As the season approaches, some of us lose the best part of our fantasy football season – the draft. Well, thanks to daily fantasy football leagues, we are able to draft a team every week and test ourselves against thousands of other players. The drafts take minutes, the lineups are easy, and the prizes can be huge. Here at DLF, we will share with you some of the best free tournaments that have amazing prizes to the winner.

For those of you looking for advice on daily leagues, including those highlighted here, I urge you to check out the weekly series “Daily League Bargains” on DLF. It is a great resource for those of you looking for some sneaky additions to your daily lineups.

I will also choose one each week to participate in and share my experiences and urge each of you to do the same. Also, share any freeroll contests we may have missed.

freerollroster2Let’s start this week with a little reflection on the Victiv freeroll I participated in. Here was my team from a week ago. Once again, I did tinker as Arian Foster was unavailable and required some lineup shuffling.

I had a nice week, finishing in the money and in the top 250 of all entrants. Here are a few takeaways I had from week three and my strategy:

  • Looking low value where available – Niles Paul, Donald Brown and Stevan Ridley each cost about 30% less than I could spend on average – that enabled me to spend in other places. Brown and Paul gave me nice performances while Ridley did enough to justify the low spend.
  • Matchup Love – This week, I went in big against the Jets atrocious pass defense with Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Two of the three paid off nicely with Marshall aggravating his ankle injury during the contest. This can pay off big or flop tremendously so choose wisely.
  • Touchy Feely – No, this isn’t where I advocate for Jay Feely. Instead, I believe focusing on players who are centerpieces of their offense is preferred over a player capable of a big play – that’s likely why Cordarrelle Patterson or Justin Hunter will be avoided in favor of T.Y. Hilton and Brian Quick. Too bad Hilton was injured because he was on pace for a career day.

Now, on to the freerolls for this week and a preview of my team that I will be “rolling” with in week four.

FanDuel.com

This week, Fan Duel does not have any available freerolls but there are always free games that allow you to keep your skills sharp and be active on player pricing and strategy.

Victiv.com – $500 NFL Freerolls

There are two freeroll contests on Victiv this week that have $500 payouts. The contests pay out the top 151 players and are limited to the first 750 who enter. Both are 0.5 PPR settings and only give mild penalties for fumbles or interceptions (-1 each).

Draftster.com

This week, Draftster does not have any freeroll contests available but they usually host some free practice leagues. For those of you new to the site or just trying to dip your toes in, it’s an easy way to gain some experience.

Draftkings.com – $10 NFL Freerolls

Draftkings has four $10 freerolls for the NFL in addition to several more for college football. If you’re indecisive or just looking to hedge your bets, enter a few with different lineups and see how you fair.

FantasyAces.com – $500 NFL Freeroll

freerollrosterFantasyAces has a 5,000 person contest with payouts to the top 100 finishers this week. A few differences here include a heftier fine than other sites for interceptions (-2), two starting quarterbacks and more emphasis on a playmaking defense as opposed to one that can keep the score low. Still, there’s plenty of room on this contest so get in and win some money!

This will be my contest for the week and I will say, it was a difficult set of choices given the six teams on bye week. Given the penalties for quarterback interceptions, I went with two of the more accurate quarterbacks this season. My running backs were value picks with DeAngelo Williams being an upside play given the news about Jonathan Stewart. I focused on wide receiver here as my picks were high volume players in offenses I expected to put up big points. I did once again go to the duo of Jay Cutler and Alshon Jeffery as I expect the Packers-Bears game to be a high scoring affair.

Draftday.com – Various

Looks like Draftday is going all out this week with their freeroll contests. They have a $100 freeroll open to the first 3,000 entrants. This is your more standard type of contest so if you like to have no gimmicks with your football, I would choose this one. If you’re feeling really lucky, they are hosting a $1M perfect lineup contest that sounds exactly like what it is. The entries are limitless so competition here will be high. There is also a $100 “Target” contest where you are trying to score more than 300 points for the week. The prize is split amongst all winners that accomplish the feat. Last, there is a $5 pick ‘em contest for those of you more interested in the team sport and less interested in the players.

Sportstradex.com – Variety

Sportstradex once again has a few “winner take all” NFL freerolls. They vary from the standard salary cap contest to the pick ‘em variety so choose your own adventure.

Statclash.com – $20 NFL Freeroll

Statclash tends to prefer smaller freeroll contests both in terms of prize money and entrant size. This week does not disappoint as the smaller prize is limited to the first 200 entries. For those who prefer to get intimate with their contest; pop open the bubbly, curl up on the couch, and share some quality time with this contest.

Fantasyscore.com

There are no freerolls on fantasyscore.com this week but they have a variety of smaller free entry leagues. It simulates more of a typical fantasy league in size (usually around ten people) so it can be a nice introduction into the world of daily fantasy football.

Scorestreak.com – $180 NFL Freeroll

Scorestreak continues their year-long promotion of winning a Tesla but this week they have an additional freeroll contest. The $180 freeroll is limited to the first 200 entries with the top 100 being paid out. I like the odds here and is a great introduction to people who want to make a few bucks and are still learning the daily game.

Next week, we will highlight some of the freerolls for week five of the season and I will provide a recap of my performance as well!
