Undrafted Rookie Free Agent Tracker

The draft has come and gone with a whole host of players going undrafted. While many sub-par dynasty coaches simply look at the NFL Draft order to choose their rookies in the upcoming draft, savvy dynasty league owners are smart enough to monitor all the undrafted free agents in order to have the full picture when they use their valuable rookie picks. After all, that’s where players like Arian Foster and Victor Cruz have come from.

Here’s a running list of rookie free agent signings, along with their outlook.

Chris Polk, RB PHI

Shocking.

Polk was considered an early round prospect, but fell completely out of the draft as teams showed major concerns about the health of his shoulder, as well what many feel is a degenerative hip condition.

He was an ultra-productive running back on some very bad Washington teams, posting 4,049 yards and 26 touchdowns in his four-year career, including 1,488 yards last season. He also had at least 100 rushing yards in 10 of 13 games last season.

In Philadelphia, he’ll find himself on a depth chart that includes LeSean McCoy, Dion Lewis and newly drafted Bryce Brown. You have to figure three running backs make that team – my money is on McCoy being one of them (insert laugh track.)

It’s going to take someone with some serious guts to take a run at Polk with a rookie draft pick, but if he’s healthy, he could be a steal. It’s just going to be tough to burn a pick on a player who may not even make the team.

Kellen Moore, QB DET

When can you throw for 14,667 yards, 142 touchdowns and 28 interceptions at the D1 level and still go undrafted? When your name is Kellen Moore, that’s when.

Moore’s offseason was a train wreck as he was arguably the worst quarterback at the combine. He showed a real lack of arm strength and is, frankly, just not a very good athelete.

He can, however, lead a team and run a conservative offense, that’s for sure. He’s just not going to be a guy who’s going to be able to lead a team down from double digit deficits very often.

He could make the team as the third quarterback behind Matt Stafford and Shaun Hill, but there’s not a ton to like here.

Jeff Fuller, WR MIA

Fuller is going to be reunited with quarterback Ryan Tannehill in Miami and it’s a pretty good fit. If not for a late foot injury, he would have most certainly been drafted.

He’s not going to jump out at you in any one area, but he’s a player to monitor through minicamps and into the preseason. After all, the Dolphins aren’t exactly stacked at the position and it would be comforting for Tannehill to have Fuller around.

Chris Owusu, WR SF

The good news is that Owusu is re-united with former Coach Jim Harbaugh. The bad news is he’s looking at a depth chart with Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham, Randy Moss, Ted Ginn and A.J. Jenkins.

Owusu is a talented player, but he’s had a few concussions that make Austin Collie’s look like he was playing flag football. If he can check out medically, he could make the team. He’s likely headed to the practice squad, though.

Vontaze Burfict, LB CIN

Of course.

Case Keenum, QB HOU

Keenum stats (19,217 passing yards and 155 touchdowns) make Kellen Moore look ordinary. Unfortunately, it’s hard to see him translating those video game stats into anything fruitful in the NFL. He’s relatively small and will have to really play well this Summer to earn a roster spot.

He shouldn’t be anywhere close to yours.

James Rodgers, WR ATL

Those of us in the Northwest know James Rodgers quite well and it’s a nice story to see him reunited with Jacquizz Rodgers in Atlanta. He’ll have an uphill climb to make the roster, but he’s more talented than you may think.

Bobby Rainey, RB BAL

Once thought of as a deep sleeper, Rainey is going to have a tough time cracking the roster of the Ravens – he’ll likely be ticketed for the practice squad.

Aaron Corp, QB BUF

This former USC quarterback just never lived up to his potential, but could make a run as a backup in Buffalo.

Tauren Poole, RB CAR

Really?

This is the single worst place for Poole to sign and it’s actually quite surprising his agent chose the Panthers. With DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert in place, Poole has virtually no chance of making this team. Maybe that tells you about the interest of other teams.

Rodney Stewart, RB CIN

Dan Herron likely has the upper hand, but keep an eye on Stewart this offseason. The Bengals depth chart is nothing like that of Carolina’s.

Darrell Scott, RB DAL

Scott was a bit of a one year wonder at USF, but it’s going to be interesting to see if the Cowboys stash him on the practice squad. Felix Jones is likely running out of time with the Cowboys and DeMarco Murray still hasn’t proven he can stay healthy.

Marc Tyler, RB GB

I’m amazed the Packers didn’t take a running back in the draft, but they picked up Tyler from USC, Duane Bennett from Minnesota and Winston-Salem State’s Nicholas Cooper. Keep close tabs on these three. They’re likely to fizzle, but you never know.

Dwight Jones, WR HOU

The Texans have a need for someone to emerge opposite Andre Johnson. While they assume it’s going to be DeVier Posey or Keshawn Johnson, all these guys are going to have an even playing field.

Jermaine Kearse, WR SEA

Kearse stays at home and signs with Seattle. This is a nice fit for him and he’ll have a shot at making the team since they failed to really address the position during the draft.
