The Dynasty Aftermath: Week Fourteen

aftermath
Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.

I was pretty surprised this week when I read Wayward Pines was coming back for a second season on FOX. After all, it seemed to be pretty much over at the end of last year when the secret of the town was revealed (I won’t spoil it for those who may want to backtrack). For those who missed it, it was a mini-series (or so we thought) from M. Night Shymalan (or as I like to call him, M Night Shymalamadingdong) about a group of people who wake up in a small town in Idaho and are not allowed to leave.

I don’t mind sequels much, but this one just seems forced. It would be like making Titanic 2 or Rocky 15: Go For it Again! Oh well, maybe they’ll come up with something creative to entertain us.

Anyway, on to this week’s aftermath.  Expect some Wayward Pines references.

Week Fourteen Fantasy MVP

Odell Beckham Jr. is a flat out stud.  He could be on the MVP list in just about any week, but his seven-catch, 166-yard, two touchdown performance on Monday Night Football had to seal some playoff victories in dramatic fashion. He really is an amazing player and you wonder just what kind of numbers he could end his career with.

Week Fourteen Fantasy LVP

Amari Cooper will be a great asset to have in dynasty leagues for years to come, but his first ever “no catch” performance had to sting for anyone counting on him either getting them into the playoffs or winning their first playoff game. There will be better days ahead, but that was a surprising dud.

Lineup Fun

The Unbeatable Lineup of the Week
“If we are going to survive we’re going to have to make it better. No more lies, no more surveillance, no more reckonings. If we work together, I believe it is possible. I believe we can succeed. We have to. This is it. This is all that’s left. This is the last of humanity.”

QB Russell Wilson SEA = 292 passing yards, six rushing yards, five touchdowns
RB Todd Gurley STL = 140 rushing yards, one catch, seven receiving yards, two touchdowns

The Underdog Lineup of the Week
“Someone’s gonna kill me, I’d rather it be you.”

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick NYJ = 263 passing yards, 23 rushing yards, three touchdowns
RB Isaiah Crowell CLE = 145 rushing yards, one catch, nine receiving yards, two touchdowns
RB James Starks GB = 71 rushing yards, four catches, 32 receiving yards, two touchdowns

WR Ted Ginn Jr. CAR = Two catches, 120 receiving yards, two touchdowns

WR Tyler Lockett SEA = Six catches, 104 receiving yards, two touchdowns
TE Zach Miller CHI = Five catches, 85 receiving yards, one touchdown

The Disappointing Lineup of the Week
“David is not a savior, he’s not a god, he’s just a man, and he’s made a mistake.”

QB Andy Dalton CIN = 59 passing yards, one interception, one broken thumb
RB Latavius Murray OAK = 27 rushing yards

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I woke up in a small town in Idaho and didn’t know how to get out.

I’d be worried if I actually got out of that small town in Idaho.

I’d be worried if I had any hopes for CJ Spiller.

I’d be worried if I was counting on the Bengals skill players after losing Andy Dalton.

I’d be worried if I was starting ANY player on the Cowboys.

I’d be worried if I was expecting the Panthers to keep running Jonathan Stewart much longer, especially with a bum foot.

I’d be worried if I had Thomas Rawls. He probably showed enough to the Seahawks for them to believe he’s their future, but it would have been nice to see him cap off a really nice rookie season.

I’d be worried if I was playing against Russell Wilson and/or Doug Baldwin at the moment.

I’d be worried if I was even considering starting Matt Ryan.

I’d be worried if I had any idea what to expect from Eddie Lacy this week.

I’d be worried if I was relying on any Philadelphia running back. What a hot mess this is.

I’d be worried if I was still looking for that breakout from Davante Adams this year.

I’d be worried if I was looking at any running back from the Texans for help.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring how good Will Tye has been.

I’d be worried if I hadn’t tried to get Julius Thomas when he was cheap.

I’d be worried if I was actually counting on Ted Ginn to catch two long ones each week. I wouldn’t put it past him, but you can’t really expect it EVERY week, can you?

A Look Ahead to Hot Names on the Waiver Wire

Remember, we focus on the lesser names here who we haven’t mentioned much this season. Pay close attention because we tend to be ahead of the curve. It’s getting skinnier by the week, though!

1.) Tim Hightower, RB NO

It really looks like New Orleans has just given up on the CJ Spiller experiment.

2.) Bryce Brown, RB SEA

Someone has to carry the ball for the Seahawks on first and second down and Harris was just cut. Let’s see if the Hawks add anyone else this week.

3.) AJ McCarron, QB CIN

Comparing your situation to Tom Brady’s from years ago seems a little presumptuous, but whatever.

4.) Brandon Bolden, RB NE

I dunno.
