The Dynasty Aftermath: Record Breaking Fantasy Performances

Ken Kelly

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best. Expect it each and every week. I’ve written this column for the past eighteen years (I cannot believe I just typed that) and I love it . I enjoy combing through the stats of the week on Monday night, putting together ridiculous lineups, picking MVPs/LVPs and discussing things to worry about.

That’s not all. I also really love sharing observations, little bits of entertainment or some stories with the community of DLF and picking a theme for this column each week. You really never know what you’re going to get.

We saw a pretty amazing week from Ja’Marr Chase, so I decided to look up the greatest fantasy performances of all-time and this is what I found.

1. Jerry Rice, 49ers, Oct. 14, 1990: 65.5 points (225 total yards, 13 receptions, 5 touchdowns)
2. Jimmy Smith, Jaguars, Sept. 9, 2000: 62.1 points (291 total yards, 15 receptions, 3 touchdowns)
3. Jerry Rice, 49ers, Dec. 18, 1995: 60.9 points (289 total yards, 14 receptions, 3 touchdowns)
4. Jerry Butler, Bills, Sept. 23, 1979: 60.7 points (267 total yards, 10 receptions, 4 touchdowns)
5. Jamaal Charles, Chiefs, Dec. 15, 2013: 59.5 (215 total yards, 8 receptions, 5 touchdowns)
6. Steve Largent, Seahawks, Oct. 18, 1987: 59.1 points (261 total yards, 15 receptions, 3 touchdowns)
7. Tyreek Hill, Chiefs, Nov. 29, 2020: 57.9 points (269 total yards, 13 receptions, 3 touchdowns)
8. Clinton Portis, Broncos, Dec. 7, 2003: 57.4 points (254 total yards, 2 receptions, 5 touchdowns)
9. Alvin Kamara, Saints, Dec. 25, 2020: 56.2 points (172 total yards, 3 receptions, 6 touchdowns)
10. Shaun Alexander, Seahawks, Sept. 29, 2002: 56.1 points (231 total yards, 3 receptions 5 touchdowns)

Those of us who have been around for some time remember a lot of those (that game from Portis was almost 20 years ago!). You also may remember what could have been as well. There was a game where one Priest Holmes scored four times in one half before getting injured. His replacement (Derrick Blaylock) scored four times himself in the second half for the Chiefs. So, yes, it seems possible Holmes could have gone nuclear for more than 200 yards and eight (yes, eight) touchdowns in one game, or a chance for a game with 70 or even 80 points in a game. Oh, well. Some of those performances were simply amazing, however, and we saw one that came close this week.

Let’s do it…

Fantasy MVP of the Week

With his 11 catches, 264 yards and three touchdowns, Ja’Marr Chase posted 55.4 points this week, putting him at #11 on the all-time single game performance list. It was an unbelievable performance from one of only a handful of players who have ever played in the NFL could really ever even pull off. The crazy thing it this may not even be the best game he puts up in his career. Yes, he’s that good. However, we can still say, “He’s a baaaad man, but he still ain’t no Jerry Rice.”

Fantasy LVP of the Week

Tank Bigsby has been one of the biggest surprises of the season thus far. Unfortunately, this week was a disaster as he was only able to post four yards before leaving with an ankle injury. There should be brighter days ahead, but this one hurt anyone who rolled the dice with him this week.

The Unbeatable Lineup of the Week

QB Joe Burrow CIN = 428 passing yards, four total touchdowns

RB Chuba Hubbard CAR = 153 rushing yards, four catches, 16 receiving yards, two touchdowns
RB James Conner ARI = 33 rushing yards, five catches, 80 receiving yards, one touchdown
WR Ja’Marr Chase CIN = 11 catches, 264 receiving yards, three touchdowns
WR Calvin Ridley TEN = Five catches, 84 receiving yards, two touchdowns
WR George Pickens PIT = Five catches, 91 receiving yards, one touchdown
TE Travis Kelce KC = Eight catches, 64 receiving yards, one touchdown

The Underdog Lineup of the Week

QB Russell Wilson PIT = 195 passing yards, three touchdowns, one interception
RB Austin Ekeler WAS = 44 rushing yards, one catch, seven receiving yards, two touchdowns
RB Bucky Irving TB = 73 rushing yards, three catches, 14 receiving yards, one touchdown
RB Tyrone Tracy NYG = 103 rushing yards, one catch, one receiving yard, one bad fumble

WR Tylan Wallace BAL = Three catches, 115 receiving yards, one touchdown

The Disappointing Lineup of the Week

QB Aaron Rodgers NYJ = 151 passing yards

RB Javonte Williams DEN = One rushing yard, two catches, six receiving yards
RB Travis Etienne JAX = 44 rushing yards, one catch, -1 receiving yards

WR Xavier Worthy KC = One catch, 11 receiving yards
WR Brian Thomas Jr  = Two catches, 12 receiving yards
TE Hunter Henry NE = One catch, 14 receiving yards

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I needed vintage Patrick Mahomes at the moment.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the recent production from Terry McLaurin.

I’d be worried if I needed WR1 numbers from CeeDee Lamb.

Ditto on TJ Hockenson.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t noticing some real consistency from Najee Harris.

I’d be worried if I needed anything from Diontae Johnson at the moment.

I’d be worried if I was relying on Jordan Addison.

I’d be worried if I didn’t cash out on Travis Etienne.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t noticing some real progress from Alec Pierce.

I’d be worried if I was counting on DJ Moore.

I’d be worried if I was underestimating George Kittle.

I’d be worried if I overspent on Caleb Williams.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t a little more excited about George Pickens.

I’d be worried if I was relying on JK Dobbins.

I’d be worried if I was concerned about Brian Thomas Jr.

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Chase Brown was going to have a say on who wins my league.

I’d be worried if I was overvaluing DeAndre Hopkins.

I’d be worried if I had given up on Mark Andrews.

I’d be worried if I missed out on Bucky Irving.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t impressed by the season from Joe Mixon.

Dynasty Rookie Rankings

Always check our latest rankings to see the updates throughout the week. These rankings are simply my own.

1.) Thomas Meeks, Reader
This reader has been getting upset every week with me having Marvin Harrison Jr. at #1, so I’m putting him there based on his dedication.

2.) Marvin Harrison Jr WR ARI
He had to move to #2 this week.

3.) Malik Nabers, WR NYG
Dropped to third after a rough week.

4.) Brock Bowers, TE LV
Not too many tight ends I’d rather have, that’s for sure.

5.) Brian Thomas, WR JAX
First time we’ve seen him struggle in a while.

6.) Rome Odunze, WR CHI
I’m really concerned here.

7.) Jayden Daniels, QB WAS
He’s mortal!

8.) Jonathon Brooks, RB CAR
The contract for Hubbard is a major buzzkill in the short and long-term.

9.) Keon Coleman, WR BUF
Improving every week.

10A.) Ladd McConkey, WR LAC
So is he.

10B.) Tyrone Tracy, RB NYG
It’s time for him to be on this list.
