Editor’s Note: This article is part of our Daily Content section in DLF. Daily leagues are growing in the fantasy community and we’ll cover them throughout the regular season. Remember, you can get a DLF Premium account free for a year (or your current subscription extended for a year) just by signing up with FanDuel and making an initial deposit. For more information on that special offer, click here.

As the season approaches, some of us lose the best part of our fantasy football season: the draft. Well, thanks to daily fantasy football leagues, we are able to draft a team every week and test ourselves against thousands of other players. The drafts take minutes, the lineups are easy, and the prizes can be huge. Here at DLF, we will share with you some of the best free tournaments that have amazing prizes to the winner.

freeroll1For those of you looking for advice on daily leagues, including those highlighted here, I urge you to check out the weekly series “Daily League Bargains” on DLF. It is a great resource for those of you looking for some sneaky additions to your daily lineups.

This is the last week of the regular season but hopefully everyone has enjoyed the series and gave daily fantasy a try.

Using my recommendations from the Optimized Lineup article, I entered the Fanduel freeroll in week 16. Let’s take a look at the lineup and some thoughts here:

  • History doesn’t repeat – The Lions went with a much more defensive approach to victory last week and the passing game was anemic. No one could have expected that against the Bears.
  • Running wild – Denver has been struggling in the passing game but J. Anderson has been rolling. This week was no different but here lies the difference in daily and dynasty. Anderson may just be a one year wonder, the type you love in daily but the kind you try to sell in dynasty.
  • Less than elite defense – Buffalo had been as consistent as they come. This result was a shocker against an Oakland team that has struggled all year.

Now, on to the freerolls for this week and a preview of my team that I will be “rolling” with in week 17.

FanDuel.com – $1,000 NFL Freeroll

As always, keep your eye out for a freeroll to release on Friday or Saturday morning. Overall, the contests have been very competitive (60,000 entry limit) with payouts to the top 500 lineups, but that can change weekly. Given that the DLF staff has several experts focusing on this daily site gives you an advantage over the field.

Victiv.com – TBD

As of the writing of this article, Victiv does not have any freerolls available. Since they have been one of the best sites at providing these contests, I will be monitoring them throughout the week to see if that changes.

Draftster.com – $500 NFL Freeroll

freeroll2This week, Draftster has a $500 freeroll. It is open to the first 1,000 entries and pays out the top 500 players. Given their bonuses for yardage, you don’t need to be as touchdown dependent in this format to win.

This will be the freeroll for the week. I went for players largely in matchups with playoff implications to avoid any elite guys sitting on teams who have already clinched their spot. Will be a fun one to watch.

Draftkings.com – $10 NFL Freeroll

Draftkings has their standard $10 freeroll for the NFL in addition to more for other sports. It covers the games starting Sunday so in the meantime, you could play their college football freerolls until then.

FantasyAces.com – $50 NFL Freeroll

This week, Fantasy Aces has a $50 freeroll with payouts to the top 20 scorers. They do employ two QBs which is a nice twist in the daily format. Week 17 wil make that a challenge as some key quarterbacks may get some rest in anticipation for the playoffs.

Draftday.com – Variety

Draftday still has a couple of freerolls they are doing weekly. The $1M perfect lineup contest continues and has smaller prizes for top finishers. There is also the 300 point target game where you are trying to get over the threshold. The pot is still floating at $1,500 yet again, which makes it among the largest freeroll contests.

Sportstradex.com – Variety

Sportstradex once again has a few “winner take all” NFL freerolls. They vary from the standard salary cap contest to the pick ‘em contests. They are pretty creative with their lineups and rules so be mindful as you enter into one of these.

Statclash.com – $10 NFL Freeroll

Statclash tends to prefer smaller freeroll contests both in terms of prize money and entrant size. This week they have their standard $10 freeroll that begins on Sunday. The lineups are pretty standard but they do penalize a little harder for interceptions and fumbles lost (-2) than most daily sites.

Fantasyscore.com

There are no freerolls on fantasyscore.com this week for the NFL but they do have an NBA freeroll. I consider this progress for the site and hopefully they will realize the benefit and introduce some for the NFL in 2015.

Reversefantasyfootball.com – $50 NFL Freeroll

There is the usual $50 freeroll that uses their unique reverse scoring methodology (think “Race to the Bottom”). It limits at 1,000 entrants with the top nine getting paid out. It is an interesting concept and the freeroll is a great way to introduce yourself before starting the paid leagues.

Scorestreak.com – $180 NFL Freeroll

The standard $180 weekly freeroll is available with unlimited entries with the top 100 being paid out. The game is a little quirky as you pick nine players to hit key thresholds and get points for each one you attain. It could be interesting this week given the potential for playoff teams resting players.

Next week, we will highlight some of the freerolls for week 17 of the season and I will provide a recap of my performance as well!
