Cardinals running back Trey Benson will remain a backup following the contract extension for James Conner.
Dynasty Analysis
Many thought Benson would slide into the starter's role next year with Conner hitting free agency, but it seems the Cardinals had other plans. It's a significant development as Benson looks like no more than a handcuff for at least one more season and perhaps longer. He's been effective in stretches this season, but is being out-touched nearly 3:1 by Conner on the year and much of his work has come in games that have already been decided one way or another. His dynasty value is going to slide into "buy low" territory into the off-season now.

Cardinals rookie running back Trey Benson had ten rushing yards on 11 carries in Arizona's blowout win against the Rams.
Dynasty Analysis
Benson is playing a distant second behind James Conner (124 total yards and a touchdown on 22 touches today) and not doing much with the opportunities he's been given thus far. At this point, Conner (4.6 yards per carry and two scores) is simply outplaying Benson (1.7 yards per carry and no scores), making Benson simply a handcuff moving forward. This could open a solid "buy low" opportunity for dynasty managers but Benson has been relatively ineffective so far in his career and needs a big performance here soon.
Cardinals rookie running back Trey Benson had 13 rushing yards in his NFL debut.
Dynasty Analysis
Benson added one catch for five yards on the day. Most concerning to Benson dynasty managers is the fact James Conner had 19 touches on the day, cementing the notion Benson is little more than a change-of-pace option at the moment. Conner (83 total yards and a touchdown) was effective on the day and that means early expectations for Benson should be tempered. Still, he's a valuable short-term handcuff and very nice dynasty hold for managers who can exhibit some patience.
Cardinals rookie Trey Benson ran for 43 yards on nine carries in the Cardinals preseason loss to the Colts.
Dynasty Analysis
it's been a relatively quiet preseason for Benson, though he looked a bit better in this one. Still, he's done little to unseat James Conner and is looking like a clear handcuff and backup at the moment. A solid second round rookie pick, Benson is going to need an injury or some ineffectiveness from Conner to carve out a meaningful role early it seems.
