Monday Mocks: Dynasty Win-Now Veterans Mock Draft

Ryan McDowell

Welcome to Monday Mocks, where I’ll bring you…you guessed it, a new mock draft every Monday during the off-season. In my opinion, drafting is the best part of fantasy football, so I do as much of that as I can. This series will be filled with all types of mocks. We’ll draft startups, rookies, devys, and more.

Senior Bowl week just concluded and the NFL Combine takes place later this month, so most dynasty managers have fully focused their attention on the incoming rookie class. That makes this the ideal time to send an early offseason trade offer for a reliable veteran that could eventually bring you a league title.

This week’s Monday Mock focuses on established veterans at the running back, wide receiver, and tight end position. Each of these players is at least 27 years old but even that age means different things for players across these positions. A 27-year-old ball carrier could be near the end of their respective career, while pass catchers at the same age could have five years or more remaining of impactful play.

ROUND ONE:

1.01 Christian McCaffrey, RB SF (27 years old)

While he might not be the dynasty RB1 at the moment, it is hard to argue against McCaffrey as the best back in the league, which has been the case for years. Oddly enough, CMC hasn’t held the dynasty RB1 crown (per DLF ADP) since October of 2021. Regardless, he continues to churn out outlier seasons. McCaffrey has put together four straight seasons as a top-three fantasy back, when healthy. Even in the two seasons in which he played ten combined games, he was scoring as the RB1 and RB5 respectively before his season was cut short.

1.02 Tyreek Hill, WR MIA (29)

In many ways, Hill is the wide receiver version of McCaffrey. Dynasty managers have to adjust the way they value the player based on the insane production. With many other players, the value begins to drop as they near 30 years of age (Hill hits that mark next month) but the Dolphins star remains a first-rounder in our latest ADP and the WR8 in our latest dynasty rankings. Outside of the 2019 season in which he missed a month, Hill has put together six straight seasons as a top-eight fantasy scorer, including three of the past four years as the overall WR2. He has shown no signs of slowing down, literally. Hill’s speed remains one of the biggest advantages in the league, which keeps him near the top of this list.

1.03 Mark Andrews, TE BAL (28)

The top two picks were easy calls, making Ravens tight end Andrews the beginning of a new tier. At 28 years old, he qualifies for the subset, but also could have at least five more seasons of TE1 level production. Based on fantasy points per game, Andrews has finished as a top-five scorer in five straight seasons and remains the top target for quarterback Lamar Jackson. Andrews’ value has trended downward in recent months because of the injury that cost him nearly half the season. His ADP in the past two months is lower than at any point over the past two calendar years. This makes Andrews a clear buy-low target before opinions on him begin to change.
