Devy Stock Market

Nathan Powell

The fantasy football stock market is constantly fluctuating and it is always important for us to stay on top of player stocks going up and downs. In devy stock market, each week I cover the best and worst performances of the week and how they impact the value of these players in devy fantasy football leagues.

Don’t Be a Jurk-ovec – Phil Jurkovec, QB Boston College

Jurkovec entered the collegiate ranks as the number five dual-threat quarterback in the nation in 2018, per Rivals. He began his collegiate career at Notre Dame but was unable to beat out Ian Book for the starting job, which led him to the transfer portal. Early in 2020, Jurkovec transferred to Boston College. In the last two weeks, Jurkovec has shown the potential many thought he had with 671 passing yards, six total touchdowns, and no interceptions.

While Jurkovec is draft-eligible, it is unlikely he declares for the NFL with the limited resume. With continued success, he will be a target in deep superflex devy leagues next off-season.

Cancelling Costello – KJ Costello, QB Mississippi State

Many devy players were excited about Costello entering the Mike Leach offense at Mississippi State, and the excitement was only increased after 625 yards and five touchdowns in the opening week win against LSU. However, two weeks later, that excitement has been squashed by a pair of poor performances against Arkansas and Kentucky.

In the last two games, Costello has just one touchdown and seven interceptions and his AY/A on the season has dipped to a porous 5.1. If you didn’t sell after the big opener, you are likely stuck holding Costello and it will take several week one-like performances for devy players to believe in Costello once again.

Tuning in for Tank – Tank Bigsby, RB Auburn

The number five running back in the 2020 class per Rivals had his breakout performance last week against Arkansas. After 14 carries in the first two games, Bigsby had 20 carries for 146 rushing yards, showing the talent that many knew he had coming out of high school. Bigsby is also getting involved in the passing game with 11 catches for 84 receiving yards. Another positive indicator for young players is an involvement in the return game and Bigsby has been the Auburn kick returner for the last two games, showing they want to get the ball in his hands in as many ways as possible.

Bigsby will be a devy league favorite next off-season, particularly if he sees similar volume the rest of the season as he saw last Saturday with 24 total touches.

Illingworth Watching – Shane Illingworth, QB Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State starting quarterback Spencer Sanders has battled an ankle injury early in the season which has given an opportunity to the number six Pro-Style quarterback in the 2020 class (per Rivals) Illingworth. Illingworth didn’t do much in the first two games of the season with only 213 passing yards and zero touchdowns, however in his third game, he made the case for why he should remain the Cowboys starting quarterback with 265 passing yards, 74% completion percentage and three touchdowns against Kansas.

Sanders may be rostered in deeper superflex devy leagues, but if I had him on any rosters, I’d be trying to get anything I can for him while there is still a perception that he is the starter when he’s healthy, because I think that Illingworth and his 10.1 AY/A will be the official starter soon, making him a possible draft pick in superflex devy leagues next off-season.

Marshall Marching Towards first Round Status – Terrace Marshall, WR LSU

Many attributed Marshall’s 2019 success to the breakout of Joe Burrow and while Ja’Marr Chase was WR2 and July devy ADP, Marshall did not receive the same respect with an ADP of WR24. With Chase opting out, Marshall has taken advantage of his opportunity as the LSU WR1. Marshall is averaging 20.2 yards per catch on the season and has been an end zone magnet with seven receiving touchdowns in only three games.

Marshall’s biggest performance of the season came last week with 235 receiving yards and three touchdowns against Missouri. Marshall is looking every bit like the first round pick that many expect teammate Chase to be. Marshall will be a great value for players who selected him at WR24 and he will be a top rookie pick in shallow devy leagues.

Ears Out for Evans – Zach Evans, RB TCU

Evans had a tumultuous recruiting process, including being released from his Letter of Intent from Georgia, and landed at TCU, a surprise for many for the Horned Frogs to land the top running back in the country. With Evans going to a lower profile school than expected, many expected him to be a day one starter. However, Evans has been unable to practice for the last month due to his roommate having COVID-19.

Last Saturday, Evans was able to get into the lineup for the first time, but only had one carry for three yards. Evans was unable to practice until September 29th, so it’s likely that the five-star running back will get more involved with the TCU offense as he is able to get more practice time and learn the offense. If the Evans manager is scared off by the lack of production early in his career, this is a great buying opportunity for a talented player whose touches could increase greatly as the season goes on.
