Ronald Jones makes roster · Aug 30, 2022
Chiefs running back Ronald Jones has made the 53-player roster
Jones was a will-he, won't-he, candidate to make the roster due to the rise of rookie Isiah Pacheco but, in the end, will see at least one season with the team. It's unclear how the team will distribute touches in the backfield though Clyde Edwards-Helaire, now in his third season, figures to still be the top option. Jones will garner a few early-down touches but doesn't expect factor enough to be rostered at this juncture in all but the deepest of deep-roster leagues. He's found as DLF's RB57 but should continue to slip until he finds a greater upside role.
Ronald Jones sees action · Aug 26, 2022
Chiefs running back Ronald Jones rushed for 43 yards on eight carries
Jones did little to separate himself from rookie Isiah Pacheco during the Chiefs final preseason game but whether he did enough to remain on the roster remains to be seen as cutdown approaches. There's been speculation that Jones, now 25, is on the roster bubble and could be cut or traded in favor of Pacheco. In any case, the veteran is certain to find a new team quickly if sent packing. While Pacheco is the desired dynasty asset, Jones still deserves a roster spot in deeper dynasty leagues. He's listed as DLF's RB54.
Ronald Jones no roster lock · Aug 11, 2022
Speculation continues to mount indicating Ronald Jones is no lock to make the Chiefs roster.
Isiah Pacheco has continued to push Jones in camp and it seems he's destined to carve out a role in the offense. As for Jones, he hasn't been nearly as impressive thus far and the veteran running back could be deemed as expendable by the Chiefs. There's a long way to go before roster cuts and there's no real reason to panic here. However, Jones' ranking of RB51 may be too high at this point as he looks to have no chance of taking over as the starter.
Ronald Jones could be cut · Jul 21, 2022
Chiefs running back Ronald Jones was left off a recent 53-man roster projection
With training camps not open until next week, it remains guesswork of course, but the exclusion of Jones is an eye opener given recent reports suggesting he could end up starting over Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The premise for cutting Jones is in the prediction that he doesn't have a flexible enough skillset as only an early-down option to warrant keeping. In fact, late round rookie Isiah Pacheco is listed as third on the depth chart given his special teams potential. The move would obviously would be a boost for Edwards-Helaire.
Ronald Jones could win job · Jul 8, 2022
Chiefs running back Ronald Jones could win the early-down role with an "exceptional camp."
The concern has been on the minds of coaches possessing Clyde Edwards-Helaire though there has been optimism that 2022 is finally the year the third-year back is able to stay healthy and produce to expectations. Jones has never been a passing-down option and his off-season acquisition by the team was a clear indication that the have little confidence in CEH's ability to remain on the field. Jones has been an effective early-down option over his four years with Tampa Bay, producing 2,174 yards and 18 touchdowns across 488 carries, good for 4.5 ypc. but lacks dynamic to be a significant upside option. That said, should Ronald Jones win the starting role in the prolific offense, there's unquestionable upside from his current RB51 status on DLF's running back rankings.
