This post has an in-depth look at the first twenty rounds of a Dynasty Experts League Draft comprised of some of the biggest names in the industry. This is a real league created, not a mock draft. You’ll find the initial rosters after the first 20 rounds at the end as well. If you’d like to continue following the draft beyond round #20, click here.
Here’s were the first 20 rounds and the rest of our own picks, with our strategic approach included:
1.01 FantasyFootballXtreme = Chris Johnson RB TEN
1.02 RotoExperts = Adrian Peterson RB MIN
1.03 Pigskin Addiction = Ray Rice RB BAL
1.04 KeeperLeagueGM = Maurice Jones-Drew RB JAX
1.05 Footballguys = Andre Johnson WR HOU
1.06 RotoWorld = Calvin Johnson WR DET
1.07 NoOffseason.com = Brandon Marshall WR MIA
1.08 Fantasy Sharks = Frank Gore RB SF
1.09 DynastyGuys = Larry Fitzgerald WR ARI
1.10 FantasyFootball.com = Jamaal Charles RB KC
1.11 ESPN / Scouts, Inc. = DeAngelo Williams RB CAR
1.12 Dynasty League Football = Aaron Rodgers QB GB
DLF’s Round One Strategy
The random draw for draft slots did us no favors since we were drawn 12th. It’s ironic that we set the league up, then ended up with the last choice of draft slots. That was OK, though. The last three spots taken were 9, 11, and 12. We actually wanted 12.
Our strategy for round one was pretty simple – stand pat and see who falls. We knew we’d be out of the first tier of RBs and likely the first tier of WRs, too. We actually expected Aaron Rodgers to go a pick or two ahead of ours, but we were happy to see him fall. He’s a lock for production and was actually 46 pts better than the 2nd QB (Drew Brees) in 2009. We felt comfortable building around him, especially since we had the next pick.
We’re not usually a proponent of picking a QB in round one, but we sniffed something out very early in this draft (see round two).
The first round went pretty much true to form, though we would have taken Fitzgerald over Calvin Johnson and let Frank Gore and DeAngelo Williams go as well.
2.01 Dynasty League Football = Ryan Mathews RB SD
2.02 ESPN/Scouts, Inc. = Drew Brees QB NO
2.03 Dynasty League Football = Jonathan Stewart RB CAR
2.04 FantasyFootballXtreme = Reggie Wayne WR IND
2.05 KeeperLeagueGM = Roddy White WR ATL
2.06 FantasyFootballXtreme = Peyton Manning QB IND
2.07 Rotoworld = Greg Jennings WR GB
2.08 Footballguys = Rashard Mendenhall RB PIT
2.09 FantasyFootballXtreme = Michael Turner RB ATL
2.10 Pigskin Addiction = Miles Austin WR DAL
2.11 RotoExperts = Shonn Greene RB NYJ
2.12 NoOffseason.com = LeSean McCoy RB PHI
DLF’s Round Two Strategy
We had the first pick of round two and we knew that getting two RBs early would allow us to focus on some other positions later and take a risk or two. Knowing that ESPN / Scouts, Inc. had taken DeAngelo Williams at #11, we knew Jonathan Stewart wouldn’t be taken at #13 behind us – it would make little sense for one team to have both Williams and Stewart together. Knowing that, we moved our #1 in 2011 and #36 for #15, targeting Stewart. This allowed us to take Ryan Mathews at #13 and Stewart at #15. Getting Rodgers, Stewart and Mathews at the start was a great coup for us. Mathews is a risk for sure, but so were many other rookie #1 RBs and his situation is great.
Round two was a run of WRs. We wouldn’t have taken Reggie Wayne that early based on his age and we scratched our head on Greg Jennings that high, but everyone has a different strategy in this.
3.01 NoOffseason.com = Knowshon Moreno RB DEN
3.02 RotoExperts = Randy Moss WR NE
3.03 Pigskin Addiction = DeSean Jackson WR PHI
3.04 Fantasy Sharks = Sidney Rice WR MIN
3.05 Footballguys = Michael Crabtree WR SF

3.09 DynastyGuys = Marques Colston WR NO
3.10 FantasyFootball.com = Steve Smith WR NYG
3.11 RotoWorld = Chris Wells RB ARI
3.12 FantasyFootball.com = Matt Schaub QB HOU
DLF’s Round Three Strategy
We had no picks in the third round. We attempted to move up a few times for Steve Smith of the Giants (a monster in this format), but the price was too high. We knew we’d get a good WR1 with the first pick of round four.
4.01 Dynasty League Football = Anquan Boldin WR BAL
4.02 ESPN / Scouts, Inc. = Felix Jones RB DAL
4.03 NoOffseason.com = CJ Spiller RB BUF
4.04 DynastyGuys = Jahvid Best RB DET
4.05 Fantasy Sharks = Pierre Thomas RB NO

4.09 Fantasy Sharks = Tony Romo QB DAL
4.10 Pigskin Addiction = Jon Beason LB CAR
4.11 RotoExperts = Percy Harvin WR MIN
4.12 ESPN / Scouts, Inc. = Hakeem Nicks WR NYG
DLF’s Round Four Strategy
We needed to have a WR here since we had no more picks until #60. The pool was getting thin, so we jumped on Anquan Boldin. Boldin wasn’t the WR we wanted (we were hoping for Steve Smith or Marques Colston), but he’s a safe bet for 80+ catches.
5.01 FootballGuys = Philip Rivers QB SD
5.02 DynastyGuys = Tom Brady QB NE
5.03 Pigskin Addiction = Joseph Addai RB IND
5.04 FantasyFootballXtreme = Jermichael Finley TE GB
5.05 NoOffseason.com = Dallas Clark TE IND
5.06 Rotoworld = Dwayne Bowe WR KC
5.07 RotoExperts = Matt Forte RB CHI
5.08 FootballGuys = Vernon Davis TE SF
5.09 RotoExperts = Mike Wallace WR PIT
5.10 DynastyGuys = Cedric Benson RB CIN
5.11 ESPN / Scouts, Inc. = Antonio Gates TE SD
5.12 Dynasty League Football = Jason Witten TE DAL
DLF’s Round Five Strategy
Waiting for this pick was absolutely excruciating. We wanted one of the premier TEs and had targeted either Vernon Davis, Jermichael Finley or Jason Witten. The point differential with these TEs (along with Clark and Gates) is huge. You’re at a disadvantage if you don’t have one. We tried numerous times to move up in the round for a shot at one of them, but found no takers. Having Witten fall was great for us. His 2 TD year was a fluke and we were lucky to see him drop. We thought Finley went a little too high, but we knew once a TE was taken that it would start a run. If we hadn’t secured Witten, we were going to attempt to trade down and get Brent Celek a few picks later.
6.01 Dynasty League Football = Wes Welker WR NE
6.02 NoOffseason.com = Santonio Holmes WR NYJ
6.03 NoOffseason.com = Jeremy Maclin WR PHI
6.04 DynastyGuys = Mike Sims-Walker WR JAX
6.05 FantasySharks = Jay Cutler QB CHI
6.06 FootballGuys = Donald Brown RB IND
6.07 RotoWorld = Kevin Kolb QB PHI
6.08 NoOffseason.com = Chad Ochocinco WR CIN
6.09 Dynasty League Football = Demaryius Thomas WR DEN
6.10 Pigskin Addiction = Matt Ryan QB ATL
6.11 RotoExperts = Eli Manning QB NYG
6.12 NoOffseason.com = Ben Tate RB HOU
DLF’s Round Six Strategy
With Rodgers, Stewart, Mathews, Boldin and Witten as our core five, we thought it was appropriate to take a chance. The other player we had targeted was Wes Welker. His injury is obviously a major concern, but we felt the later rounds would yield us some other WRs to build around as well, especially with numerous teams needing a QB and another RB. In this format, Welker was the 16th best player last season. He’s aging, but if he comes back strong the 2nd half of 2010, he’s a guy who could win the division for us. We felt he was worth the risk, especially when you consider he was the #2 WR overall in this format last year.
UPDATE: We traded our 8.01, 13.12 and 14.01 for 6.09
What we COULDN’T say earlier is that we had intended all along to trade back into this round with later picks to have a shot at a young WR. We considered Demaryius Thomas a little earlier and were hoping we could secure him. This helps minimize the risk we took with Welker.
7.01 FantasyFootballXtreme = Mario Williams DE HOU

7.07 KeeperLeagueGM = Darren Sproles RB SD
7.08 FantasySharks = Montario Hardesty RB CLE
7.09 DynastyGuys = Matt Stafford QB DET
7.10 FantasyFootballXtreme = Brian Cushing LB HOU
7.11 ESPN / Scouts, Inc. = Pierre Garcon WR IND
7.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Kenny Britt WR TEN
DLF’s Round Seven Strategy
With no 8th round pick currently, we were really hoping one of two players fell to us – Kenny Britt or Pierre Garcon. Our choice was made easy when Garcon went one pick ahead of us. We wanted to get another young WR who has a chance at being a #1 for his team eventually. We feel fortunate to get that in Britt. While he has some growing up to do, he showed some flashes of real talent last season. That gives us some added flexibility should both Wes Welker and Demaryius Thomas not be ready for week #1, as possible.

DLF’s Round Eight Strategy
With no 8th round pick, we sat back and pain endured as players left the board. In the end, we would have just been greedy and impulsive to make another play into the round. Patience is a virtue.

9.10 ESPN / Scouts, Inc. = Devin Hester WR CHI
9.11 ESPN / Scouts, Inc. = Ahmad Bradshaw RB NYG
9.12 Dynasty League Football = Reggie Bush RB NO
DLF’s Round Nine Strategy
We kept sitting around thinking SOMEONE would take Reggie Bush, but he kept sliding and sliding. While he’ll never be the Reggie Bush we once hoped he’d be, he should still be a good RB3 with some upside. With Mike Bell gone, we hope he gets a few more touches. His ADP was right around #77, and we got him at #108. That’s good value.

10.12 Pigskin Addiction = Bernard Pollard S HOU
DLF’s Round Ten Strategy
It seems crazy, doesn’t it?
When we looked at the pool of players, we just didn’t see the need to jump on a 2nd QB (Rodgers will play 16 weeks for us, barring injury and there were still plenty of backups available), another WR (we counted 12 Wrs who we felt were about equal) or IDP (again, the point differential here wasn’t large at all), so we decided to shoot the moon. Darren McFadden has been a total disaster, but he’s still very young and has a lot of talent. This is make or break season for sure. Marshawn Lynch was picked up via trade for our 2011 2nd and 3rd round picks during the fantasyfootball.com garage sale (he’s stated that he’s attempting to pick up as many future assets as possible and play for the long haul). While we fully believe he’ll be a Bill in 2010, he’s the most likely player to be moved for the short and long-term. If there’s an injury before next offseason, this could be a major coup for us. If not, we felt he’d be a starter somewhere at some point. This was a total luxury pick. While our WRs are still looking a little skinny (especially early on with the Welker injury), we have a few more tricks up our sleeves to address that. Stay tuned.

11.10 FantasyFootball.com = Steve Slaton RB HOU
11.11 NoOffseason.com = Arrelious Benn WR TB
11.12 Dynasty League Football = Carson Palmer QB CIN
DLF’s Round Eleven Strategy
With no picks in rounds #13 and #14, we knew that a backup QB was essential here, otherwise we were going to end up with someone who was either a major project or a significant dropoff from Rodgers. Carson Palmer was available and we felt he was a good addition as a #2 QB. If Rodgers were to go down, we wouldn’t be totally sunk with Palmer in the fold.
12.01 DynastyLeague Football = TJ Houshmandzadeh WR SEA

12.12 NoOffseason.com = Austin Collie WR IND
Some purists may scoff at the TJ Housmandzadeh pick, but we like his potential with Pete Carroll at the helm. He’s certainly no youngster, but we wanted some production here. We won’t be surprised if he has a major bounce back year and hoped to add some younger WRs later as well.

15.12 Dynasty League Football = Ray Lewis LB BAL
We risked waiting for some LB help and were rewarded with two veteran LBs at 15.12 and 16.01 in the form of Ray Lewis and London Fletcher. Lewis no doubt dropped because of his age, not his production. London wasn’t far behind, and the switch to a 3-4 can’t help his numbers. However, we really felt like LB and defense in general is the easiest part of a team to sacrifice at draft time and build up later. We’ll see what we can do later as well.

17.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Cadillac Williams RB TB
We really didn’t need another RB, but Cadillac Williams was too much to pass up this late. He was a full five rounds past his ADP (even in a dynasty league) and we’ve all been guilty of writing him off before. He should suit us well as a RB3/4 and could be a steal in this draft. We were pretty surprised that Early Doucet fell this far as well. It’s tough to say who may benefit more from Boldin leaving in Breaston or Doucet, and Breaston went five rounds earlier. We wanted some youth in the WR position, so we were happy to grab him.

19.11 ESPN / Scouts, Inc. = Jared Cook TE TEN
19.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Ray Edwards DE MIN
Thrilled would be a good word here. Ray Edwards was the 6th best DE in this scoring format last year, benefiting more from his situation than his talent. Add the sacks and forced fumbles he had in the playoffs and this was a pick we really liked. In addition, we felt like some people overlooked Aaron Kampman. If you take out the games he missed, he was the #2 DE in this format. A new start in Jacksonville should suit him well. In the end, we were pretty stoked to get two DEs of this caliber in rounds #19 and #20. We purposely overlooked IDPs early in hopes of getting some gems late and so far it’s worked. Lewis, Fletcher, Edwards and Kampman are a good core group for us. We’ll look to add some youth later, but feel really good about our strategy to this point.

21.12 DynastyLeague Football = Colt McCoy QB CLE
22.01 DynastyLeagueFootball = Jonathan Goff LB NYG
We really wanted to get a young QB in the mix and McCoy fit the bill. We immediately had a couple of teams comment they were targeting him a few picks later. We also wanted to leave this round with a young LB to add to our corps. Goff was a perfect compliment to our older LBs and plays in a 4-3. Even if he isn’t a 3-down player, that’s a lot of opportunities.
23.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Eric Decker WR DEN
24.01 DynastyLeagueFootball = Charlie Whitehurst QB SEA
We were really excited to see Decker fall this far. While we already have a young DEN WR in Demaryius Thomas, this pick really gave us some insurance in case he develops slowly and Decker catches on quickly. In a PPR, Decker could be a real bargain. We saw Whitehurst as a luxury pick this late in the draft. While no longer young, he’ll most certainly get his chance sooner than later.
25.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Todd Heap TE BAL
26.01 DynastyLeagueFootball = Justin Durant LB JAX
We’re not huge fans of Heap (who is), but getting him in round #25 as a backup to Witten was more than palatable. The TE2 dropoff after Heap was enormous, so we decided to jump on him. Durant gave us another young LB with some upside. He’s likely switching to Daryl Smith’s old spot and Smith was able to amass 107 tackles there last year with less talent than Durant.
27.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Roy Williams WR DAL
28.01 DynastyLeagueFootball = Tanard Jackson S TB
Roy Williams should have been drafted late, but not this late. True, Dez Bryant looks like the real deal, but he’s still a starter in a dynamic offense and is still only 29. He’s shown ability before, so if recent events strike a chord with him, this is a great choice. Tanard Jackson would have been the #2 CB/S in this format last year without his suspension, so he was an easy pick.
29.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Darren Sharper S NO
30.01 DynastyLeagueFootball = Chris Chambers WR KC
We considered taking Sharper two rounds earlier and love his big play potential, even with his age and injury concerns. Chambers is a constant underachiever, but his numbers after his trade to KC project out to over 1,000 yards and 9 TDs. If you can get even close to that in round #30 for a WR5, you do it.
31.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Martellus Bennett TE DAL
32.01 DynastyLeagueFootball = Brian Dawkins S DEN
Bennett was another good protection pick for us. If Witten was to get hurt, he’d immediately become #1 material. Our hope is he leaves Dallas at some point and becomes our TE2. He has all the ability in the world. Dawkins was someone we considered with Sharper a few rounds earlier. Again, he’s an older player, but you can pick up all the other CB or S with similar point totals any time. The possible point differential with Sharper and Dawkins (about 65 or 70 points total combined) over other players from that spot is big.
33.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Shawne Merriman LB SD
34.01 DynastyLeagueFootball = Phillip Dillard LB NYG
It’s very late in the draft, so it’s time to take some shots. With Merriman, we see a player angry in a contract year and we’re curious to see what he has left. With Dillard, we breathe a major sigh of relief. If Goff fails to get the MLB job in NY, Dillard will. That’s some insurance for an important spot for us.
35.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Armanti Edwards WR CAR
36.01 DynastyLeagueFootball = Bryan Scott S BUF
A couple of flyers here. Those familiar with the site know we’re high on Edwards this Summer. At #420, that’s worth a shot!
37.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = John Abraham DE ATL
38.01 DynastyLeagueFootball = James Farrior LB PIT
A couple of flyers here as well, but these two could also be bargains. Abraham had a terrible 2009, but is just one year removed from a 16.5 sack season. Farrior is a solid LB3/4.
39.12 DynastyLeagueFootball = Brian Brohm QB BUF
40.01DynastyLeagueFootball = LenDale White RB FA
In the last round, why not? The other players available on the board would likely still be there in free agency, but if Brohm wins the job, I’d rather not have to pay bid dollars to get him. Same goes for White if there’s a camp injury and he signs on.

TRADES
http://football19.myfantasyleague.com/2010/options?L=65048&O=03&TYPE=TRADE&FRANCHISE=0000&DAYS=30

Fitz the 4th WR off the board? Wow…
Forte and Slaton!
oh, wait, this isn’t last year….. ;-p
-oo-
DLF has just made a trade. We moved 3.12 (#36 overall) and our #1 in next year’s rookie draft for 2.03 (#15 overall).
Moving a future unknown and a 3rd round pick for the 15th overall pick…brilliant! Sounds like my draft/trade strategy.
That was a really nice trade!
great picks! and good trade..
SJax continues to tumble….. interesting….
-oo-
Wow! 3rd round and SJax is still on the board. Almost unbelievable. Makes me feel better about trading him away a couple of weeks ago.
would love to get in a league like this….
Why are people so short sighted in dynasty drafts.. how in gods name do you take randy moss ahead of desean jackson wtf?
Firstoff, great site! We are entering the 4th year of our dynasty league and unfortunately I just found this site now! I was looking at the trades being made and thought this would be a good place to ask for input on a questionable trade in our league. The team with the second pick in our rookie draft heard others were proposing trades for the 1st pick (which was traded to our 2nd place team in a prior trade) so they offered AP straight up for the pick, which was obviously accepted. Most members of our league contacted our commish to veto, but the response has been that we have not vetoed any other trades so we can’t start now. Should we accept this response or is this trade too unreasonable to just let go?
Hey Coach … thanks for stopping in and we’re glad to have you … later is better than never in our book. You’ll find a lot of great help on the forum. I really believe we have the best dynasty coaches on the net. And I’m partial to our website as well.
Welcome again.
Jeff
Really nice trade you made, particularly considering this year is a redraft and you get a known and valuable commodity while trading away speculation.
To Coach:
As Jeff said, it’s better to start doing it now when it is necessary rather than claim there is no precedence for it. AP should be taken in the top 4 of any draft there is, be it dynasty, redraft, keeper, PPR, whatever. That trade has to be overruled.
towards the end of the 4th round, and I’m liking what KeeperLeagueGM team is doing – MJD and SJax as RBs, Roddy at WR, and the first IDP, Willis of course. And great trades for them as well – they don’t give up too much to move up, and make great deals when moving down.
They may be the DLFs team toughest competition right now!
-oo-
I don’t know about your wide receiving corps. Welker’s coming off a torn ACL. Boldin is always battling an injury of some kind. Thomas is a total unknown; he could be the next Brandon Marshall or Chad Jackson. I guess with three wideouts in the first seven picks I’d rather have more sure things.
I would assume they would take another WR in their next round b/c all three WRs that they have now have/are injuried. Taking a vet would make the most sense to me. Good Luck!
WR is definitely the way to go. They can’t go too old as the top 2 are already 29. I would say there are a few young guys out there still with a lot of upside that can fill the void until Welker returns (I assume he comes back after their bye, and assume he will then become the steal of this draft since he is a ppr stud) and if/when Boldin is nicked up a little and out.
I appreciate you updating this with who each team picked and the trades, this is being posted on rotoworld and ffxtreme but this is the most indepth.
I disagree on your WR’s though. Edelman needs to be on your radar ASAP so Welker doesn’t burn you, Boldin is always hurt, and honestly why not take the risk, trade back and land Hakeem Nicks? He’s only going up from this point, and I honestly don’t see Boldin out producing him by at least a tier at seasons end. Not only that, but after this season how many elite seasons does Boldin have left? Nicks has 7 at minimum and he’s a budding star.
Being dynasty I don’t mind taking risk on up and comers instead of older injured vets like Welker and Boldin. Nothing wrong with risking Thomas so soon, it’s a dynasty and you have to take those kind of risk to hit it big, if he ends up a WR1 it’s a steal for your team so I’ll take those risk all day.
I just really didn’t like Boldin over Nicks, especially considering I would of taken advantage of that as a prime position to trade back and recoup some of the picks you traded being aggressive earlier, find some trde back spots and you will make out even in some sense.
I also liked your trades, but I found out in doing alot of inaugural(sp?) dynasty drafts people don’t mind giving up future 1st rounders, I’d be trying to finish this thing with 3-4….Next year is a stocked draft, if you can find a way to move down here and there, gamble on some youth who may end up elite very soon, it would be worth it.
I agree with the dude about some of the people overlooking age, Randy Moss over Desean Jackson? And these guys are the experts? Desean will give you the same production as Moss next year, and the Moss owner will be trying to draft a replacement as soon as 2011. I want my core of my dynasty to be in tact for at least 5 years with strong production, so any rookie picks the next future years are extra, as soon as you start trying to rely on rookie picks to step in for your team asap you end up in the cellar of these type of leagues.
Yeah to be honest I dont really like the Boldin pick at all. Players like Anquan will literally fall off a cliff production wise in a few years. I would also rather have the youth and upside of a Hakeem Nicks. Overall I think alot of these guys are really under rating youth and upside in general. In my opinion alot of these “experts” are really dropping the ball with this draft.
I think what a lot of the experts are trying to do is win now, and it is a smart startegy for some.
In terms of Moss over Desean Jackson, many people feel that Jackson’s production will go down this year and last year was his high point. Not saying I agree or disagree with tha but their is some thoguht behind these picks.
I think getting Reggie Bush, McFadden and Lynch where you did was genius. They all fell that far for obvious reasons, but also still have potential to break out eventually – if just one of them does, great! And if they tease, they will always be good for trade fodder.
You’re right about holding off on a QB – Rodgers is an automatic start 16 weeks – you can always find a capable backup in a 12 team league.
-oo-
I really like grabbing Aaron Rodgers and stocking up on high end RB talent. Getting a top 5 TE is key as well.
The only position I don’t like yet is WR for you guys. I would have taken Nicks over Boldin for sure. Taking the chance on Welker isn’t bad, though perhaps a tad early. If he bounces back it’s great value though. The other WR picks I like alright.
I know who I’d start looking at next at WR, but I don’t want to give anything away to any “spies” should they be lurking.
I like your team overall though. Well done.
On the WRs, there was a lot of talk about Nicks, but after doing what we did, we need established veteran presence in the form of guaranteed touches and points. The WR position is the easiest to add after the draft, either via trade, free agency or careful waiver wire priority use. Nicks has a chance to be a great player, but we just couldn’t start our WR additions with too much risk. Demaryius Thomas is a nice young player but unproven, Britt looks the part but is young and unproven, Welker is a stud but coming off of injury. WRs like Boldin and Housh secure our WRs and with our RBs and QBs, we have the ability to work on our WRs over the next couple of years. Aging WRs that still score well in this system always fall and are always available from rebuilding teams.
I like how your team ended up. You’ll need a back up TE at some point. But, you have a solid team from top to bottom. And, you have enough youth at all positions to remain competitive in both the short and long term.
Well done.
You guys should have email notifications sent when replies are made on here.
Jeff,
I agree with your point on the WR’s, makes sense, I guess I just don’t agree with some of the choices made.
Back to Nicks/Boldin for that first pick.
Nicks posted nearly 800 yards, 6 TD’s, 47 catches as a rookie, keep in mind he was sharing that role with Smith and Manningham so he wasn’t truly “the guy” like they’ll let him be next season. Is it really that hard to estimate 1200 yards and double digit TD’s? I don’t think so, and when he reaches that type of production you’ll probably wish you had just taken him and secured your WR position for alot longer, he’s not as big of a risk as it may seem.
Funny thing is Boldin started in more games and only had 4 TD’s, with 1000 yards, that’s not even taking into consideration the age gap between the two, and how Boldin is hurt nearly every single season. Your almost taking just as big of a risk with Boldin there and being a dynasty you need to replace that production through trade or the draft which is right back to the crap shoot.
Welker is an ok gamble, but I’m sure you guys know how long it takes to get back to 100%, longer then a year at times. Edelman jumped right in and did just as well as a rookie so they’ll want to get younger eventually, so I don’t know how many more elite seasons he has left.
Now with Housh I just didn’t understand at all.
He hasn’t cracked 1000 yards in the past 2 seasons, he totaled 7 TD’s the past 2 years combined, and yet a year older and slower, what about that makes it sound so secure to you guys? I guess it’s just a difference of opinion, I’m looking at high upside picks like Steve Breaston who is going to beat that production as a #2 beside Fitz, or Mike Williams from Tampa Bay, who while he’s a rookie could become a star studded #1 WR who Tampa is in love with already.
What upside does Housh give you? You can get guys like him anywhere, Patrick Crayton, James Jones, no difference, but I’m not taking a guy with a cap of 900 yards and 3 scores over rolling the dice on a Mike Williams who could be a force to your WR core. If your ever forced to start Housh your probably in trouble I’d suspect.
Again, I agree with your explanation, but that’s why there are 12 owners in the league, people see things differently. I just did a few dynasties the first year, and too quick I see guys getting old, passing up young talent in favor of guys who are well past their prime. I’d rather just stock up on young, developing, rookies, guys like Austin and Rice a year or 2 ago, and stash them, vs play it safe with old vets.
I definately still think you’ve put yourself in a good position to be competitive and I thank you guys for updating this so in depth, it’s a big help and a great read.
i really cant believe that charles went that high. i dont think i would take him until at least the third round. i think that team set themselves back big time. i dont even think pure upside puts him that high.
Erik Coleman should be your next pick
Did someone say DeSean Jackson reached his high point last season? After 62 catches? In a passing offense? Going into his third season? Young and not yet reached his prime? Hasn’t fully learned the west coast offense yet? Yeah good analysis.
Wow, fantasy sharks have assembled a great team! 3 Nice QBs, lotta youth, some sleepers. Loving it!
How did Derrick Morgan and Sean Weatherspoon both go undrafted in a 40 round dynasty draft???
They were actually both taken in the draft. The full rosters aren’t listed, just click the link at the top of the article and you’ll find the entire draft.
Thanks!
