FanDuel Stacks: Week Seven

I don’t know what happened in week six. Nothing that made sense seemed to work out. Tom Brady, Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola combined for only 51.68 points. This stack was worth fading, since LeGarrette Blount scored most of the points for the Patriots. Andy Dalton and AJ Green only put together 27.12 points. Marvin Jones decided to catch most of Dalton’s passes. Eddie Lacy couldn’t get going and left our stack with the Packers defense amassing only nine points.

On the bright side, fading Teddy Bridgewater and Mike Wallace was a good move. The two of them didn’t even score enough to get halfway to meeting value.

I have a few things for you to consider before we get into this week’s stacking options.

*The running back position is not optimal this week. I will be paying up for high priced backs due to the lack of quality in the lower price ranges. Latavius Murray ($7,000), Rashad Jennings ($6,300) and Christine Michael ($5,600) have some appeal in the $7,000 and under range, but I don’t like many other than them. Adrian Peterson ($8,900), Devonta Freeman ($8,700), Todd Gurley ($7,400) and Frank Gore ($7,100) are players who will need to be in many lineups in order to maximize the running back position.

*Cheap stacks are going to be the counter to having to pay up for running backs.

*There are almost ten tight end options that seem viable to me this week, but Antonio Gates ($5,800) is a player who I would recommend using frequently. His ownership is going to be sky high due to his low price, but his upside against the awful-against-tight-ends Oakland defense makes him very appealing. Use him as a block against other competitors.

Remember, these are recommendations for guaranteed prize pools (GPPs) with over 50 entries and aren’t necessarily recommended for cash games.

 

Highest Upside

Carson Palmer, QB ARI

Larry Fitzgerald, WR ARI

John Brown, WR ARI

FanDuel has finally raised Palmer’s ($8,200) price high enough to where only four quarterbacks will cost you more than him. The good news is the Cardinals play at home against the Ravens, who have the worst defense against opposing quarterbacks. Baltimore is also giving up the second most fantasy points to opposing receivers, making Fitzgerald ($7,800) and Brown ($6,700) strong value plays.

[inlinead]Fitzgerald remains criminally underpriced, coming in as the tenth most expensive receiver. Brown is still priced as a WR2, but has the upside to finish as the top overall receiver. This is one of those games where I will stack Palmer with Fitzgerald separately from Brown in several lineups as opposed to both receivers at once. This looks like a game where one receiver goes 8/125/2 and the other 4/30/0, and I’m not confident an accurate projection for which one is which can be made. I’m going to have high ownership of all three players in tournament games. Play them without worry.

Best Value

Landry Jones, QB PIT

Antonio Brown, WR PIT

A few days ago, I wouldn’t have really considered these two players or the quarterback Jones ($6,000) is replacing. With Ben Roethlisberger ($8,400) and Michael Vick both likely out this week against Kansas City, Jones and Brown ($8,300) become a good lower-priced stacking option. Martavis Bryant ($6,900) deserves mention, as well, but I’m more interested in Brown. After spending a good portion of the season as a top priced receiver, his price has come down to the more easily useable range.

With the possibility of Roethlisberger still playing in this game, there is huge risk in playing this stack in Thursday slates, but there is also a huge advantage to it. If Big Ben does play, I will swap him out for Jones in Sunday slates without worry, but swapping will make filling out the lineup much more difficult. Keep it in mind when considering alternate lineups.

Stack of the Weak

 Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB NYJ

Eric Decker, WR NYJ

I did not expect Fitzpatrick ($7,100) to be having the season he is so far. He is a top 12 quarterback in fantasy points per game among quarterbacks who have started at least four games. Right now his floor is around 15 points. While that isn’t spectacular, he will be in a game against the Patriots where he will have to throw the ball constantly to keep up pace with their high scoring offense.

The Patriots’ secondary is beat up right now, with backup Justin Coleman likely seeing the field in three receiver sets. This is a prime opportunity to play Decker ($6,200) in cash and tournament games. Decker will see Logan Ryan most of the time, with teammate Brandon Marshall ($8,200) will line up across from Coleman and Malcolm Butler. This is another case where both receivers could have massive games, but I prefer Decker’s WR3 price to Marshall’s WR1 tag.

Fool’s Gold

Did you see the trailer for Star Wars Episode VII during halftime of the Monday Night Football game? I did, and I’m a massive Star Wars fan. If you are familiar with this movie franchise, then you’ll understand what I’m about to say.

It’s a trap!

This is a game with a fairly close spread and the fifth highest total projected points, but the Panthers defensive line and secondary should beat up on Bradford ($7,700), Matthews ($6,600), Cooper ($5,300), Huff ($5,400) and Agholor ($5,000). None of these receivers have a positive matchup. None of these receivers have performed well this season. I’m fading all five of them. It’s a trap.
