The Panthers have signed running back Rico Dowdle.
Dynasty Analysis
#buzzkill. Dowdle was great for the Cowboys last season, posting his first ever 1,000-yard season in the process. Dallas left him out in free agency and have now lost him to Carolina. He'll project as the backup to Chuba Hubbard but will be seen by the Panthers as a very clear backup or change of pace option to Hubbard, who had an amazing 2024 campaign. This is going to be a signing that is way better in reality than fantasy as Dowdle's value and ADP is going to tank hard as he's accepted a backup job instead of choosing to go somewhere that could have given him a chance to start.

Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle had 104 rushing yards in a loss to the Eagles.
Dynasty Analysis
Dallas has been widely connected to running backs (notably Ashton Jeanty) in the upcoming NFL Draft, but Dowdle may be giving them some pause as he now has posted over 100 rushing yards in four of his last five games and passed 1,000 for the season with his effort today. Simply put, he's been solid ever since the Cowboys decided to make him their featured back. His dynasty value will be in flux until the NFL Draft and free agency are done.
Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle had 149 rushing yards in a win against Carolina.
Dynasty Analysis
Since finally getting the chance to be the Cowboys lead back, Dowdle has posted three consecutive career high days with 112, 131, and 149 rushing yards the past three weeks. While Dallas could easily replace him next season, it's clear he's giving them a lot of reasons to think otherwise. Now seemingly destined to hit 1,000 yards on the season, Dowdle is a very interesting hold in dynasty leagues.
Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle had 112 rushing yards, three catches, 11 receiving yards, and a touchdown in a Dallas win over the Giants on Thanksgiving.
Dynasty Analysis
Dowdle had 22 running back carries in the game, compared to just one for Ezekiel Elliott. It was a career day for the 26-year old, who has been nearly begging to have a day where they committed to giving him the ball. It may be too little, too late for Dowdle, who is likely to be replaced as the lead back next season. However, Dallas may simply ride him the rest of the way, giving him some very nice in-season value moving forward. Dowdle is a solid hold until the season is over.
Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle had 86 rushing yards, three catches and 12 receiving yards in a win against Washington.
Dynasty Analysis
Most importantly, Dowdle had 22 touches compared to just three for Ezekiel Elliott. It seems Dallas is finally ready to let Dowdle be the primary running back, but that may not mean much moving forward since the Cowboys are mired in a miserable season. Still, Dowdle could be a good flex player or RB2 moving forward should they continue to feature him. Unfortunately, his dynasty value likely won't rise much this year unless he really dominates over the next couple of months since it seems Dallas will likely replace him next season.
Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle had 75 rushing yards, five catches, 32 receiving yards and a touchdown in a loss against Atlanta.
Dynasty Analysis
Dowdle has been solid all season, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. However, Dallas has just failed to commit to the running game much at all this season. With Dak Prescott dealing with a hamstring injury that's going to result in an MRI, they may not have that luxury much longer. Dowdle could be set for a bigger workload moving forward, but he still belongs on benches in most leagues until we see some consistency. Regardless, his touchdown catch today was a major highlight on an otherwise dreary day for Dallas.
Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle had 87 rushing yards, two catches, 27 receiving yards, and a touchdown in a win against the Steelers.
Dynasty Analysis
After beginning the season in a rotation with Ezekiel Elliott, Dowdle has now taken over the backfield in Dallas. He had 22 touches this week compared to just six for Elliott. While his production has been far from dominant, his workload merits him to be in consideration each week. The Cowboys could still bring up Dalvin Cook but it seems Dowdle is going to finally get a chance to earn the job. He's a solid hold in dynasty leagues.
