DLF’s 2016 IDP Predictions: Most Undervalued Player

Eric Olinger

I love this time of year. Even though most of our dynasty league drafts have long come and gone, there’s plenty of maneuvering to do through the month of August and into September. My favorite articles to read anywhere, not just at DLF, are roundtable type of articles. It’s awesome to hear the opinions of many fantasy football analysts when they’re asked the same question in the same context. The IDP team at DLF was asked to give their answers to who they thought would finish 2016 as the:

  • Fantasy IDP MVP
  • Fantasy IDP Rookie of the Year
  • Most Overvalued Dynasty IDP Player
  • Most Undervalued Dynasty IDP Player
  • Fantasy IDP Sleeper
  • Best Dynasty IDP Buy
  • Best Dynasty IDP Sell
  • Fantasy IDP Comeback Player of the Year

Arik Armstead, DE SF– Armstead only notched two sacks as a rookie, but had 31 quarterback hurries on only 384 snaps. He seems poised for a significant uptick in playing time and should convert a few of those hurries into more sacks. He is a double-digit sack threat. – Alex Onuschco

Demario Davis, LB, CLE– Davis found himself a great landing spot with very little competition. With how bad that defense will be for the next couple of years, he should be a tackling machine. –Dan Saino

Jabaal Sheard, DE NE. There was little interest paid in Sheard signing with the Patriots as a free agent, but he was quietly the DE6 in average scoring in 2015. With Chandler Jones gone and an aging Rob Ninkovich already nicked up, Sheard should see another boost in value. – Jaron Foster

Frank Clark, DE SEA- Frank Clark is still undervalued despite his significant upside as a 4-3 defensive end. He’ll be in a heavy rotation with Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett, but with Bruce Irvin out of the picture, Clark should see a nice bump in snaps, especially in passing situations. In limited action as a rookie, he flashed nicely, which bodes well for his long-term development. –Steve Wyremski

Danny Trevathan, ILB CHI- I really like Danny T on his new squad, he comes in as potentially the best defender on the team and should completely eat this year. I’m not worried about Jerrell Freeman all that much because Trevathan was plenty productive in a very talented Denver defense. If he stays on the field, expect big things. –Adam Tzikas

Von Miller, SLB DEN- Maybe it’s just because I play in more big play scoring IDP leagues, but I find Von Miller to be tremendously undervalued by the dynasty community. In big play leagues, he’s at least a LB2. It’s time he got a bit more love. –Zach Bahnerwright

KJ Wright, WLB SEA- Bobby Wagner gets most of the IDP fanfare, but KJ Wright keeps putting up respectable production.  He’s a great get if you miss on your top targets. –Trevor Bucher

Christian Kirksey, ILB CLE- Kirksey is not a world beater but he’s always around the ball making plays. He played 54.2 percent of the snaps last season, expect that total to increase a little, allowing him more opportunities to get tackles. –Bruce Matson

Blake Martinez, ILB GB- Blake Martinez hasn’t even played a regular season snap in the NFL so why is he undervalued? Well, he appears ready to step into a starting role and can be had on the waivers in many IDP leagues. Grab him, stash him and enjoy the points that come rolling in very soon. –TheFFGhost

Christian Kirksey, ILB CLE- With his path to full time snaps finally clear following the departure of Karlos Dansby and Craig Robertson, Kirksey now shares the inside linebacking duties in Cleveland’s 3-4 with Demario Davis as the clear cut starter. Both of these linebackers will produce for your IDP roster, but Kirksey, in particular, has a chance to make a big jump forward from how he is presently viewed and valued. –Mo Brewington

Demario Davis, ILB CLE-  Demario Davis has always been on the verge of a stud IDP. The change in scenery and increase in tackle opportunities should lead to an increase in production! –Bill Edwards

Whitney Mercilus, OLB HOU- He doesn’t have the production of J.J. Watt or the name recognition of Jadeveon Clowney, but Mercilus is quietly one of the better pass-rushers on a defensive unit filled with them. If Watt comes back healthy and Clowney takes some pressure off of him on the opposite edge, Mercilus could put up big numbers for sack-heavy leagues. –Joseph Redemann

Tyvon Branch, S ARZ- Branch was once a lock for top five production at the safety position but a couple of lower leg injuries and a new team has since soured dynasty owners. Now in Arizona where they seemingly trip over elite IDP safeties, Branch will be asked to do what he does best, be an in-the-box dominator while Tyrann Mathieu flies around doing honey badger things. – Eric Olinger
