As a high school senior, McMillan totaled 88 receptions for 1,302 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns, eading him to be a finalist for the Gatorade Football Player of the Year and receive an invite to the High School All-American Bowl. Rated as a four-star prospect and the fourth receiver overall in the nation on 247 sports, he originally committed to Oregon but later flipped his decision and joined the Arizona Wildcats.
McMillan arrived and totaled 702 receiving yards as a freshman with eight receiving touchdowns. He led all true freshmen receivers with his receiving totals. In his first collegiate game against San Diego State, he caught three receptions for 53 yards with a touchdown. He built on his freshman season success with a breakout sophomore season where he had 90 receptions for 1,402 receiving yards and ten touchdowns. He finished the 2023 season with the fifth-most receiving yards in the nation. At the end of the season, he was named to the third-team AP All-American team and in the Alamo Bowl against Oklahoma, he had ten receptions for 160 receiving yards.
