1QB Dynasty Rankings Explained: Pete Lawrence

Dynasty Rankings Explained is back! In this series DLF rankers explain their dynasty fantasy football rankings, including 2025 rookie draft pick selections so you can see how we each value those dynasty rookie picks compared to players as if it were a dynasty fantasy football startup draft. As expected, you will find a great degree of variability in the valuation of these picks as well depending on the style of the ranker. Each draft class has its own quality and depth and, depending on how the ranker values that quality and depth, individual rookie selections will appear earlier or later on the list.

DLF has always offered our readers multiple sets of dynasty fantasy football rankings from different experts to provide a broad view of player rankings. With many different strategies for building a successful dynasty team, no single set of rankings could possibly meet the needs of every manager. Instead, we've long subscribed to the idea of our experts providing their own individual rankings, ultimately giving our readers the opportunity to gravitate to a particular expert who closely matches their own style of ranking or, perhaps instead, choosing to use an average ranking across all experts.
A note about the tables. The Rank column indicates this ranker's personal rankings. The AVG column indicates the consensus rankings value at the time these rankings were created. The "+/-" column indicates how much higher or lower the ranker is to the consensus average. We'll go 120 players and picks deep, so for a deeper list of rankings, please visit our consensus dynasty fantasy football rankings.
1QB DYNASTY FANTASY FOOTBALL RANKINGS: PETE LAWRENCE
Like many of us fantasy degenerates, if you are reading a fantasy football article in January, it is time to gain the upper hand on our league mates who are likely upset by your continued dominance and shrewd fantasy maneuvering. It is time to shift from win-now to a mindset of win-forever, well at least for the next two or three years. We are quickly approaching the draft season when we convince ourselves that Kyle Pitts and Dawson Knox are about to revolutionize the TE position. Now is the time to capitalize on outliers (does anyone remember # Phillip Lindsay SZN) and deal them off for future draft capital.
Early in my dynasty career, I was an ageist. Yes, it is true. Chasing the highs of draft capital, dominator rating, and size-speed scores I scoured for the next great breakout. Yes, I still love draft picks and draft season, but now I focus on that two-to-three-year window and getting proven talent. John Arrington mentioned it last year; my goal is to find difference-makers at each position and to accumulate them in trades or startups wherever I can. My strategy has a focus on the WR position with the idea that I can trade down, accumulate draft picks, and then move picks for proven talent at the RB position.

Chase and Jefferson are the top tier at the wide receiver position. You can put them down as 1a and 1b. Both have proven to be Quarterback-Proof and have fantastic offenses. Jefferson may or may not have JJ McCarthy at the helm next year if the team moves on from the sensational season Sam Darnold had. Whatever happens, you can feel great with both. CeeDee Lamb is right behind those two and, depending on my day, might be 1c.
The Malik Nabers, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Nico Collins, and Puka Nacua group is a wonderful tier two. However, there are questions about this group. Nabers survived year one in New York, and Nacua is in the twilight years of Stafford’s career. What do the Lions do with Ben Johnson moving to Detroit, and how does that impact Brown and the rest of the team? Nico Collins struggled with injuries but is still playing with CJ Stroud for the foreseeable future.
Now we hit the RB tier of Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Saquon Barkley. Others might not have Barkley this high because of age but I am fine paying this premium with the eyes on the next two, hopefully three, seasons. Robinson and Gibbs sit at 1a and 1b for me with their age. Robinson and the Falcons offense should continue to benefit with Michael Penix at the helm. Gibbs might slide a bit with a healthy David Montgomery and Ben Johnson leaving but that OL will be solid. After that tier of Chase, Jefferson, and Lamb you can confidently draft Gibbs or Robinson.
Brock Bowers is what we all wanted Kyle Pitts to be in year one. The next top-tier TE, one who did it catching passes from a combination of Desmond Ridder, Aidan O’Connell, and Gardner Minshew II. Tom Brady and the Raiders organization likely won’t be heading into 2025 with a QB from that trio leading the team. Expect even more from Bowers. Trey McBride managed to survive the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 during the 2024 season. Look for more touchdowns to McBride in 2025.
The next group is the RBs and the rookie picks. Ashton Jeanty is the 1.01, do not stress the format. It is early but come draft time your league mates will probably see him in that top RB tier. This is a great year for rookie RBs and possibly a few should be selected in rounds one through three. Breece Hall is listed at 25 but he can find a home right in this group. He has not been the generational talent we all had hopes for. Injuries and terrible coaching staff had left us grasping for reasons to keep chasing that high from the end of 2023 when he helped many to a fantasy championship. I might be much higher on James Cook than others, but he has looked great. Josh Allen is always a threat to steal a few TDs, but Cook is just a threat to break off the long run.
