Dynasty Trending Observations: Coaching Changes to Help Brian Thomas Jr and Dak Prescott?

There was no football this weekend, but that doesn’t mean social cedia was quiet. Plenty of developments, including the ones below, will impact your dynasty rosters.
This I Thomas You
WR1s under Liam Coen:
🔥 Cooper Kupp (2022): 18.2 fantasy PPG (1st among WR)
🔥 Mike Evans (2024): 14.5 fantasy PPG (8th among WR)
🔥 Brian Thomas Jr. (2025): ??? pic.twitter.com/mFasQRdvnR— Yahoo Fantasy Sports (@YahooFantasy) January 29, 2025
Hoo boy. As if the Brian Thomas Jr hype couldn’t get any bigger, now add a head coach who has a history of elite fantasy wide receivers and it might reach critical mass. For Thomas, adding Liam Coen as the new Jaguars head coach will only help his play, with Coen being not only an offensive coordinator in a previous life but also one that utilized the pass. Couple that with Coen’s comments about using BTJ in the slot and it’s hard not to get excited for Thomas’ sophomore season.
Of course, Thomas didn’t need more hype before next season anyway. He had an incredible stat line for a rookie with 87 receptions for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns and finished as a top-five fantasy receiver. In a class that saw three receivers taken in the first nine picks, Thomas set himself apart from them, which is impressive.
But now that his rookie season is over, can he keep it up? The comments from his new head coach would point to yes but what’s his actual value in your dynasty league?
Dynasty Impact: It’s hard to have a much sharper incline in dynasty value than Thomas did throughout his rookie season.
Thomas Jr finished the season as the sixth-highest-ranked receiver according to ADP data, which actually might be low. If you consider Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson the truly elite options, then you could argue Thomas Jr. could match up with any other receiver, especially considering he’ll be only 22 when next season starts.
When it comes to trade value, Thomas is already worth more than the 1.1 as far as 2025 rookie picks, according to our DLF Trade Analyzer. That sounds right, considering Thomas is already a top-five receiver and this year’s draft class doesn’t come close to matching last year’s. If you’re a rebuilding team with lots of draft capital, consider using it on Thomas.
Burton of Proof

For a third-round pick, Bengals receiver Jermaine Burton was being valued fairly highly throughout his rookie season. It started after being drafted by Cincinnati, a team that was potentially losing its top two receivers, then gained steam after a 4-56-1 stat line in a preseason game against the Colts, eventually clocking in as a top-60 dynasty receiver.
But, for now, it appears that will be the peak of his dynasty value. He never did more on the field than that one pre-season game and just wasn’t progressing off of it. He didn’t see more than 10 snaps until Week Eight and then did so just two more times after that. He was a healthy scratch in multiple games and was even suspended for a game and wasn’t endearing himself to anyone in the organization. On the season, he finished with just four receptions for 107 yards.
His problems got worse in the off-season as he was accused of assault coupled with the quote above and it’s not looking good for Burton’s dynasty prospects.
Dynasty Impact: Burton had red flags coming out of Alabama so it’s a complete surprise that his professional career hasn’t taken off. Still, he sabotaged his own value by his behavior. It’s a tale as old as time in professional sports where an insanely talented player is given one more chance by an organization. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
In Burton’s case, it’s too early to call it a career as surely some NFL team will scoop him up if the Bengals move on. From a dynasty perspective, he’s currently worth a fourth-round rookie pick, according to our DLF Trade Analyzer. I might entertain a trade for Burton at that cost, not so much because of Burton but because this rookie class pales in comparison to last year and others. Your dynasty team can be like the Bengals or whoever signs Burton next and take a flyer on talent.
Dak to the Future
“I’m good with X’s and O’s, but I’m great with people.”- Brian Schottenheimer on what he brings as a HC.

While the rest of the football world was let down by the choice of Brian Schottenheimer to lead the Dallas Cowboys, there’s at least one person who was happy to see it. Quarterback Dak Prescott was in attendance to show his support for the decision which could be great news for Prescott dynasty managers. It was a rough year for that group – and Cowboys fans in general – but the most underwhelming hiring of this coaching cycle could be a blessing in disguise.
2024 was a dud all the way around in Dallas. After winning the division last season, hopes were high that Dallas could make the playoffs again. Those dreams died midway through the season when Dak suffered a season-ending knee injury for the 3-5 Cowboys. Dallas was ok down the stretch but finished just 7-10 and well out of the playoff race. The disappointment lasted into the off-season with a weird standoff between Dallas and previous coach Mike McCarthy that led to McCarthy not re-signing and the Cowboys in need of a new coach. After talk of big names like Deion Sanders or Pete Carroll, they settled on current offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
Dynasty Impact: Schottenheimer has over a decade of experience as a coordinator but nothing that particularly sticks out before arriving in Dallas two seasons ago. His teams finished in the top 10 in yards just once and never in the top-five in points. But something changed when he led the Cowboys in 2023. That offense did finish in the top-five in yards and led the league in points while Dak Prescott finished second in the MVP voting and top-three in fantasy scoring.
So yes, Schottenheimer being named head coach is a positive development for Prescott and makes him a good value right now.
His value is going down thanks to this last injury-marred season but, assuming he’s healthy in 2025, he should be valued higher than this. Start poking around your Prescott managers and see what it would cost, especially in Superflex leagues.
