafts in devy leagues.
