Cam Newton's future undetermined

Panthers GM Marty Hurney shed no light on Newton's future as a Panther, refusing to answer questions after saying "He's rehabbing, that's all I can say."

Dynasty Analysis

Newton, himself, is saying all the right things and appears desirous and excited for returning to the starting role in 2020. Still rehabbing from foot surgery that ended his 2019 season soon after it began, Cam and the Panthers were forced to watch as Kyle Allen started hot but faded down the stretch and Will Grier showed little to inspire confidence. Owner David Tepper has said focus remains on avoiding "long-term mediocrity" but didn't specifically mention Newton. The path of least resistance may be in releasing or trading Newton as he's entering the final year of his contract and the team could save $19M in cap space through either move. The Panthers also hold the seventh overall selection in the NFL Draft, likely high enough to secure one of the top three rookie names at the position. As long as he is healthy, Cam Newton, DLF's QB17, will be under center again somewhere in 2020 and remains a risk-on value acquisition in dynasty.
