Devy Stock Market

The fantasy football stock market is constantly fluctuating and it is always important for us to know which players have a price that has become exploitable whether it be to buy or sell. Pieces like this one have been fairly commonplace in the industry for a while in both redraft and dynasty, but I will be focusing on college players for devy dynasty leagues and how their week-to-week performances are affecting their price in those leagues.

This week I will be covering a few Devy Dynasty Trades that give you a look at the current value of some college players in comparison with NFL players as we enter the stretch run before the fantasy playoffs.

From @FF_KenK on November 10th, Josh Doctson (TCU) for Stevie Johnson and Stefon Diggs

I made a similar deal in a league recently, sending Doctson and Jeremy Langford (before he broke out two weeks ago) for Stefon Diggs and Devin Smith. As for this deal, this a textbook win now trade in a devy league. Doctson has been one of the most explosive receivers in college football this season with 65 catches for 1,018 yards and 11 touchdowns and many project him to be a first round pick in the 2016 draft. I’ve said it here and on Twitter so many times I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but Doctson will be 23 in December and almost 24 before he takes NFL regular season snap. I like the Diggs side of this deal, you get a good young player in Diggs who has already proven he can play at the NFL level and Stevie Johnson who is a nice win now piece, particularly with Keenan Allen out for the year.

Fellow DLF’er Brian Bulmer made a pair of big boy Devy trades on November 4th and I will talk about them individually.

From @Brian_Bulmer Melvin Gordon, Tyler Lockett, Breshad Perriman and Malachi Dupre (LSU) for Dez Bryant, Latavius Murray and Charcandrick West.

The only devy player here is Malachi Dupre who many consider a top 5 devy asset, and I am Dupre fan like I talked about last week, but I think this trade is an easy win for Brian. When you break it down, I’ll take Dez Bryant over the trio of Dupre/Perriman/Lockett and Melvin Gordon for Latavius Murray and Charcandrick West is a fairly even swap, but the win now points are definitely on the Murray side.

From @Brian_Bulmer Amari Cooper, Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss) and a 2nd round devy pick for DeAndre Hopkins, Allen Robinson and Alex Collins (Arkansas).

This one is much closer, I value Cooper and Hopkins fairly evenly in dynasty, deciding which I prefer can change on daily basis. Laquon Treadwell and Allen Robinson are also very close. I think Treadwell is easily the 1.01 in 2016 rookie drafts in regular dynasty leagues. While Robinson is having a great sophomore season and I’m one of his biggest fans, I’d still lean towards Treadwell in a vacuum because I think he has the higher upside of the two. Alex Collins and a Devy 2nd are also close and can depend on the league format on how many devy players are rostered, in a situation like that, I tend to lead toward the asset that is closer to make an impact on your team, which in this case is Alex Collins.

A pair of trades from a @CoolHandCP3 league on November 13th

Brandin Cooks and a 2016 2nd round pick for D’haquille Williams (Formerly Auburn) and Kevin White.

Dhaquille Williams was dismissed from the Auburn program after multiple off the field issues during his college career. I like Williams’ talent, but the list of players who were dismissed from college teams who went on to succeed in the NFL and not have any off the field issues isn’t very long. So, I don’t value Williams that much at all, certainly not enough to bridge the gap from White who will be 24 years old when he plays his first NFL game and Cooks who has looked good for the Saints in recent weeks, making the 2nd round pick just a bonus.

Giovani Bernard, Devonta Freeman and D’haquille Williams (Formerly Auburn) for Dalvin Cook (FSU), Ezekiel Elliott (Ohio State), Tyrann Mathieu and a 2016 1st round rookie pick.

Dalvin Cook has been absolutely incredible this season for the Seminoles, per @JoshNorris, Cook owns a 74.6% market share of FSU’s rushing yards on just 50% of their carries and 10% of Cook’s runs have gone for 20+ yards. To sum up, Cook is really good. For the overall value of the trade, I lean toward the youth here. Bernard/Williams and 1st/Mathieu are relatively close in value, so if you look at Freeman versus Cook/Elliott, I definitely prefer the college backs as I see them having similar upside as Freeman currently and both will be seen as better prospects than Freeman was coming out.

Myfantasyleague.com pro tip- You can look through transactions on any MFL league that isn’t listed as private. So if you are ever wondering what type of trades are happening in a certain league format, just search “Devy” or “Superflex” or “IDP” and it will show you all the leagues that have those words in the title.

I found this one in a league called “World Fantasy Football Challenge Devy League” and we have yet another trade involving Dhaquille Williams. From November 17th, Davon Johnson (Marshall), Ricky Seals-Jones (Texas A&M) and D’haquille Williams  (Formerly Auburn) for Adrian Peterson.

All three college players have some NFL upside, but none of them have been set the world on fire this year and they likely won’t be top picks when they enter the NFL. I’m lower on Peterson than most in the dynasty, so while any of the three college players could end up being the best piece in this deal going forward, it isn’t a bad win now move to make when you can get a premium win now asset for a stretch run without giving up a blue chip prospect.
