The Atlanta Falcons depth chart should look very familiar, because it’s basically the same as it was last season. The biggest difference comes at the very top of the board. Michael Penix Jr will be the team’s starting quarterback this season, while Kirk Cousins is demoted to extremely well-paid backup. We didn’t get to see very much from Penix last season. He was the backup to Cousins all the way through week 15, and then played the final three weeks of the season. Over those final three games, he was the QB24 in fantasy points per game, averaging just 15.2 a week. This year, he’ll get a full off-season to prepare to start, and he has good weaponry around him. He should be considered a low-end QB2 in dynasty leagues; the DLF Expert Rankings have him at QB23.
Drake London, Darnell Mooney and Kyle Pitts will be the three main pass-catchers in this offense, with Ray-Ray McCloud mixing in for some boom games at times. Mooney was likely a waiver wire addition last season, and finished the season as a viable WR3 at 31st overall (higher than DK Metcalf, Xavier Worthy, Josh Downs, Khalil Shakir and Cooper Kupp, just to name a few). Despite the breakout, he is still very affordable in dynasty leagues. In the two games he played with Penix last year, he totalled 18.9 PPR points. Pitts is once again earning some hype in fantasy circles. The optimism has to be a factor in his decreased price in fantasy. He’s finally fallen outside of the top 100 picks and he’s going off the board as the TE11 in DLF ADP. He’s impossible to trust, but there’s hope that Penix can turn his career around. At least at this price, another floor season won’t be as devastating as it was when he was a top 50 pick.
Wrapping up the Falcons offense with the running game, Bijan Robinson is a monster and should be in the RB1 for every dynasty analyst. He’s only 23 years old, he has two top-ten finishes at the position, and seems like a lock to finish top five at the position for years and years to come. Tyler Allgeier should really only be rostered in deep leagues as a handcuff.
