After 2023’s theatrics, expectations were sky high for the Dallas offense in 2024. Dak Prescott finished as a top-five QB in many fantasy football formats the year prior and the offensive situation was fairly stable, with the big losses being from the running back room. Few could have forecasted the struggles that would follow.
Even before Prescott was lost for the year, the offense as a whole was scuffling. It was far too reliant on CeeDee Lamb to make plays, and a middling running game did little to elevate the unit. Fortunately, the Cowboys recognized they needed to add more juice this off-season. They invested a first-round selection in guard Tyler Booker, a physical blocker who should help carve out an identity along the offensive line. After mostly avoiding skill position talent in the draft, Dallas made a big move to land George Pickens via trade. The added talent should help Prescott return to posting big passing numbers, and while his days of doing damage with his legs are in the past, he is a nice value at QB18 and could be a high-volume passer given the lack of talent in Dallas’ backfield.
Rico Dowdle did an admirable job filling in as a lead back last year, though the Cowboys did not seem to have much interest in bringing him back. His modest one-year deal for less than three million with the Panthers indicates the NFL views him as more of a backup or committee back. Instead of swinging big at the position, Dallas worked around the margins. Former dynasty darling Javonte Williams was brought in on a one-year deal, as was Panthers free agent bust Miles Sanders. The team invested two late-round picks in Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah as well. Williams figures to lead this team in touches, with his pass-blocking prowess helping him earn plenty of snaps. Blue should have big moments given his explosiveness and receiving ability, though his lack of reliability could create fantasy frustration. Sanders may well be cooked and Mafah has his work cut out for him to make the roster as someone selected in the seventh round. This figures to be a mess of a committee with none of the backs really establishing significant value.
