Draft Status: Round One, pick 22

Hampton arrived at Chapel Hill in 2022 after playing in nearby Cleveland High School in Clayton North Carolina. He was the RB11 in the 2022 recruiting class and seen as a four-star recruit. From that recruiting class only Nick Singleton has become a household name.

Hampton took off in 2023, playing in an offense that featured Patriots QB Drake Maye. As a sophomore and junior while playing for the Tar Heels he went over 1,500 rushing yards in each season and had 15 rushing touchdowns each year. In 2024 as a junior, Hampton excelled and went over 100 rushing yards in all but two games.
