Fantasy Stat Pack: Week Four
If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably noticed a series of tweets I share on a weekly basis regarding player and team defensive performances, all from a fantasy lens. I’m going to be sharing some of that same information with you here.
I use this each week as I am making my own lineup and waiver wire decisions and thought you might find this valuable as well.
Note: The scoring system used for this data is always PPR with four points for passing touchdowns.
All year to date fantasy ranks are based on total points.

In Los Angeles, Jameis Winston and Jared Goff put on an offensive show, combining for six passing touchdowns as the Bucs held on for a huge road win. For only the third time in his career, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes failed to throw a touchdown, though he did lead his team to a last-minute comeback win and still eked out a QB1 week.

Week Four brought a major shakeup among the top twelve fantasy quarterbacks. While the top tier remains mostly unchanged, the Bills defense shut down Tom Brady and he fell from QB5 to outside of the QB1 range. Other fallers included Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, Case Keenum and Andy Dalton. I get the feeling we won’t see Keenum or Dalton back in the top twelve.
That left five spots for previous QB2s to make the jump. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford climbed up to QB7, with questionable options Marcus Mariota and Jacoby Brissett holding down the QB8 and QB9 spots. Jameis Winston turned his Week Four QB1 game to become the QB11 for the season and veteran Philip Rivers narrowly earned the QB12 hole for the season.

The Dolphins have allowed a QB1 in every week this season, but that streak will end this week. Miami is on bye this week. With the Lions also resting this week, that leaves a handful of teams as the next targets, having allowed three QB1 games each. The Saints have allowed over 29 fantasy points per game and face the red-hot Winston and the Bucs offense this week. Other juicy matchups include Arizona (vs. Dalton), Atlanta (vs. Deshaun Watson), the Giants (vs. Kirk Cousins) and Philadelphia (vs. the Jets quarterback of the week.)
Amazingly, there are still eight teams who have yet to allow a QB1 game and it will be difficult to avoid all of these matchups. The Bills will look to shut down Mariota, while Carolina gets fan-favorite rookie Gardner Minshew. Others include Chicago (vs. Derek Carr), Denver (vs. Philip Rivers), Minnesota (vs. Daniel Jones), New England (vs. Dwayne Haskins?), Seattle (vs. Jared Goff) and Tennessee (vs. Josh Allen/Matt Barkley.)
Running Backs

RB9 | Jaylen Samuels, PIT |
RB10 | David Johnson, ARI |
RB11 | Dalvin Cook, MIN |
RB12 | Darrel Williams, KC |
Browns running back Nick Chubb exploded for his first ever overall RB1 week, leading Cleveland to an upset win over the Ravens. With star back Saquon Barkley out, backup Wayne Gallman scored twice and was very involved in the passing game. The Bengals allowed a pair of Steelers to crack the top twelve and Todd Gurley final had a big fantasy performance, though he did it on just five carries.

Dalvin Cook was slowed down slightly by the Bears dominant defense, falling from RB1 to RB3, while Chubb’s huge performance moved him from the bottom of this list at RB12 to RB4. Le’Veon Bell was on a bye this week and fell out of the top twelve, along with Marlon Mack and Phillip Lindsay. Those three were replaced by Leonard Fournette, Aaron Jones and James Conner.

The Bengals have pulled off the near-impossible, allowing seven RB1 performances in only four games. This week, they face the Arizona Cardinals and star back David Johnson. You don’t need me to tell you to fire him up! With the Dolphins and Lions on bye, that leaves the Broncos and Texans as the next targets. Denver faces their AFC West rival Chargers, who should be ready to see what former holdout Melvin Gordon can do now that he’s back with the team. The Texans face the Falcons and veteran back Devonta Freeman, who could be in for a breakout game.
The Patriots and 49ers have not allowed an RB1 game yet this season. That is unlikely to change for New England as they visit the Redskins, who are relying on the duo of Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson with second-year back Derrius Guice out. The Niners face a tougher matchup as they host the Browns and Chubb, coming off his best career game. The Jaguars (vs. Christian McCaffrey) and Buccaneers (vs. Alvin Kamara) have only given up one RB1 game in the first month but will face their respective toughest test of the season on Sunday.
Wide Receivers
Week Three WR1s (top 12 scorers)

WR8 | Kenny Golladay, DET |
WR9 | Corey Davis, TEN |
WR10 | Mike Evans, TB |
WR11 | Michael Thomas, NO |
WR12 | Mohamed Sanu, ATL |
In a week that he was questionable to even play, few saw the career-best game from Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin coming. Godwin had 15 targets and caught 12 of them including a pair of touchdowns. Another surprise was the Titans offense, which supported a pair of top-12 receivers as Corey Davis and AJ Brown combined for over 180 yards and three scores.

Not only did we see major turnover among the top-12 receivers, but even three of the top five from the previous week changed. Chargers receiver Keenan Allen retained his overall WR1 spot, but Sammy Watkins, Amari Cooper and TY Hilton fell from the top-five scorers, replaced by Cooper Kupp, up for WR6 and Bucs teammates Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, who wasn’t even in the WR1 range last week. Along with Hilton, John Ross and Terry McLaurin fell out of the top twelve, replaced by Kenny Golladay and Emmanuel Sanders.

The Eagles have been in some high-scoring games in this short season and they’ve surrendered a half-dozen WR1 games already. This week, they face the Jets, who are coming off a bye. While Robby Anderson has big-play ability and Jamison Crowder can rack up the targets, without quarterback Sam Darnold, the Eagles might be off the hook this week. The Raiders (vs. Allen Robinson), Buccaneers (vs. Michael Thomas) and Redskins (vs. Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon) have each allowed five WR1 games through four games.
The Bills, Packers and Patriots have given up just one WR1 game each, making for weekly tough matchups. In Week Five, Buffalo faces the Titans and look to slow down the duo of Davis and Brown. The Packers face Dallas and Amari Cooper and the Pats get the Redskins, who played without exciting rookie Terry McLaurin last week.
Tight Ends

TE10 | Darren Waller, OAK |
TE11 | Jack Doyle, IND |
TE12 | Foster Moreau, OAK |
Last week brought a few surprises at the top including veteran Jimmy Graham at TE3 and Ricky Seals-Jones, a longtime dynasty favorite, getting a chance with the Browns. One player that shouldn’t be a surprise is Seahawks second-year tight end Will Dissly. Dissly was already trending in the right direction and that was before Seattle dealt away his primary competition, Nick Vannett.

Despite another TE1 game from Oakland’s Darren Waller, the breakout star fell from TE3 to TE5. He still has yet to find the end zone this season. Veterans Greg Olsen and Delanie Walker fell two spots while Dissly and Austin Hooper were rising. Geroge Kittle’s bye cost him a TE1 spots as did Vance McDonald’s injury. Somehow, TJ Hockenson and Jordan Akins found their way into the top twelve, which say more about the overall tight end position than it does those two players.

The Cardinals have allowed a top-two fantasy performance each week this season. Next up is the Bengals, who have been using Tyler Eifert as their prime receiving threat at the position. The Buccaneers are the other team that gives it up to opposing tight ends, which could finally allow Saints veteran Jared Cook to have a good game. The Colts (vs. Travis Kelce) and Titans (vs. Dawson Knox) are other matchups to track.
The Texans, Patriots and Jets are the three teams that have yet to surrender a top-twelve scoring week to tight ends. This week, Houston faces the Falcons and last week’s TE1 Hooper, the Patriots should demolish the Redskins, who have been starting veteran Vernon Davis with Jordan Reed on the shelf. Finally, the Jets are back from their bye to face the Eagles and Zach Ertz.
Finally, here is the chart summarizing how teams have fared against each position.
