Jason Jones News

  • Sam Howell traded to Seattle · Mar 15, 2024

The Seahawks have acquired quarterback Sam Howell from the Commanders.

Seattle gets Howell, a fourth-round draft pick and a sixth-rounder in exchange for picks in the third and fifth rounds. It seems like a reasonable price for a capable quarterback who showed flashes of promise last year. Still, the Seahawks quickly came out and said Howell was simply signed to replace Drew Lock and not Geno Smith. Howell threw for 3,946 yards and 21 touchdowns last season, but also threw 21 interceptions and was sacked relentlessly. If Smith fails to impress this year, we could see Howell on the field. Regardless, he isn't worthy of a roster spot at the moment unless you're in a superflex format.

  • CJ Stroud wins OROY · Feb 9, 2024

Texans quarterback CJ Stroud was named the AP's Offensive Rookie of the Year.

No surprise here as Stroud put Houston on his back and led them into the playoffs, despite what was perceived as one of the NFL's worst rosters. After being passed up by the Panthers, Stroud was simply electric this season, throwing for 4,108 yards and boasting the league's best TD:INT ratio with a 23:5 mark. Just 22, Stroud is an easy QB1 to build around in dynasty leagues moving forward and the best is yet to come.

  • CJ Stroud's rookie season ends · Jan 21, 2024

Texans quarterback CJ Stroud completed 19-of-33 passes for 175 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in Houston's playoff loss to Baltimore.

In the end, the Ravens defense was just too much for Stroud to overcome. This ends a rookie season for the ages as Stroud carved up the NFL with 4,108 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions in 15 games. With a young nucleus including Nico Collins and Tank Dell at receiver, the sky seems to be the limit for Stroud. He'll enter this off-season as a clear-cut QB1 to build around in dynasty leagues.

  • CJ Stroud continues domination · Jan 14, 2024

Texans rookie CJ Stroud completed 16-of-21 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns in Houston's playoff rout of the Browns.

What's even more impressive is the fact nearly all of that damage came in the first half. The Texans returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the game and Houston simply milked the clock for most of the second half. Stroud was surgical in this one and has gone from solid rookie to likely Offensive Rookie of the Year to elite QB1 in dynasty leagues over the span of the past four months. To say he's been impressive is a massive understatement and he has a legitimate shot to enter next year's draft as a top-5 dynasty quarterback. Enjoy the ride as the Texans look like a team that's going to be tough to contend with for years to come.

  • Sam Howell gets benched · Dec 25, 2023

Commanders quarterback Sam Howell completed 6-of-22 passes for 56 yards with two interceptions before being benched in a loss against the Jets.

Howell was dreadful against New York and was eventually replaced by Jacoby Brissett, who performed well in his place. This is a big development in dynasty leagues as it had appeared Howell had wrapped up the long-term job in Washington with an otherwise solid season. While this could be just a blip on the radar, we'll need to see what happens the rest of the year before truly determining what kind of value Howell is going to have over the off-season.

  • C.J. Stroud has a concussion · Dec 11, 2023

C.J. Stroud exited week 14 due to a concussion.

Before entering the protocol, the rookie threw for 91 yards on 10-of-23 passing, struggling mightily. The Jets swarming defense controlled the game while Zach Wilson turned in his best performance as a professional, all making for a very forgettable week for the Texans, who continue to be in the hunt for a playoff spot. As for Stroud, the odds-on favorite for rookie of the year is no certainty to be cleared for his week-15 tilt with the Titans in Tennessee. Stroud is found as a rising QB8 on DLF's quarterback rankings.

  • Taysom Hill cheats again · Dec 3, 2023

Saints "tight end" Taysom Hill had 59 rushing yards, two catches, 15 receiving yards, and one touchdown in the Saints loss to Detroit.

He also threw two passes and failed to complete a pass. The human cheat code, Hill is a huge part of the game plan for New Orleans, especially in the red zone. While there are obvious "feast or famine" risks with Hill on a weekly basis, few players have the weekly ceiling Hill does and dynasty managers won't complain. His ranking won't rise much because of his age but he's an incredible contending team target and weapon.

  • C.J. Stroud has arrived · Nov 13, 2023

C.J. Stroud has entered MVP consideration following the Texans victory over the Bengals in week 10

It's a feel-good story for the NFL, Stroud and the Texans as the rookie has now cemented himself as the team's new face of the franchise. On the day, Stroud threw for 356 yards and a single touchdown but also ran for another touchdown. His only mistake was an uncharacteristic bad interception which both he and the team were able to shake off. The rookie was selected after Bryce Young (CAR) during the 2023 NFL Draft but has clearly been the top performer. With prototypical size and laser-like accuracy, C.J. Stroud looks like a budding superstar. He's listed as DLF's QB10 and is on the rise.

  • Sam Howell solid again · Nov 13, 2023

Sam Howell completed 29-of-44 passes for 312 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in a loss at Seattle.

Say what you will about the Commanders but Sam Howell is turning into very consistent fantasy quarterback. After throwing for 312 yards and three more touchdowns, Howell now has six “Boom” games this year and only two true “Busts” on his resume. It may not be pretty all the time for this team but he’s an easy trade target for teams in need of a quarterback and more interested in numbers than names. Howell is the QB28 at the moment but that should move up a notch or two this week.

  • Taysom Hill a cheat code · Nov 6, 2023

Saints tight end Taysom Hill had 52 rushing yards, four catches. 13 receiving yards, three passing yards, and two total touchdowns in a win against Chicago.

Hill is again emerging as fantasy's great cheat code as the "tight end" did a little bit of everything for the Saints on Sunday. New Orleans is seemingly getting more and more comfortable using Hill in a variety of ways and it's working out for them as well as fantasy managers. Hill's value is tough to really quantify as he really only works in goal line packages and is also 33 years old. Still, he looks like a player who is going to help decide a lot of fantasy leagues again this season.
