Dynasty Perspective Through Advanced Metrics: Running Backs

Fantasy football is a game decided by numbers. In this four part series, I’ll be reviewing advanced player metrics via Player Profiler from the 2024 season, to understand the numbers behind the data, outline a contextual story and provide actionable advice in dynasty.
The second article in the series will focus on running back, analyzing metrics to give a true reflection of performance and expectations moving forward. The previous article on quarterback can be found here.
Growing into the role as his rookie season progressed, Irving finished 2024 with solid RB2 usage in both the rushing and receiving game. Displaying efficiency in all aspects of his game, Irving was above average in his rushing yards per carry and receiving yards per target. In the receiving game, Irving was only the RB27 in target share while splitting work with competent pass-catching back Rachaad White, although did have the benefit of the Chris Godwin injury creating a higher opportunity over the second half of the season. Irving was more impressive in the run game, elite at creating yards per touch and solid on a true yards per carry basis. Despite concerns over his long speed, Irving displayed excellent burst as the RB7 in breakaway runs - an impressive feat considering a lower number of running back carries overall.
