Waiver Wire Advice: Week Nine

Ken Kelly

We’ll be covering some of the hot names on the majority of dynasty league waiver wires each week for our premium content members.  These players will likely be owned in a minority of dynasty leagues. We won’t waste your time with bigger names who are likely owned in your league like Marvin Jones, or the likely one week wonders like Dallas Clark or Vonta Leach because you guys are just too good for that.  We’re simply going to cover some players who could be targets this week if you have an open roster spot and are willing to throw a dart with the hope of getting lucky.

Mainstream waiver wire articles will be posted all over the Internet this week begging people to pick up obvious players, but our job is to give you information to make informed and educated decisions and stay ahead of the curve, not on it.

Just remember one other very important thing – you’re in a dynasty league, not a re-draft league. Don’t get too enamored by the one hit wonders and drop your young projects in a quest to find lightning in a bottle. Savvy dynasty league owners will tell you the best players on the wire each and every year end up being the ones dropped by impatient owners, not the ones who suddenly break out. We won’t repeat many names here, so check out the list from prior weeks as we move along.

With that being said, here are this week’s picks in order of priority:

1.) CJ Anderson, RB DEN

If you read the Sunday Morning Huddle each week, you would have found this name prior to this week’s game. Lucky for you, he didn’t break out with anything significant. What is significant is the fact he’s seemingly passed Ronnie Hillman on the depth chart. The fact the Broncos kept this undrafted free agent and didn’t subject him to waivers after he was hurt in the preseason speaks volumes about what they think of him.

2.) Deji Karim, RB HOU

The Texans signed Karim, Ray Graham AND Dennis Johnson off the street this week, fueling speculation they could be without both Arian Foster and Ben Tate this week. It’s anyone’s guess as to how these backs could get used, but Karim seems like the most logical one to see the most action. Somewhere Cierre Wood has to be thinking he’s quite the idiot for getting kicked off the team for smoking marijuana.

3.) Mike Brown, WR JAX

Anyone else noticed he’s taken over for Ace Sanders?

4.) Austin Davis, QB STL

You saw Kellen Clemens play last night and it’s not going to get much better. Davis is an interesting name for sure.

5.) Drew Davis, WR ATL

Harry Douglas all of a sudden looks like Superman, but Davis is holding his own as well. You could do worse if you have an open roster spot.

6.) LaVon Brazill, WR IND

I have my own concerns about just how productive he’ll be without Reggie Wayne around, but he’ll most certainly have an ample opportunity.

7.) Griff Whalen, WR IND

If you’re digging really deep, how about Whalen who got the call up from the practice squad over preseason underachiever Da’Rick Rogers?
