He completed 60.4% of his passes while throwing for 2260 yards and 24 touchdowns his first year as a starter at Incarnate Word and improved the following year by completing 65.1% of his passes while throwing for 4648 yards and 47 touchdowns according to ESPN season stats. Ward then transferred to Washington State and was productive both years, completing 64.4% of his passes for 3,231 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2022 and completing 66.5% of his passes for 3,735 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2023.
