Dynasty Fantasy Football Player News
Former Vikings wide receiver KJ Osborn has signed with the New England Patriots.
Dynasty Analysis
The Patriots put on a full court press for Calvin Ridley but ended up seeing him sign with the Titans instead. Left to scramble for what was left in free agency, they secured Osborn on a one-year deal. It's a sneaky good signing for New England who get a receiver who has shown flashes of brilliance. With a depth chart that's far from solidified, Osborn's value should increase with the move.
(Source: ESPN)Justin Fields traded to Pittsburgh
FollowThe Chicago Bears have traded Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a conditional draft choice.
Dynasty Analysis
The conditional sixth round pick could become a fourth round pick depending on just how much time Fields get on the, well, field. Pittsburgh entered the week with Kenny Pickett as their starter and ended the week with Russell Wilson playing on a minimum contract and Fields as his backup for what amounts to pocket change. When you consider what the Steelers got back from the Eagles for Pickett, it looks like highway robbery. Regardless, Fields should slot in as Wilson's backup and be ready to take over should Russ fail to cook next season. Wilson is also on a one year deal so the Steelers will take 2023 to heavily evaluate both players. As for his dynasty value, this is tragic for Fields. He's still roster worthy but he's also likely going to be just taking up a roster spot for some time now.
(Source: CBS Sports)Jimmy Garoppolo signs with the Rams
FollowThe Rams have signed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a one-year deal.
Dynasty Analysis
No word yet if Garoppolo is willing to play nose tackle and replace the newly retired Aaron Donald but we assume he's being signed to back up Matthew Stafford. Garoppolo struggled in his only season with the Raiders, throwing for 1,209 yards, with seven touchdowns, and nine interceptions. The Rams will use him as an insurance policy for Stafford and having a capable quarterback as your backup is never bad thing. Still, Garoppolo's dynasty value is in the tank and he has no business being on a roster at this point. It's unfortunate he could never stay healthy and produce because it took a good four years to learn how to spell Garoppolo.
(Source: NBC Sports)Michael Gallup released
FollowThe Cowboys have released wide receiver Michael Gallup.
Dynasty Analysis
Dallas attempted to find a trade partner for Gallup but couldn't find anyone willing to give up a late-round pick. It's not as if Gallup doesn't have trade value - the problem for the Cowboys is everyone knew they were going to release him if they didn't find him a home anyway. He'll enter free agency for the first time in his career and look to show he can still play after struggling to return to form after his ACL tear. Gallup is still roster worthy for the moment but we'll need to see where he ends up to really assess his value.
(Source: NFL.com)Kenny Pickett traded to Philadelphia
FollowThe Steelers have traded quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dynasty Analysis
And that ends the shortest "quarterback competition" in Pittsburgh history. The Steelers will receive a 2024 third round pick (No. 98) and two 2025 seventh round picks in exchange for Pickett and a 2024 fourth round pick (No. 120). There was talk this off-season indicating the Steelers were willing to give Pickett a second chance at the starting job but even after locking up Russell Wilson for just one season, they decided to throw in the (terrible) towel. Pickett will back up Jalen Hurts and be one injury away from relevance. However, he's going to be tough to use a roster spot on in a non-superflex format this upcoming season and his ranking is going to plummet now. At least we know who the Phlilly fans will be chanting for if Hurts struggles for more than one series.
(Source: ESPN)Marquise Brown signs with the Chiefs
FollowThe Chiefs have signed wide receiver Marquise Brown to a one-year deal.
Dynasty Analysis
Brown gets a one-year deal worth up to $11 million. It's a very fun signing for dynasty managers as the thought of.a true field stretcher being added to Patrick Mahomes and the offense of the reigning champions is certainly exciting. However, expectations should be tempered a bit as Kansas City is employing a more conservative attack as they've build their defense. Brown is also going to be fighting for targets with Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce moving forward. Brown is a candidate to be overdrafted but should be able to post WR2 numbers next season now that he has a golden opportunity ahead of him.
(Source: NFL.com)Keenan Allen traded to Chicago
FollowThe Chargers have traded wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Bears in exchange for a fourth round pick.
Dynasty Analysis
The cash-strapped Chargers have already released Mike Williams and now Allen is on the move. The ridiculously consistent receiver now joins the likes of DJ Moore, Cole Kmet and D'Andre Swift in a totally re-worked offense. Allen has a whopping 904 career catches, good for 26th all-time. He also has a total of five different 100-catch seasons. While his numbers are bound to dip a bit with a likely rookie quarterback (Caleb Williams, anyone), he should provide WR2 value at worst based on volume alone.
(Source: ESPN)Corey Davis reinstated
FollowThe Jets have released wide receiver Corey Davis off their retired / reserve list, clearing the way for a comeback.
Dynasty Analysis
The move is procedural and allows Davis to sign with any team. The Jets seem to be the most logical fit here, though. Still just 29, he could provide some much-needed veteran leadership on whatever team he signs on with. While he'll never reach the lofty expectations dynasty managers had when he was the 5th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, he could still prove to be roster worthy in the end. Stay tuned.
(Source: ESPN)The Packers have re-signed running back AJ Dillon.
Dynasty Analysis
Dillon was rumored to be on the Cowboys radar but he decided to keep things close to home and stay with Green Bay. It's not great for his fantasy value as Josh Jacobs was signed to be the workhorse earlier in the week. Even if Jacobs was to get hurt, Dillon just hasn't shown a lot in recent years and doesn't look like anything but insurance at this point. While still roster worthy in most leagues, the dreams of Dillon ever becoming a featured back have long since faded.
(Source: NBC Sports)Curtis Samuel signs with Buffalo
FollowThe Buffalo Bills have signed wide receiver Curtis Samuel.
Dynasty Analysis
The three-year, $24 million deal is worth up to $30 million, including $15 million guaranteed. It's a solid get for the Bills, who lost Gabe Davis earlier in free agency. Samuel has had his moments both rushing and receiving in his time with Carolina and Washington but never really become the dual threat many had hoped for. Still, this looks like a good landing spot for him and his dynasty ADP and ranking should stay stable as a result. Should Stefon Diggs be moved, this could actually get fun.
