Waiver Wire Advice: Week Six

Ken Kelly

tuelWe’ll be covering some of the hot names on the majority of dynasty league waiver wires each week for our premium content members.  These players will likely be owned in a minority of dynasty leagues. We won’t waste your time with bigger names who are likely owned in your league like Kenbrell Thompkins, or the likely one week wonders like Dallas Clark or Vonta Leach because you guys are just too good for that.  We’re simply going to cover some players who could be targets this week if you have an open roster spot and are willing to throw a dart with the hope of getting lucky.

Mainstream waiver wire articles will be posted all over the Internet this week begging people to pick up obvious players, but our job is to give you information to make informed and educated decisions and stay ahead of the curve, not on it.

Just remember one other very important thing – you’re in a dynasty league, not a re-draft league. Don’t get too enamored by the one hit wonders and drop your young projects in a quest to find lightning in a bottle. Savvy dynasty league owners will tell you the best players on the wire each and every year end up being the ones dropped by impatient owners, not the ones who suddenly break out. We won’t repeat many names here, so check out the list from prior weeks as we move along.

With that being said, here are this week’s picks in order of priority:

1.) Nick Foles, QB PHI

In a shocking development, Michael Vick is hurt once again for the Eagles – this again opens the door for Foles to come in and audition for Philadelphia or other future teams over the next few weeks. Foles did well in replacement of Vick this week, going 16-for-25 for 197 yards and two touchdowns. If he was prematurely dropped in your league, make sure he doesn’t stay on the wire.

2.) Garrett Graham, TE HOU

With Owen Daniels hurt, Graham is going to step in as the TE1 in Houston at least in the short term. He’s held value even without the injury, so Graham is very worthy of a pickup this week. Daniels has a history of minor injuries, so keep an eye on Graham’s performance over the next few weeks in what may end up being a lost season for the Texans.

3.) TJ Yates, QB HOU

It’s quarterback central this week, but it’s obvious Matt Schaub has lost his confidence. If he loses the locker room, Yates is going to start here really soon. He wasn’t incredibly impressive in his first run as a starter, but remember he was just a rookie thrown into a very difficult position.

4.) Marcel Reece, RB OAK

Doesn’t it seem like we’re in this boat every year with the Raiders?

5.) Da’Rel Scott, RB NYG

It looks like the Giants really don’t feel as if Michael Cox is ready to play, so they re-signed Scott this week. Wilson is hurt, Jacobs has been ineffective, Cox isn’t ready and it’s a short week. You do the math.

6.) Thad Lewis, QB BUF

Any starting quarterback should be on dynasty rosters, especially if they’re young. Lewis is far from ready to play at this level, but he’s still going to get his shot while EJ Manuel recovers. It’s a bit of a surprise he’s getting promoted to start over Jeff Tuel, so that’s notable.

7.) Jeff Maehl, WR PHI

The former Oregon Duck knows the Eagles offense better than anyone and he’s starting to make some headway in taking time from Riley Cooper. Maehl isn’t an incredibly gifted athlete, but he knows how to get open – there’s something to be said about that.
