Monday Mocks: 2025 Landing Spots

Ryan McDowell

Welcome to Monday Mocks, where I’ll bring you…you guessed it, a new mock draft every Monday during the off-season. In my opinion, drafting is the best part of fantasy football, so I do as much of that as I can. This series will be filled with all types of mocks. We’ll draft startups, rookies, devys, and more.

The countdown continues as we are now less than two weeks away from the 2025 NFL Draft. Much of the analysis throughout the past several months has been focused on individual players. As most would admit though, two of the most crucial data points in studying and projecting the outlook for these players comes on draft weekend – draft capital and landing spot.

Landing spot is a difficult piece to consider as there are so many layers to what makes up a “good” landing spot. Opportunity is obviously important, so a crowded depth chart would be imposing. The quality of the overall team and offense matters as well. Of course, landing spots will ultimately be revealed in ten days, but we should all be prepared for what happens that weekend. One way to do that is to identify the ideal landing spots for the players we are hoping to acquire in rookie drafts.

In this mock, I “drafted” the landing spots that could be most beneficial for the players we care about. Whether your NFL Draft weekend is focused on Ashton Jeanty, Tetairoa McMillan, or Cam Ward, these are the landing spots that could give incoming rookies a value boost come superflex dynasty rookie drafts.

ROUND ONE:

1.01 Denver Broncos RB

The Broncos were one of the surprise teams of this past season, but it had nothing to do with their running game. After giving Javonte Williams the first shot at the lead role, the Denver backfield developed into a three-headed committee and none of the trio broke through with consistent success. That led to Williams being ushered out of town and Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime to lose nearly all dynasty value. The Broncos have often been projected to use an early pick on one of the many incoming rookie backs and that player will be a fast riser post-draft.

1.02 Chicago Bears RB

Last year in this article, the Bears quarterback position was the top overall landing spot. With the quarterback and wide receiver positions settled after last year’s work, Chicago could turn their attention to improving the backfield. D’Andre Swift was fine last year but the Bears could be in position to land Ashton Jeanty with their first pick. Even a Day-Two back would see a value gain as a result of this landing spot.

1.03 Pittsburgh Steelers RB

Dynasty managers are so excited about this rookie running back class, not only because of the talent, but how many quality, needy teams there are around the league. The Steelers make it three backfields in a row to begin this mock draft. After relying on Najee Harris for the past four years, the team opted to move on, surely hoping for more explosive plays from their backfield. Pittsburgh did retain Jaylen Warren, who has seen a value bump following the departure of Harris, but will never have this backfield to himself.

1.04 Pittsburgh Steelers QB

It’s a Steelers’ run as they also have a glaring need at the quarterback position. The team doubled up last year, adding veterans Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Although that resulted in some success, both players have moved on to new teams, leaving Pittsburgh to chase veteran Aaron Rodgers. Even if the former Packer and Jet lands with the Steelers, they could and should still add a rookie signal caller.

1.05 Green Bay Packers WR

At times over the past year, it seemed like the Packers were loaded at the receiver position, with at least four players being rostered in most dynasty leagues. While they do boast solid depth, the team is clearly lacking a go-to, alpha receiver. There are a few wideouts in this rookie class who could quickly become the top option for Jordan Love and the Pack.

1.06 Buffalo Bills WR

The Bills still haven’t quite figured out the receiver position, but it’s not for a lack of effort. Over the past year, they invested an early pick in Keon Coleman, traded for veteran Amari Cooper, and signed Khalil Shakir to a contract extension. While Shakir and Coleman still have plenty of upside, the Bills haven’t found a replacement for Stefon Diggs as a go-to threat for Josh Allen.

1.07 Dallas Cowboys RB

For many dynasty managers, this landing spot might top the list. There is some kind of odd allure to not only the Cowboys, but specifically their starting running back job. Perhaps it comes from the years of elite production from that spot. Unfortunately, things haven’t been the same since the shine wore off Ezekiel Elliott. Dallas seemingly didn’t even try to re-sign last year’s start Rico Dowdle, instead adding veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. There seems to be some hope for Williams in the dynasty community, but there are a dozen or more rookies that would relegate him to the bench.

1.08 Dallas Cowboys WR

Running back isn’t the only big need in Dallas. There is no real pass-catching threat beyond the elite wideout CeeDee Lamb. Dallas drafted Jalen Tolbert a couple of years ago and surprisingly gave up valuable draft capital for Panthers’ bust Jonathan Mingo last year. Neither can be counted on for reliable production and veteran Brandin Cooks just left to go back to New Orleans. Dallas has often been projected to use their first-round pick on a receiver, potentially Texas product Matthew Golden.

1.09 Cleveland Browns QB

Back to the quarterback position…Cleveland has a major need despite the additions of Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. Despite the latter’s recent comments, the Browns should not feel comfortable with this duo if they have any aspirations of success in 2025. Also, he’s hardly worth mentioning at this point, but Deshaun Watson has likely played his last snap for Cleveland, meaning this team needs a quarterback of the future.

1.10 New York Giants QB

After moving on from former first-round Daniel Jones, the Giants have a need at quarterback. The team has been active this off-season, signing veteran Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, so they could potentially make it through the season with that pair and worry about the long-term quarterback answer next off-season.

1.11 Cleveland Browns RB

Long-time Browns starter Nick Chubb is still a free agent, so the team could opt to bring him back on a cheap contract. Ultimately, there’s little reason to do that given the depth of the rookie running back class. Veteran Jerome Ford should still have a role but has shown he’s not a high-level starting option. This team wants to build their offense around the running game, so any rookie back landing here should see a value bump.

1.12 Jacksonville Jaguars WR

One of my favorite landing spots is the WR2 spot in Jacksonville. The team has cleaned house so far this off-season, dumping veterans and bad contracts after bringing in new head coach Liam Coen. This team has the quarterback and WR1 in place and needs someone to line up across from Brian Thomas in what should be a revamped and exciting Jaguars’ offense.

ROUND TWO:

2.01 Las Vegas Raiders RB

2.02 Tennessee Titans QB

2.03 New Orleans Saints QB

2.04 Los Angeles Chargers RB

2.05 New England Patriots WR

2.06 Los Angeles Chargers TE

2.07 Las Vegas Raiders WR

2.08 Washington Commanders RB

2.09 Carolina Panthers WR

2.10 Denver Broncos WR

2.11 Indianapolis Colts TE

2.12 Arizona Cardinals WR

Other Landing Spots to Track: SEA QB, LAR QB, JAX RB, NE RB, NO RB, NYG RB, CLE WR, NYG WR, NYJ WR, TEN WR, LAR TE, NE TE, NYJ TE, SEA TE
