The New Orleans Saints drafted Fresno State quarterback Jake Haener on the third day of the NFL Draft.
Haener started his career at the University of Washington, then transferred to Fresno State where found a ton of success. Haener is far from a perfect prospect but he's going into a good situation. The Saints are married to Derek Carr at the moment but Haener could work his way into the starting job in a few years should he continue to develop.

In a piece surveying NFL scouts, execs and coaches, Jake Haener was listed as the QB6 in the 2023 NFL Draft class.
Hendon Hooker has been a fast-track riser and could now be a first round selection as the QB5. Haener has been rising as well since the NFL Combine and the recently-turned 24-year-old has drawn comps to Drew Brees, primarily due to size. It may be a tall order for Haener to live up to that comp but given the need at the position league wide, he could hear his name called earlier than otherwise would have been expected, perhaps as early as round three. He's listed as DLF's QB7 on DLF's rookie quarterback rankings.

In a "Combine buzz" piece on ESPN, some scouts were impressed with Fresno State rookie quarterback Jake Haener.
Haener was trapped behind the arms and lights of C.J. Stroud, Will Levis and Anthony Richardson but quietly had a very good Combine. Undersized at 6'1/200 lbs., he displayed a live arm and impressed in interviews. He'll be on the day-two, day-three watch during the NFL Draft. He's listed as DLF's superflex QB7.
